This forum suddenly won't accept my nexus7 keyboard... Weird. Works on all other sites. The keyboard just disappears.

Which browser are you using? Have you tried other ones (eg. Firefox, Opera).

Iphone5: chrome, Nexus7 both firefox and chrome. Got this at the start of a comment and then keyboard diappears.

Alex, same happens to me with the kindle. I click on the icon above the text box, the last one after the printer icon. The other icons will then gray out and I can type and the keyboard doesn't go away.
