i recently purchased a helix, and in comparison to my MGX, it is much rougher. Did the manufactuer get lazy and not sand them down properly?

Best way to make it as smooth as MGX?

Hi acakactinum!

This problem has come up in the past and a good solution has been thoroughly discussed in the thread Progasm Mod.

Just run a search for "Progasm Mod". I sent for and used the "buffing pads" described there and they work very well! "Smooth as Glass"
