Progress or red-herring?

Hey, everyone!

Hopped back into the Aneros recently. I can't be sure if I'm making actual progress here, but I seem to be getting a bit more out of it.
The problem I'm having is that the anal sphincter is suppose to be the muscle doing the majority of the work, right? Because other muscles nearby keep kicking in and taking over the workload. Particularly there's a muscle near the perineum that will almost always take over on contracting. I think this is the PC muscle.

Saying that, it does feel pretty good when contracting that one - with or without Aneros. I think this might be the muscle used in Kegel Exercises? I'm not sure though. It might even just be the muscle used for erection - and that I'm just not aware of it. I'm pretty sure they're separate, though there is a tendency to accidentally slip contractions from one to the other.

Again though, these feelings are pretty nice. The anal sphincter is the muscle to contract, but are other muscles actually necessary in the process of developing good feelings and P-Waves? (The point of it is massaging the prostate after all)

Moreover I keep (against my will) hammering the contractions rather than holding them for a few seconds then letting go. (along with my breath) The steady, slow contractions just don't seem to do much/anything for me - unless the point of them is to just get something subtle going. In which case, ok, cool!

I know the Aneros experience can be different for all but I'm a little hesitant in that I might be using the wrong muscles. Getting the 'wrong' feelings. I don't want to carry on months down the line only to find out it's not the way to a Super O lol!

Thanks everyone

Have you tried the "do-nothing" method? It is certainly working for me. I know that some guys seem to swear by doing lots of contractions, but I have made much more progress since I gave up on them. In giving them up, I have also given up a lot of the anxiety that comes from trying to make things happen. Generally, I find that "trying" to do anything gets in the way of the sensations, and slows or even reverses progress.

Actually, yeah! That method often kicks in naturally.
The big road block though is (I think) that I can't exactly be expressive about my experience - that is, I can't moan or anything that involves raising the voice. (Other people and all)
I don't know if people who hit the Super O or come class have let their voice go freely; if they did, well, there's my stopping block!

And funnily enough, just as I was writing this I put 'do nothing' into actual practice. Holy crap. that was a little alarming - I wasn't even using the Aneros. I decided "let's try and study my digital painting (for mistakes)" as a slight sensation was building. It was getting to point where my head was starting to daze. (and vision blurring) I was both forcefully ignoring yet (slightly) acknowledging the sensations. Is that kind of how it works? My PC muscles were doing the majority of it which again I'm not sure is the one to use.

Recently I experienced a couple of new feelings during sessions:

- a tingling sensation in my balls, which lasted a couple of seconds. Produced by very fast, stronger contractions.
- muscles pushing aneros out (clamping?). Sometimes this comes with several seconds of rock-hard erection. Rock hard in the way I used to have when I was 14 years old, when contracting PC makes it feel like your penis is going to burst and peeing is a real problem because it's hard to bend the penis down enough (and all contact reinforces the erection; in the end you have to kneel and hold it down). At one time a relatively large amount of clear fluid was discharged from my penis.

I got dragged down by details. But the second feeling - "about to burst" hard erection was produced by very light contractions. So I have two mutually exclusive ways to go, and don't know where each of them leads.

In any case, I seem to be getting slightly more with each session. I've found that one of simplest and most effective tricks is to keep your eyes closed during a session.

I lucked into a dry O a couple of months back and have been trying to figure out how to do it again ever since. One thing that has really helped my recent progress is to be aware of and try to relax any tension in my body. It may sound obvious, but it snuck up on me.

I became aware just recently that I had tension in my abdominal muscles, probably as a side effect of gearing up the involuntaries. At first, I could not get those muscles to relax, but I kept at it. Once I did kind of separate those muscles from the involuntary contractions, letting them relax, the sensations began to spread outward until I had this really pleasant buzzing all over my thighs and abdomen in addition to the more intense sensation focused on my prostate. I didn't have an HFDO from that session, but it was definitely a step in the right direction.
