Irritable Bowel Syndrome and lube problem?

I took to heart a recent post by another aneros newbie who recommended two or three syringes of lube internally to really get mobility. I tried it with good results. That was part of my breakthrough a week ago getting strong persistent involuntaries and the greatest prostate massage yet from my MGX. Day before yesterday I tried that again, and instead it immediately triggered an Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) colitis-like attack. I'm using ID Glide and occasionally KY. Has anyone with IBS or colitis, or anyone else had problems with lubes or quantity of lube creating anything like these explosive and painful difficulties? Help! Thanks.

That sounds excessive. I can't imagine needing more than 1 syringe full to achieve more mobility.

For myself, I generally just apply Maximus to my helix without any internal lubrication. Once in a while I inject about half a syringe first and I don't notice any significant improvement. I'd consider a full syringe worth if I thought it would really help, and even more but I'd need supporting statements from several other people before I'd try it.

I don't know anything about IBS but from what I've read here about ID glide, do you think it's possible the glycerin content could be causing it?

When I was using KY as lube, it was causing the same kind of problems. After just a few minutes it would cause my bowels to act up. It was very irritating. As artform said, many stated that the glycerin in water based lubes may be the problem so I switched to using Vaseline petroleum jelly. It worked great and I no longer have that previous problem at all. Even though the Vaseline works great, I'd like to try a lube other than Vaseline that would not give me those bowel cramping issues. There are many threads about lube on the forum, but I'm sort of confused by all the options. If I use a water based lube that does not contain glycerin, will it not give me the same kind of bowel difficulties? Is it the glycerin specifically that causes the reaction, or something water based versus the oil based? I'm still not sure which one would be appropriate for me. Perhaps some who have experimented with various other lubes can give us more advice.

One children's medicine dropper holds roughly 5 cc/ml's. This amount should be entirely adequate for the job. What's important to remember is that you're are simply adding supplemental lubrication inside the rectum where it will help the body of the Aneros move more freely. Applying lubrication to the unit alone results in a good amount of it being squeezed off as it passes through ones anus.

Regarding lubrication and IBS, the truth is that even if one does not have IBS, the use of water based lubes can be a problem for some people. Most of these products contain glycerin which can produce a purgative effect (more highly concentrated glycerin suppositories are used therapeutically as a laxative) . The more of this kind of lube that one applies internally, the higher the likelyhood of some of it making it's way into the colon. Once this occurs peristalsis is often the result, and one is then committed to some time on the pot.

I'm not trying to dissuade anyone from using these products, (I use them myself), it's just that you have to know that the potential for the urge to purge is there. Maximus contains propylene glycol and is glycerine free. I use this one quite often as well, and it has never presented this kind of problem for me.

In conclusion, if you are sensitive to glycerin stay with smaller amounts for internal lubrication or use the thicker jelly type internally, it tends to stay more localized (although it's tough to use it with a dropper....a syringe is often required). As an alternative, try Maximus or Aneros' own Marksman (now on sale...check out the home page) which are both propylene glycol preparations. Another alternative is Boy Butter ...a newcomer that's been getting a lot of attention here in the forum (it's a silicone/oil/water (glycerin) based hybrid).

Thanks very much for elaborating on the lube / purgative effect. I'll give some of the others you mentioned a try. The Marksman sounds interesting. Do you have a list of the ingredients in that product, B.?

Boy Butter has been recently discussed in a posting started by myself, the outcome was as expected it had its pro boy butter, and against boy butter.

I must say that I have found no better lube.

Give it a go if you can!

A word of advice, most people who commented suggested that the tube version was better than the tub version. Personally I can not comment on this but I will wait and see.

Good luck

Hey Guys!

I have been using Albolene almost exclusively for several months and it is working very well for me! (since Darwin's post on this lube)

INGREDIENTS: Mineral Oil, Petrolatum, Paraffin, Ceresin and Beta Carotene.

As Brian has mentioned before: "Albolene has been used by the porn industry for years."

Works for me!

Later, Hlaser

Thanks for the info about Albolene, Hlaser. That sounds like just what I'm looking for. I'll have to find some.

After reading the ingredients you posted, I decided to mix Vaseline petroleum jelly with Wet's oil based lube (mostly mineral oil). It worked great!!

thanks again.

Thanks all.

Everything settled down quickly, so it was not IBS, but the glycerin effect! Should have thought of that myself.

Back to enjoying EVERYTHING...

Regarding Albolene, as one the principle ingredients is mineral oil, it too can have a laxative effective in some individuals. Mineral oil has been used for over a hundred years for this purpose. It acts by blocking the absorption of water in the colon. When combined with petroluem jelly and paraffin (wax) this effect may be enhanced. Again, not everybody will have a problem with it, if you do, switch to something else.

Thanks very much for elaborating on the lube / purgative effect. I'll give some of the others you mentioned a try. The Marksman sounds interesting. Do you have a list of the ingredients in that product, B.?

Regarding the ingredients in Marksman the primary ingredient is propylene glycol. I will try to get a complete list of ingredients and update later.

Thanks, B. I'll look forward to the other ingredients.

I've been using the mineral oil and petroleum jelly together and have not had the laxative effect that I got with the water based glycerin products. I'd like to get away from using those oils though. I hear that they stay inside on the skin and are not the healthiest to use.

Collin,

The ingredients of Marksman are listed as follows: Purified Water, Propylene Glycol, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol

All of these substances are in common use in dermatological products, as lubricating agents/ emollients (propylene glycol, hydroxyethylcellulose) preservatives (phenoxyethanol) and wetting agents (caprylyl glycol)

As an aside, propylene glycol is naturally derived from sources such as seaweed, glucose and lactic acid. It should not be confused with the organic compound ethylene glycol (anti-freeze).
