Accidental use of silicon lube

Hi,

Me and my partner were using my helix syn v.  Mistakenly she used a silicon lubricant thinking it was water based.  When cleaning it i noticed it seemed a bit greasier than normal, and now realising the mistake.  Wondering if its possible to save this?

Reading up on it, silicon lube can make the surface degrade, am wondering if this is even safe to use anymore?  Its very mild as we only made the mistake once, but you can see a bit of subtle blemishing in the light where the surface used to be smooth satin before.

I gave it a big clean and wipe down and definitely seems better again.  And also your products seem to be made of very good quality silicon (have heard medical grade silicon is much more durable) but concerned of whether its a good idea to continue using.  Any advice?

Thanks

As this isn‘t a support forum as such, I‘d recommend to contact Aneros directly (taken from wiki faq),

Best regards!

I still have questions.

Always use Vaseline on my Syn Aneros w/o any damage that I can tell.  Never use a silicone lube.

Curious if anyone uses petroleum based lube with the newer type silicone Aneros is now using?

I've used high quality silicone lube with my HSV and have not had any issues in terms of it degrading. I use Uberlube. I'm just very careful to wash it thoroughly afterwards. In doing some research, it seems no one will definitely say it's okay to use silicone lube, but on one of the podcasts I've listened to, the impression I've gotten is that as long as you're not exposing your toys to the lube for several hours without cleaning, you should be fine.

I've also used a hybrid lube, which is mostly water-based, with about 10% silicone. Better for shower play.

In regards to the answer from BusNut using petroleum based lube, I've read that's a huge no. You don't want to use petroleum products internally from what I've read. The rectum can absorb products into the bloodstream, though this is less likely with silicone. Always worth researching.

@robroyale can you give us an update, how is the toy doing?  I know that everyone says not to use silicone lube with silicone sex toys, but I've been reading recent articles that are challenging that assumption:

I don't have a spare Aneros that I'm comfortable testing myself, but it would be an interesting experiment.  So how is your Helix Syn Trident V doing?

After a bit of continued cleaning with a proper cleaner it seems to be ok now.  Support also messaged me to say that doing it once or twice shouldn't cause any serious damage but they recommend not to continue doing it.

I don't understand why Aneros does not recommend using petroleum based lube with their silicone models.

Petroleum based lube should not have any affect on quality silicone.  Been using petroleum based on the original SYN models for a few years with no ill affects.  Has anyone been using petroleum based lube with the newer "softer" silicone models and noticed any derogation/damage of the silicone surface?
