So I finally got around to lightly microwaving the last bit of Skye Botanical African Gold Shea Butter, and a new jar of NOW shea butter I bought recently. The new jar was all dry and crumbly, and was very difficult to insert and apply without making a mess. Which was not my previous experience with this brand. So that was my incentive to try doing this.

I enthusiastically recommend...
If your shea butter consistency doesn't seem right to you. Definitely heat it up lightly, stir, then let it cool completely. The Skye Botanical shea butter completely changed consistency. It went from soft, grainy and slightly tacky, to hard, smooth, and more solid wax like in it's un-melted form. It solidified so hard that I need to use a spoon to dig it out of the container. This made insertion way, way easier. And application on the Aneros slightly easier.

The NOW shea butter just re-solidified into the consistency I was used to. Smooth, holds together, warm wax-like to slightly chilled butter consistency. But still soft enough to use your fingers to remove some from the container.

Both containers for the shea butter were plastic so I opted to microwave them. I have a 1000 watt microwave, so I did 10 to 15 seconds at a time on full power till they melted enough to stir and become smooth. Be careful doing it this way, as I can imagine that it would be really easy to over do it, and possible melt the container, and/or make a mess.

Hello labrat, 🙂

If you want to buy it locally. You can usually find it at a health food store/co-op in the cosmetic section under skin moisturizers. Here in the USA they sell it as a general skin/hand moisturizer.

But you can also find all sorts of places to buy it on the Internet.

The brand I'm using that I like so far is here:
http://nowfoods.com/Products/ProductsbyCategory/Category/M003283.htm?cat=Personal%20Care

If you want to buy it online, just do an Internet search for "now foods shea butter".

There have been a number of guys here in the forum that have tried and liked the Alaffia brand unscented shea butter.
http://www.alaffia.com/shea-butters/handcrafted-shea-butter-unscented.html

A user today sent me a link of where he purchased his shea butter that he really liked. The price is certainly right for the amount you get. $9.00 USD for one pound is a great deal.
http://www.crabapplesoap.com/rawsheabutter.html

Or you can just do an Internet search for "shea butter", and you will get a very long list of places that sell it. Just make sure it is 100% pure unrefined shea butter with no scents added. And stay away from dark yellow shea butter like what I got in the Skye Botanicals brand. You'll notice in the link above that they changed from yellow to beige shea butter due to customer preference. I thought that was kind of interesting. Hope this helps.

I tested out the Alaffia unrefined hand crafted shea butter a couple of times and for me it seems a little too viscous / too thick. I really enjoy the feeling of the Aneros moving inside of me, and the shea butter seems to lessen that feeling a little. (Compared to Maximus lube).

Hello People, 🙂

I started using 100% unrefined shea butter, last fall when it was cooler. So now that the weather is starting to warm up here as we are almost into summer. I've noticed when the indoor temperature gets to about 75F/25C, my Now Foods shea butter becomes way too soft, and melts far too quickly during application. You basically end up with a mess of melted shea butter in the crack of your ass because you can't really push it in in that state. It needs to be firm enough to push up into your anus and rectum. So now my shea butter resides in my refrigerator during the hotter months, to keep it firm enough to get a good application of lube internally. It does however, require a spoon to take some out now, because it is very firm. No big deal though. Just have to make sure I don't accidentally spread some of this on my toast! 😆

Nice Love_is
Thanks for the tip.
It's getting hot where I am as well and it's been a difficult task to get the shea butter inside of me. Just melts all over my hands and makes a mess.
It's going into the fridge now!

I had the same problem with mine getting too warm ... to the point where it was mostly liquid! I was a little concerned about keeping it in the fridge, but with so many others doing the same thing with no issues I feel better about it.

My first purchase got me a 6 oz. jar for about $20. Definitely not cost effective. I have since looked around, and as an earlier post mentioned, it can be found for around $9 a pound if you buy bulk. I'm waiting on my next shipment. No idea if it will have a different consistency than the stuff they sell as moisturizer.

My experience so far with the first batch has been positive. I'll have to try the 'lube the fingers' technique because I have had the problem with it sticking to my fingers as I tried to insert it.

After reading all the positive posts, I ordered some shea butter. I got it off Amazon. The brand is AAA.
I did trust everyone and ordered the larger 16 oz size.
I have to say that honestly it made a significant difference. Money well spent and another example of the forum being put to good use.
Anyone that is on the fence about this, I encourage you to give it a try.
I went a bit further than ever before and I solely credit the shea butter.
The application instructions here on the thread were very helpful and I followed them to a T.
(Not a super T)
Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

Noticed that Amazon might also offer "Used."

Does anyone know if any of the "used" butter bears a Super-O decal?

Hi Carolinaguy, 🙂

I'm glad to hear you had a helpful positive experience with shea butter that further progressed your Aneros journey. That was my experience with it also.

I am having great success with the mixture of shea butter and coconut oil with just a bit of beeswax. the coconut oil is quite inexpensive thus offsetting the cost of the shea butter.'
I tried the shea butter by itself and didn't really care for it. what I bought (health food store) was a bit gritty and somewhat abrasive.
As far as inserting in during warm weather.... I use the syringe I bought here on this site. that's my favorite way to lube up warm or cold. 30 seconds in the microwave and lube you couldln't dig out with a spoon sucks right up into the syringe. this way also makes it easy to know how much lube you are using

i have a trick to deal conveniently with warm shea butter.

instead of storing it in the fridge, which would be a hassle in my house, i pull out a butt-sized-chunk (i use a plastic knife to cut out a piece), and submerge it in a little cup of cold water. a few seconds does the trick.

Roughly, what formula or ratios are you using in this blend. I'm assuming that the beeswax raises the melting temp. ???

Darwin that's a pretty slick idea you have there.
I've got to try that now that warmer weather is here.

I got the recipie here from the post Rumels natural jelly ( I think that was it?)
I think I used about two parts coconut oil to one part shea butter. the ammount of beeswax in minimal. the first batch I mixed up I used too much beeswax and the stuff was way too hard. the next batch was much better
I think it also called for some vitiman E oil. not sure what that does, but I added it in anyway

Tks... will do a search for it. When found, if its not in the Wiki area, sounds like a Golden Nugget.

That's great that rumel's natural jelly recipe works for you. Just so you are aware, gritty/grainy shea butter is not it's intended consistency. The shea butter web sites out there give a number of reasons for it. But I suspect it mostly has to do with ambient temperature changes after the shea butter is packaged. You can make shea butter all smooth and creamy again by heating it up, stirring it, and then letting it cool off to solidify again overnight, or for 24 hours. I think I made a post about that earlier in this thread. Looking at the user reviews of different shea butter products on amazon.com, I've noticed that there are always some people that have this complaint, and assume it is a bad brand, or think shea butter either is not a good product, or doesn't work well for them. Unforunately, all shea butter may experience this problem at some point, and it has nothing to do with the quality of the shea butter.

Also, the color of the shea butter seems to have a correlation to it's consistency and viscosity. The more pale yellow to off-white it is, the creamier and greaser like quality it seems to have. Where as the dark yellow shea butter seems to be much lighter in viscosity when melted at body temperature. Which in my opinion, does not perform as well for anal play. Keep in mind this is only an observation I've had from the two different brands I have tried that were very different.

Many thanks,

The heavens opened and rained information. Found it in the course of a search, finally found it but read most of the posts from December thru March. Then you posted it. I felt that this deserved a Gold Nugget mark but checked the WiKi and found Rumel's formula there as well.

I think the distillation of all that is that everyone has a particular sense of feel. Others of us are more sensitive to one material or another. Having plenty of choices is great and there isn't a single best solution for everyone.

Does anybody know if you use it with every aneros session if it has effect on your cholestorel level.
Doesn't the butter get absorbed by your body.
Does anyone have info on that?
I sure would like to know because it's the best i used so far and would be very sad to lose it.

I found this: http://sheabutterblog.blogspot.com/2007/03/shea-butter-and-good-cholesterol.html .

The blog contains a link to an abstract article from the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. It would seem that shea butter is beneficial in lowering cholesterol, but I doubt the study took into consideration this particular method of intake.

I like to continue to use it but i'm a little afraid of the effect it has as you said how we use it.
The last physical my cholestorel was good so maybe i will check it again in my hollidays and see what the result will be.

Hi Valliant, 🙂

Perhaps you should get your cholesterol checked anally...

Just kidding! 😆

I have no idea what my cholesterol is. I do know that I am relatively fit, and slender from exercise and a healthy diet. And that I'd rather put a natural lubricant in my anus than a synthetic chemical combination. If I can't safely eat it, then I wouldn't use it anally, as both ways it gets absorbed into the body.

Hi newbie2009, 🙂

Your welcome.

I agree entirely! Find what works best for you!

Finally UPS arrived with the real stuff. (AAA unrefined)

My prior purchase from a local Candle and Herb and Greeting Card shop was perfumed, and got dispatched to the trash heap.

Softened some AAA in the Microwave and tried it with Progasm, then SGX then Helix. (Busiest 15 minute session in history!) WOW, OMG slippery shit. ---> 😮 ❗

This stuff seems to have a negative co-efficient of friction.

The reason everyone is smiling is that, YOU GUYS HAVE DISCOVERED PERPETUAL MOTION !!!

Seriously, I had intended to fetch a can of auto rubbing compound and polish up my Progasm. I'm not so sure that would be a good idea.

How does Shea behave with the ICE ??? ❓

Started a new container of Now Foods shea butter. Like the last one it was crumbly. So I had to heat it up and stir it. And it has now hardened to it's normal consistency. Thank god my first jar of this was normal, or I'd be using something else now.

I bought some Epecurean Shea Butter at The Vitamin Shoppe yesterday. The ingredients say, "Pure unrefined, triple-filtered shea butter."

Has anyone used this brand? What does triple-filtered mean?

Haven't used that brand. Just getting started with AAA.

Re: Triple filtering. The only filtering I found discussed was in "step 8" on this page:

An additional filtering step probably changes the color of the product without slowing the overall process.

Hi gm501, 🙂

I've never used that brand. Nor have I ever seen it.

Check out this link from Epicurean shea butter's web site:
http://www.sheabutterstore.com/origin.html

The Now Foods shea butter I'm using falls under Epicurean's "Lightly refined" category. As it is pale yellow in color.
http://www.nowfoods.com/Products/ProductsbyCategory/Category/M003283.htm?cat=Personal%20Care

The Skye Botanical African Gold Shea Butter I tried looks like it falls under their "Special Note" section for crappy shea butter. So perhaps that was just a poor brand to have tried.

Just make sure that any unrefined shea butter you buy has not been extracted using solvents, and further refined using chemicals.

Perhaps triple filtered means it is their lightly refined grade of shea butter? The color of it should give you an idea.

Thanks, Love_is, for the link to their web site. That provided basically all the info I needed. It's not made using solvents, so that's good. I'm going to try it tonight 🙂
