I was super excited all day, I could not wait to get home and get started with my very first session. I did all the usual prep, cleaning my areas really good with warm rinse, and practicing my contractions and breathing. I lubed up my finger played around a bit and stuck it in to line my rectum with lube. Right away, I guess I felt a mild sting, didn't think much of it, figured it had to do with my finger. When I continued to try and insert the massager I found it very hard and uncomfortable to insert. Then I just got a mild sting the whole time, and I tried getting the good feelings to come but I just couldn't concentrate. Now I did use the restroom 2 hours earlier maybe that irritated my insides a bit. Also I know I am not allergic to the lube, I have tried it with my fingers before this. Now I am not 100% new to anal play, but this was difficult for me to insert. Should I just try again later tonight or give it a rest and try again tomorrow? What could be the reasons for this bad first experience, I am very disappointed, I guess I built it up too much.

Perhaps you had a small hemeroid that was bothered by the play?

If there was any sort of pain I'd suggest you give whatever the problem is time to heal before you insert anything else.

If you had any sort of fingernail you could have done some damage with it, the first time I inserted my finger my nail was not trimmed enough and It felt immediately uncomfortable but no lingering ill effects after I took it out.

I'm sad to hear this. I feel your disappointment. I encourage you not to abandon this.

It's super difficult not to build some expectations before your first try, and not to be disappointed in some way after. I doubt many here completely avoided doing that. Don't dwell on it.

If I read correctly, the sting was there while you were exploring with your finger, and you've done that before without any sting.

I think you're right not to suspect the lube content; I've reacted badly to lubes, but it's a laxative effect, not irritation.

If you felt no discomfort in the two hours before insertion, it probably wasn't anything about the BM. When I have a disagreeable poop, it's immediately obvious.

I'd guess one or both of two things:
1. Not enough lube. You can tweak the amount as you become familiar with what your body needs, but be exceedingly generous with it for starters.
2. The inner sphincter. This is an involuntary muscle. Push at it until it lets you slip through, but don't get eager and force it.

Much of what you wrote echoes the wiki's "Getting Started" advice. I'd be surprised if you haven't read it. It talks about overcoming discomfort, but any sort of burning or itching or stinging is not mere discomfort. That's a straight-up show-stopper that demands immediate resolution. Try again when you feel comfortable, but stop and investigate if the sting returns.

Thank you folks, yeah so I know i can rule out my fingernail and finger. This is how I usually used to play before any sort of massager. And what I am guessing is that since my finger is much smaller width wise my ass what not too bothered by it. But I guess it just was not prepared for this experience. I actually tried three insertions so I guess three separate sessions with more and more lube, I even tried combining the water base with virgin organic coconut oil. Finally after switching on some porn on my third attempt I started feeling something new and quite a rush. But the burning sensation just kept creeping in to ruin any pleasurable feelings. I definitely read the wiki part warning this. Maybe I might have a fissure that isn't healed properly, I don't know. Maybe I might wait a week and try again. Thanks for the advice.

@Beergeekandbeardguy, I notice you added an oil to you normal Water Based lubricant. Have you tried to use only a basic oil based lube such as castor oil or sweet almond oil. I find any water based lube is very uncomfortable with an Aneros. I am not sure why this is.
