Hello:
I am a quite fit 73 year old with a moderately enlarged prostate.
I am pondering the possibility of making a purchase of probably a Helix model.
I have been taking avodart and tamsulosin once a day in the evening for the past four months.
I don't believe that the avodart is "shrinking" my prostate however, they say it could take upwards to a year.
Nevertheless, i am purely interested in getting my prostate back to as normal functioning as possible and by the way, the other "benefits" of thrilling orgasms etc. are not a reason for me to purchase.
My question is..... is there anyone out there who has been able to stop taking the drugs after using their prostate messager for a period of time ?
I was encouraged to inquire here further,as a result of reading the good comments made by Dr. David Williams and others about the prostate messager.
I would sincerely appreciate any feedback in this regard.
Thank you.

Hi guitars,

Welcome to the Aneros Forums, your best source of information for learning about the multiple benefits and joys of using the Aneros prostate massagers.

FYI, High Island Health LLC is the parent company & manufacturer of the Aneros® brand of prostate massagers. This patented device was originally and is currently offered for sale as the Pro-State® line of massagers on the High Island Health website. The HIH website is primarily oriented toward the health aspects and benefits of prostate massage in accord with Oriental medicine for prostate related issues. A forum for users to discuss practice with these devices also exists on that website, I encourage you to check out that site to learn more about the health benefits. You may also be interested in reading about the ongoing Columbia Medical School study using the Pro-State massagers. The High Island Health website also contains testimonials from users regarding their experiences using these wonderful little massagers. The Aneros® website, by contrast, is oriented toward the sensual pleasure aspects of prostate massage. Obviously you should consult with your doctor before deciding to cease taking any medications prescribed for you.

P.S. I sent you an introductory PM with some additional hints and tips to get you started here.

Hey guitars

Short answer: following 2.5 years of regular use. No, it's not been a cure. Has it helped -- definitely yes. Is there a trend toward long improvement -- I think so. Has it reversed bph -- no.

Longer answer with explanation:

Unmedicated and without Aneros massage I'm a member of the five-times a night crowd and when on the golf course whine about the lack of porta-pottys. BPHwise, I'm in the 50-gram region. I've not attempted Avodart shrinkage therapy and my Urologist prefers to treat me with a simple alfa-blocker.

I've used Hytrin (terrazosin), Cardura (doxazosin) and Saw Palmetto. Before I started with the Aneros I was taking 1-mg of Hytrin daily and three Saw Palmatto caps a week to smooth out the daily peaks and valleys from Hytrin. (the time-release character of Cardura also worked to do that but at the cost of an excessive drop on blood pressure and severe restrictions on my use of oral E.D. meds.)

Daily Saw Palmetto seems to aggrevate my tendency toward Early Ejac.

Regular Aneros usage alongside 1mg of daily Hytrin gives me a solid stream, good start, no dribble, no frequency, no urgency and sleep throughout the night. Ultrasound shows I'm OK at voiding my bladder without any heavy effort.

Regular Aneros use (two pleasure sessions a week and a therapy session about every 10 days) works for me.

The Aneros has not yielded any decrease in prostate size and my Urologist offers a prognosis that I'll need surgery in about four years (early 80s). I've opted for that path rather than put up with the expense and reported side effects from Avodart.

Last February I was out of the country for four weeks and forgot to pack my Hytrin. Relying on just Aneros massage, I had some tightening of my stream and a single 'git-up' each night. The annoyance was there but it was not as serious as being without any therapy. I think I could live easily in the no-medication mode and rely on just the Aneros.

Remember that all of us have some differences in how we are affected by bph so YMMV and your Urologist probably has a good finger on what your prostate is doing.

blessings and best wishes .... rook

Lae edit -- If you try this for bph, it will be quite interesting to see you avoid the pleasure aspects of this tool. 😉
