I know that it is recommended that water-based lubricant be used, but I've been told that water-based compounds tend to break down during extended use; I don't like the thought of having to remove the aneros and reapply lubricant during use. Would it be safe to use something like a silicon-based lubricant? I know they also sometimes contain mineral oils and such.

JSmith,

There has been a great deal of discussion on the topic of lubrication. For starters check out my thread in BEE LINE entitled LUBRICATION. It's about half way down and was dated 7/06/2004. You'll find my comments about the water based lubes and another users comments about the silicone based products.
