About PC contractions

I've had a (slightly disappointing) revelation that I might have been doing PC exercises wrong or ineffectively for years! It came to me when I was looking up some tao breathing exercises.

Previously, my contractions were strong, but I think were too wide-ranging, involving too many surrounding muscles. The action I would effect was lifting the muscles "upwards", and this I can hold for minutes or do short repetitions indefinitely. However, I don't reap any of the benefits that are supposed to come from having strong PC muscles!

Lately, I've been trying to relax the surrounding muscles, especially the anal sphincters while squeezing the PC muscles "forward" instead of "upwards". The effect is more subtle but seems to be more effective. I still don't get tired, but the muscles flutter more which seems to indicate they aren't so well toned?

Any experts in PC muscle activity to lend support, advice, opinions?

Hello rainstomp, 🙂

I suspect you are very much correct. I use a slight contraction that I describe as being halfway between a anal and PC contraction. It makes it feel like only the front portion of my anus is contracting on the Aneros. Whether that's what is actually happening or not is debatable. But, that's what it feels like.

I read on a tao sex website that PC exercises should only be for women, as in men, they trigger some hormone releases that would spur you on towards ejaculation, thus bypassing any opportunity for pleasure to build. Does this sound right to any of you who follow Taoism? I would surmise that this explains why a full contraction has a negative effect for me.
