Hello fellow aneros users, i have seen many posts in which Shea Butter is highly recommended as an alternative lube so i decided to give it a go as I find regular lube tends to dry out within hour or so of use. I just received my order today and the label is as follows:

PURE UNREFINED ORGANIC SHEA NUT BUTTER ( Butyrospermum Parkii ). NOT FOR INTERNAL USE.

Not for internal use..... This line has me a little concerned, just wanting to know if anyone else has this marked on their label when purchased or have I purchased the wrong product. I have tried to upload a photo of the label but it keeps coming back as an error.

Thanks in advance.....

Although I'm not a Doctor and/or a chemist, I would advise you and anyone else, not to manufacture home made lube. :-O

@donchich, try warming some of it up. Does it look like a clear oil? If it does i'm sure its fine since its unrefined and organic. I think you just want to make sure it has no pieces of nuts in it as that could be uncomfortable internally. If no pic, do you have a link to where you purchased it?

If it's really, "pure unrefined Shea Butter" you're as OK as the other guys here who have been lubing with it for years. Shea Nuts [ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitellaria ] are nutritious but best avoided by people who have any allergy to tree nuts.

I'm with @ineverknew on this one and guessing that the label is crafted by someone using simple "lawyer speak."

Yes, warm it up and look at it. If you are concerned about any disease pathogens lurking in the jar, keep the heat (185-190 deg. F) on the oil for five minutes to kill the most common germs.

I'd be cautious if i where you. Isn't shea butter edible? If so i would be suspicous as to why they put that label on their, it seems suspect. I'd use very low amount and see if it affects my anus negatively. Did you buy it from a well reputed seller or an individual small seller? It just doesn't seem safe.

Thanks guys for the reply, still not able to load pic but I have the link from where i purchased it from. By the way, I am in Australia and bought it from here.

http://www.n-essentials.com.au/Organic_Unrefined_Shea_Butter_p/bsb.htm?CartID=1

I placed some between my fingers and it melts down to a very clear, slightly sticky and slippery feel. No lumps or pieces in between.

Thanks again....

@Donchich, that sounds like the real stuff. I think the warning is because the suppliers have no idea where you are likely to put it!!! Shea Butter is very popular and seems to be safer than the manufactured stuff loaded with all sorts of stuff an probably made in a shed somewhere. I would heat it up using a small saucepan floating in a bigger saucepan with water , then pour it into a smaller container. This is so you don't burn it or get it up to flash point.
I use an open ended syringe to insert, it melts inside. Some freeze it into pelts some excrude it into cylinders,

@Donchich,I hope this puts your mind at rest but I have had no problems so far.

I discovered "n-essentials" about three months ago and have been using a shipment of this product from them since that time with no ill effects that I can detect.

I don't recall any label to the effect that their shea butter should not be used internally but I suspect this might mean that it should not be taken by mouth. (Not sure why you would want to try such a thing but, who knows)?

I have just made a repeat order from them and expect to receive it in the next few days. I'm still confident that it is OK to shove up your bum! I do believe it is the best thing since sliced bread!

Would be interested to know if 'putting the pot on' makes any difference.

Sterilizing it by heating it in a double boiler (bain-marie) for a while is probably a good idea.

That's what I do when mixing up my own lubes.
