Six (or seven?) sessions in. Question about involuntaries.

This was the first session where I actively tried contraction exercises. The Aneros wiki article's section on these says that, after the exercises, holding 1/4 to 1/2 of full contraction strength "is difficult" and it's supposed to trigger muscle spasms. For me, this was not the case. After contracting and practicing my base contraction, I held a medium contraction for a good ten minutes with no problem, then tried a stronger level of contraction with the same result. My sphincter felt like it would literally never get tired. I eventually gave up and ended the session, as it had already been over an hour.

Is this normal or has my anus been lifting weights when I'm not looking?

Slowly, deeply breathe and relax as much as you can with your Aneros in for about 10 minutes, then do gentle PC contractions, that is the contraction you use to cut off urine mid-stream (which you can practice the next time you have a full bladder by stopping your urine flow intermittently before you've emptied your bladder) all during which time you tickle your nipples lightly and teasingly. This just about always starts quivering like anal contractions and then the involuntary rectal contractions that lead to orgasms for me.

You might be holding it in too tightly. I know I was. Everyone is different--a half contraction is too much and I don't get invountaries. What I did was pull it all the way in, then push it all the way out, to understand how both feel. Then I pulled it in ever so slightly, the smallest movement I could make. I repeated that, very very slowly, until I found a position that felt good. I'd say it was about 1/8 in, not very far. Now THAT was difficult to hold and the involuntary contractions started after a few minutes.
More importantly, that position felt great. That's what it's all about. Find something that feels good and try to maintain it, don't worry about contractions or anything else. Just enjoy it!

While I appreciate the advice, none of it seemed to work. I tried every range from the base contraction all the way to as tight as I could squeeze. I did get some very slight quivering when I held the hardest contraction I could possibly manage, but it didn't lead anywhere and even that stopped after a few seconds. I'm wondering though, I'm only a few sessions in (and I'm not feeling much of anything), so should I even be trying for involuntaries yet?

I had problems at first too, just like everybody else. My breakthrough came when I quit trying to force things to happen. It sounds to me like that's what you're doing. Try this: Don't concentrate so much on a formula for contractions. Get good and relaxed, do a normal contraction every now and then to "wake things up", but most important, concentrate on how you feel inside. I did this for about an hour before having my first super-o. When the feelings start getting intense, that's when the spasms start. For me it feels like a tickle at first, and then it feels like my bladder and balls are swelling. Concentrate on anything resembling that. You will find that you will start to lose control at some point. Remember, your mind is a large part of the equation here.

all of the above is excellent advice.

aksel, it is not a mere function of contraction strength or weakness or position. like baseball, it is not just your swing. it is also keeping your eye on the ball. in this case, the ball is feelings of pleasure. that is what you are swinging at. though the metaphor isn't so good because baseball is goal oriented (which is what you are doing), but that is counter-productive here. you have to be relaxed and accepting and understand that you can't force this. your body has to find the pleasure. in that regard, it is like falling asleep. you can't force it, you just set the stage.

at the stage of six (or seven?) stages in your body is just getting oriented. everybody is different, but that would be pretty early in the process to get involuntaries.

how about trying a do nothing session?

Another very important thing (at least for me) was to recognize that there isn't this one and only contraction pattern that you have to discover and which will directly take you to super-O land but that it's a very slow (and for the most part automatic) process which probably doesn't even need you to do sth in a certain way but that just needs you to listen to your body talking. In terms of physical actions I'm not doing very different from my first sessions at all, though, the results are completely different.

there is no perfect method for aneros use the hold a contraction method used to work quite well for me i would hold a contraction for a few mins then involantries would kick in but now i swear by deliberate contractions along with breathing i still hold contractions but its more natural it just happens when it feels right i would say try some strong contractions really squeese it into you prostate but dont over do it

When I have started having involuntaries my mind has stopped them simply by saying to myself "wow, these are involuntaries!" As soon as I name or judge (even "this feels great") I find that I lose it. It's a real discipline (for this goal oriented male) to simply experience without giving things names.

I just started getting involuntaries last week. For me, light contractions was the key. To use a really strange analogy, it reminded me of the way a transistor works. You put a very small current across it and it allows a much larger current to move through. My voluntary contraction barely moved it, but the involuntaries really got it going. I think if you contract too hard, you basically wipe out any chance for the involuntaries to work.

I would also add another piece of advice that I forgot. Take a few days off between sessions. Even now, if I have sessions too close together, it's not as good for me. Give your body and mind time to rest and incorporate the process.

Remember, your mind is a large part of the equation here.

Unfortunately, that's part of my problem. It's hard for me to relax and concentrate on this because, at this stage, I'm not feeling anything. Other than the general fullness, there's nothing to feel and I eventually get bored. I've actually fallen asleep a few times.

how about trying a do nothing session?

Most of my sessions so far have been do-nothing sessions. I've only tried for the involuntaries twice.

When I have started having involuntaries my mind has stopped them simply by saying to myself "wow, these are involuntaries!" As soon as I name or judge (even "this feels great") I find that I lose it. It's a real discipline (for this goal oriented male) to simply experience without giving things names.

I have that very same personality type, and I'm almost positive that's going to be a problem at some point. I'll cross that bridge when I come to it, but first things first.

I would also add another piece of advice that I forgot. Take a few days off between sessions. Even now, if I have sessions too close together, it's not as good for me. Give your body and mind time to rest and incorporate the process.

I've had experienced users tell me to go every day when just starting out, because the sessions build on one another...or something... For now, I'm going 5-6 nights a week.

Back when I started out, I got advice from some experienced users to take at least one day off between sessions. While it's true that there is cumulative progress, it's more like learning than bodybuilding. I'd say that 5-6 nights a week is a bit aggressive.

I'm a "do it every day" advocate, but I find great variety in the intensity of my sessions. I think it's almost equally "body building" and learning. Some sessions are so intense on my muscles that I will take a day or two with very gentle ones, but I make it a point to practice every day.

I can see what you mean about equal parts there. However, the bodybuilding is much easier than the learning. I think it's better to concentrate on the mental aspects at first, and then let the muscles take you to the next level after the first super-O.

Aksel,

Seems like you're doing everything right, including doing nothing and falling asleep with it. Are you sure the Aneros is making contact with your prostate? Do you get the "need to pee" feeling if you manually manipulate the device a little bit? Can you get a Super-T while using it?

Cheers,

Dave

Check out this thread (post #18) for a more updated report. Manual manipulation does give me a slight "need to pee" feeling as well as the other approprite sensations, but I have to manipulate it in such a way that is very, very different from how it sits naturally.

As for getting a Super-T with it, there's no way. I'm having early difficulties, so a Super-T at this stage would be dreaming pretty big.

Aksel;

Thanks for the pointer back to the other thread. I had read it and forgot about your multiple issues. Obviously, you have more of an uphill battle than most.

I wish you the best of luck,

Dave
