Although I'd had such random twinges from being very young, the first one that really got my attention was when I was 11 years old and had my first taste of sherry. I'm sorry, I have to disagree with zaneblue. I can remember getting into trouble as young as 3 years old for laying on the couch rubbing myself; eventually I stopped for awhile and even forgot about it, but one day when I was approaching my teens I suddenly remembered that I used to do something that I had really enjoyed, and since I was home alone then I set about remembering just what it was. It's possible that I have a stronger sex drive than a lot of women I suppose, I don't actually know much about other women's sex drives, but I'm also capable of totally shutting down sexually if I'm unhappy or not in a relationship. Hubby is happy that he can make me come over and over again, and pretty easily too, but if I didn't trust him so much experience tells me that wouldn't be the case.

I hate to say this, but those sorts of surveys are self-selecting. Women who don't masturbate are unlikely to take a masturbation poll.

I think it's true that women's sexuality varies more widely than men's. I personally also think this is mainly due to varying nutrition--I think women's sexual response is much more sensitive to good nutrition than men's is (which makes sense evolutionarily speaking, since women have much more to lose by procreating during a time of famine).

I've never given it much thought, but I believe zaneblue is right about the effects of nutrition on women's libido's. Other things probably figure into it too though, like hormone production and even emotional states. Supposedly women who are entering menopause frequently experience a drop in sexual desire, but I started just about one year ago exactly and mine has increased to more than what most people half my age probably have; I attribute this not only to my hormones going nuts but to being in a much better emotional frame of mind.

Awwwww, No one who masturbates is a fool. Girl, or Boy. I think its really cute that there are girls that do masturbate. Im one of those guys who thinks everything about a woman is special, Her face, her smile, her curves, her uterus, even her periods (Why are so many women put of by their own bodies. I agree with you regarding periods. I've always thought of it as a time of renewal, and i think that mindset makes mine rather uneventful, and more oftent hen not a positive experience. I see my friends who carry this baggage about how awful and terrible it is and they invariable have miserable periods. I'm not sure which comes first the mindset or the physical symptoms.
