Last week, a post rating system was added, at the same time as moving the forum post texts from left edge to right edge. That caused horizontal scroll bars to appear on all posts when viewed at 1024×whatever (still a very common screen size). Annoying, but not a real problem. I hate to think what people (eg. with poor eyesight) using 800×600 screens are getting, or those using tablets or smart phones.

Now the "related discussions" panel has appeared on all discussions. Please. Please. Move it to below the "Write comment" box. It's in the way and won't get looked at most of the time by regulars.

I'm seeing a lot of reinventing of the wheel here, which must be massively expensive for the company in software development costs. The older vBulletin system would have been fine to continue with if you had kept up with security updates and hadn't customised it such that you couldn't.

Yes to twlltin's post !

And, while I understand the younger generation's hesitancy to "shout", pale blue on white and pale pink on white aren't the most legible choices ! . .... rook

The pale colors are really difficult for some to read, especially the pale pink text.

I also prefer the Forum Text on the Left. Just figured I'd get used it, but still don't like them on the Right.

I agree with the earlier comments, but at least the "comments" window is working correctlt for tablet users.

Well not quite, you can't possition the cursor within the text to make edits....

Actually, it's almost totally broken for iPad users.

I too agree that the Related Discussions links are quite obtrusive, particularly in the case when there are many of them on a given topic (as of now there are 20 lines in this thread alone!) No question about it, the comments box should be readily accessible and it should be placed before any info on related discussions. Related discussions/topics are generally the last item one sees on a webpage, e.g. Wikipedia.

With respect to "reinventing the wheel" and "massive software development costs", it appears to me more like HIH has been tweaking parameters in the existing software. The company has sought user/forum member input since they went live with the new site. Hopefully they will be onto the suggestions here soon. In so far as their decision to move away from VBulletin goes, clearly their judgement was that it was time for a change. My sense is that the hacking incident only hastened the process. While there have been some glitches here and there, on balance I'm fairly happy with the direction of things, specially considering that we're so early into this. I'm also certain that things will improve with time.

I totally agree with you Twiltin. Related discussions needs to be placed below the write comments box.

Thanks to the site admins for listening. It's a lot less intrusive now. I still think it would be better underneath. It also duplicates a "Related Discussions" box in the left margin.

Yes indeed much improved, although I too would like to have the comments box directly underneath the last post in the thread.

I must admit I agree with nearly all of the comments made so far and would add that it seems unnecessary to have a list of Related Discussions both in the left sidebar and at the end of the final post in the thread.

Also, whatever happened to the facility that allowed us to quote from a previous post so that we could paste that quote to highlight the purpose of our comment?

I grant you that quoting other posts was quicker in the old Forum, and I liked the word bubble format too, but it can be achieved here fairly simply and frankly more precisely by copying, pasting and adding quotation marks (as shown above). I added color, and that takes a half second more, but it sets it off a bit more and once you're used to it, it's a snap. While that feature in the old Forum was terrific when you wanted to quote an entire post, if the post was rather long or if you wanted to select specific lines only, it was more cumbersome. Invariably I really had to work at it to get it right.
