Last week, I moved to the Helix from the MGX. Since then I've been a little confused about it. How far is it supposed to be inserted? I'm assuming going in the entire 4" all the way to the neck is too far, as it just slips out to the next ridge no matter what I do. However, the alternative seems no different than the MGX (in fact, the MGX seemed a tad better). Letting the neck slip out doesn't seem to leave much length inserted. The P-tab won't even make contact unless I contract very hard. Do I not have it angled correctly?
When I was a teenager, I very briefly experimented with prostate play. Nothing ever came of it, but I do know what prostate contact feels like. I know the argument for "the awakening of the prostate," but it just doesn't feel like the Helix is making contact with it even if I pull it in as far as I can. I'm thinking of switching back to the MGX for my next session and comparing what I feel to the Helix.

Welcom Aksel,
Nice graphics and good explanations!! Tks also to cyrez for posting that 'cut away' diagram of the inserted Helix.
Helix and Eupho position themselves based on how they 'seat' in the rectum adjacent to your prostate rather than how they are hugged by the sphincters. Helix should pivot around the p-tab and slide a bit through your sphincters to massage your prostate. This is somewhat different from how MGX and SGX function.
"Shoved in" manually and properly lubed, these advanced tools should re-position for a balance between prostate contact and p-tab contact. Sphincter contact may correctly fall anywhere along the stem between where you spotted the arrow (in graphic # 858) and further down the stem. Your question is not unusual and similar questions are posted in the forum every two months or so.
What isn't typical is the distance you are experiencing between the p-tab and your perineum. I think p-tab contact and pressure varies more with the Helix than any other tool.
For me, contact pressure changed markedly during my first four months with Helix. And, I found that Helix was more influenced by rectal cleaning and pre-lube than MGX or SGX.
I'd suggest 'padding' the tab with the bulb from a medicine dropper (pick a large one to ensure good sweetspot contact). See the Wiki section on 'Softening the P-tab': -- http://wiki.malegspot.com/index.php?title=Getting_Started#Inserting_the_Progasm. As your musculature changes you'll probably not need the padding. As you increase padding, make sure you're not getting 'handle interference' from the tool's tail.
The Wiki also relates some experiences with personal modifications to the p-tab -- Advanced Skills - Aneros Wiki --. I'm firmly against this sort of change until one's PC, anal and rectal musculature is pretty well settled-in. Again, that was four months for me -- YMMV. (Temporary padding may save you a world of grief and $$$ from mods that don't work.)
You'll also find that where Helix 'settles-in' is influenced by your body position, posture, lubrication and rectal tension. For me, the Helix is 'heavier' on my prostate when on all fours (a 'fun' position not intended for orgasmic pleasure) or, on my belly. Helix is nearly as 'heavy' when I'm on my side and very loose when I'm on my back. To the contrary, MGX and SGX are less affected by body position.
While MGX feels fairly 'full' in the lower part of my canal and has more drag when it moves, Helix's slim lower body has less friction and offers the tool more agility -- at the expense of lower canal 'fullness.'
Enjoy and keep us posted.
Thanks a lot, guys. Now at least I know for sure I'm not using it wrong. One less thing to worry about.
Helix should pivot around the p-tab and slide a bit through your sphincters to massage your prostate.
The sliding is something I've never really understood. Do you mean the stem should physically be sliding in and out, or just moving with the position of the sphincter itself as it contracts? To get the MGX to "slide," I had to violently force it as I would if I was on the toilet, and the same would be impossible with the Helix because of where my sphincter rests. To "slide," I would have to push it further in with my hand first.
I found that Helix was more influenced by rectal cleaning and pre-lube than MGX or SGX.
I've been cleaning before each session with a rectal syringe purchased from here. And I always use plenty of lube.
As you increase padding, make sure you're not getting 'handle interference' from the tool's tail.
I cut the handle off as per suggestions from other users.

All my sessions have been on my back. A few times I tried lying on my belly and on my side for a bit, but it didn't seem to make a difference either way. But again, as I'm not feeling anything from it, I can't know for sure what position is best for me.
Thanks. Here's hoping I can keep knocking out these problems one by one.
Actually, looking at that diagram again, I think I see a problem. Since the p-tab isn't making contact, it may not be angled correctly or pivoting like it should. It may be missing my prostate completely and going straight for the bladder, which would explain why I have to urinate in the middle of all my sessions.
It's pretty hard to get it wrong, don't worry so much about it. As long as you're clean and lubed up nicely the helix is moving in and out as it's supposed to, all depending on how much pressure there is in your anal sphincter, if you relax the sphinter the helix moves out a little bit, and if you clench it, it will move inwards, easy as that. My p-tab on my helix is also very light on touching my perenium, thats just different from person to person, and one telltale sign of a good prostate contact is actually that sensation that you need to pee, so everything is OK, just relax and enjoy =) (You might want to empty your bladder before a session though, since a full bladder is keeping the massager from full contact)
My P-tab jabs me hard and never lets up, probably because of my weight. It probably explains why none of them have been very successful in my journey.
Badger, have you tried getting a tempo/peredise? You might have more success in your journey there. For over a year i struggled with getting the aneros to work to no avail, and then a few days ago tempo came in the mail, total magic, my ass lit up like a christmas tree, but when i tried all the other models it was still the same old tune, nothing.
I have both the beginner's Peridise, and the Tempo. Haven't had a lot of success yet, but I think that is due to my problems with my lower back/hips; they ache and tremble when I work them much. It's really frustrating: I'm relatively comfortable when sitting, i"m fine bent over, I'm fine laying down, and once I move around a bit, I'm good standing and walking. But for a while after transitioning to standing, my buttocks start to twitch and I get stabbing pains, and the the pain starts down the legs in both the hamstrings and quads. I can stand bent over cutting firewood with a chainsaw just fine, but have trouble walking to and from the site. Very frustrating.
Tried the Helix again, but no change. It still doesn't feel right at all. I'm probably going to switch back to the MGX, if nothing else, for comparison purposes.
When I use the Helix, I have it inserted the same distance as the MGX. The spot you pointed to on the Helix is "north" of the corresponding spot on the MGX. The narrowing nearest the Tab/handle (on both Helix and MGX) is at the anal opening.
The narrowing nearest the Tab/handle (on both Helix and MGX) is at the anal opening.
Right. That's the part I can't hold onto.
Aksel,
You are correct, where the anal sphincter holds the MGX and where it holds the Helix are different. This difference effectively gives the MGX a deeper penetration.
This image accurately depicts the proper insertion location of a Helix massager. The tip of the Aneros (while inside the rectum) pushes against the prostate gland. When the anal sphincter muscles are contracted, the Aneros with its P-tab arm is pushed up into the prostate and thus massages it. The P-tab also acts as an anchor/fulcrum/pivot point. When the contraction takes place the Aneros will rotate slightly about the center point of the P-tab thus pushing the tip of the Aneros forward into the prostate for added massage action. With both the Helix & Eupho models it is not necessary (nor really practical) to attempt to insert all the way to the "T" junction.
Rumel, thank you so much for clearing that up. My only remaining problem is little to no p-tab contact. I'll need to find some way to augment that, but I'll keep trying in the meantime.
Since this is a thread on the Helix, I thought I'd ask that I'd recently bought the Helix, my first aneros, and I like it on the inside but i don't like the disk on the P-tab. The tab has a manufacturing ridge around it that is not smoothed out and it chaffs against my perineum. Even though I lube that area multiple times I have to stop using the Helix because of the chaffing, and I am not feeling finished with what I am supposed to be using the aneros for.
I was thinking of buying a model that has a ball instead of a disc on the P-tab, but I am wondering if it is unusual or usual for others, with any model, to have a manufacturing ridge on whatever is on the P-tab.
The anal insertion part is, of course, very well rounded and no problems there.
Thanks.
Peter
here is a thread that can address both concerns about the helix tab:
there are a bunch of other things you can do about p-tab discomfort:
- this post discusses sanding an aneros: http://www.aneros.com/forum/f5/progasm-mod-10902/
- insert the corner of a washcloth between you and the tab. if you do it right, the cloth can tickle your balls as well.
- at hardware store purchase a set of plastic tips to go on the end of a dowel. they are the shape of little cups. with luck one will fit snugly on the helix tab
- if it is clearly a defect, write to support

I just ordered the Progasm. I think I'll like it, in comparison,
Peter
lve been wondering about this model, lve followed the information, tried many different positions but it always seems to get dragged in all the way down the narrowest bit at the bottom. tho admittedly lm pretty generous with the lube and for some reason always seem to get a little uh.. slimy down there due to how much l use lol.

What happens when you try Darwin's mod (see post #17 in this thread) with the medicine dropper cap? That should tip Helix's head forward, increase pressure on the Prostate and trade that for less 'suck-in'
Suggest when you do that, keep track of the clearance between Helix's tail and your crack. If it's making contact, consider removing the tail/handle.
rook.
actually l remove the tails on all the Aneros models l have, lm currently awaiting the Eupho to arrive to add to my collection.
