@iphone7 You get me wrong. I'm not happy about WordPress either.
You are aware that WordPress is free and open source, too, released under the GPLv2, and under continued development? (Its most recent release being 5.4, released less than two weeks ago).
All software sucks. All software has security problems.
The problem is not so much which software you're running, but more ensuring that the software you're running is being actively maintained on your servers such that you're protecting yourself against known security problems as they arise. It doesn't matter if you're using the latest whizz-bang suite if it's a static snapshot that never subsequently gets updated.
As an example, it would be wise for Aneros to update from their current 5.2.1 version of WordPress to 5.2.3 or later because of XSS vulnerabilities:

https://wordpress.org/news/2019/09/wordpress-5-2-3-security-and-maintenance-release/ (note the date)
So @twlltin you eventually confirmed that both are open sure and should be maintained and updated, no matter which one Aneros Forums use.
what I’m talking about is the set of features the Discourse offers to both the forum owners and its users. It’s simply incomparable. And when it comes to user experience, Discourse wins in every single point by a magnitude, plus gives much more.
Everyone is missing great tools that could make the discussion, navigation, search, linking, tagging, and overall engagement much more fruitful.
wordpress-based forum simply sucks.
p.s. I bet the forum activity and visits statistics went down big time since the transition. Admins can confirm if they will. Numbers will speak.
Speaking of security issues I'm having this pop up every time I load a new page:
You guys have no clue how much you are losing just by using this crap WordPress forum software. It is so wrong in so many aspects, and so nonsense to invest any time in it.
again, just a friendly advice — look at Discourse. At least give it a try in a staging environment.
