First experiences with pain issues

Hi -- I wanted to share my first experiences with the aneros helix. I tried three or four times over a number of month, without success, to insert the helix, working through the wiki, breathing deeply, relaxing, hot baths, etc. Tried using lots of lube, going very slow, but couldn't seem to get it more than a couple inches inside. I sort of hit a wall inside, so to speak, with pain and pretty significant resistance...

Then a couple days ago I switched lubes and finally successfully worked the helix into position. I had some stinging pain on insertion, I believe around the sphincter? It was tough but once the helix slipped in everything settled down and seemed fine.

I lay on my side for about half an hour or so and enjoyed the experience. Nothing mind blowing, but also not too uncomfortable. I did some kegals and maybe the first two would sting a little but after that it was ok. No real breakthroughs but I felt positive about trying again another evening.

As I was easing the helix out, I had a fair amount of pain, again on the lower inside of my anus, pretty sure around my sphincter. I thought at the time that again maybe I wasn't using enough lube - I don't have anything to shoot lube up deep inside and have only been able to work lube in with my fingers, before inserting a well lubed helix.

Side note - A few years ago I received a prostate exam and as the doctor inserted his finger, I felt this same burning pain as he first entered and exited. Maybe I have an extra sensitive sphincter?

Also of note, I suffer from self diagnosed Proctalgia fugax, which is a brutally painful spasm in approximately the same area of the anus, usually onsetting at night, and only relieved with warm water and patience. It's as much pain as I've ever experienced and inserting the helix was maybe 1/4 of that experience.

Anyway, later in the night of my first successful insertion, I awoke with a mixture of pretty insane sensations. On the one hand, my sphincter felt pretty sore, maybe a little spasmy, but the predominate sensation was waves of very bright, sharp electric feelings coming from deep inside and rolling all through my body upwards. It was a nice feeling, pretty overwhelming, although since I was half asleep part of me at the time thought maybe I was dreaming. It was definitely orgasmic, but without the brain portion -- very much in my body.

Early in the morning I awoke again to waves of sensation coming from below, this time much deeper, richer and earthier, again very pleasurable but also something I've never felt before, deep in my core being.

That was three days ago. My sphincter has continued to burn. It's been uncomfortable sitting for any length of time, particularly after bowel movements, which are pretty painful. The best I can describe the ongoing pain as is hot and bright, similar to the morning after an incredibly spicy meal.

Anyway, wondered if anyone else has experienced similar issues. I'd love to keep working with the helix, as some of those wave feelings were pretty incredible, but if I continue to have this hangover pain I'm not sure it's going to be worth it?

@zampana, hi and welcome. You don't say what lubes you have tried and are they water based or oil based. The smaller less aggressive SGX may be worth considering. I presume you have had a medical examination and that no medical problem was found in the pain area?

Hi - thanks for the reply. Water based lube, not sure of the brand. No, I haven't seen a doctor about this condition, might be time I guess. And yes, maybe I need a downsize. Will definitely look into it...

@zampana, water based lubes all give me discomfort of one sort or another. Try a bit of good quality olive oil as a test, or even Vaseline if you can get it to see if it is more comfortable for you. But check for any medical problem.

Okay, if you had a satisfactory prostate exam in recent years, you're probably okay down there. Certainly there's nothing wrong with another visit to your doctor and having another digital rectal exam. And, there's nothing that using an Aneros will "change" down there insofar as your doctor noticing anything is different there.

Sounds also like you could be having an anal fissure, the pain on insertion and the stinging sharp pain with bowel movements. Squat over a mirror with some good lighting and gently pull back the edges of your anus and see if you see a little tear or split in that tender skin that lines your anus. Sometimes, but not always you'll see some blood like with bowel movements.

Soft, easy to pass stools and warm sitz baths will gradually help heal this condition if that is what you have. Try some vaseline or a soothing anal cream like Preparation H cream to your anus and to your Aneros. You don't have to inject lube up inside to make this work. You just need comfortable lubrication at the anal level so the Aneros will slide in easily and comfortably.

Sorry about the proctalgia fugax. I've had it too. Generally, regular use of the Aneros helps with this, least it has with me.

Yes I think a trip to the doctor is in order just to make sure all is good. And thanks for the tip to try other than water based lubes -- that's great, will try that once all settles down. Feeling better today. Me and my sensitive butt! Thanks for the help guys.

@zampana, that sounds similar to I experience from time to time; I wake up around 4:00-5:30 AM with this pain like I have to go to the bathroom. I sit on the toilet and try to relax, but there's nothing there but a leg cramp in the buttox. All I can do is sit there for a half-hour or so, until it subsides, and go back to bed. It only happens a few times a year, but never when I'm having an overnighter session. Steady, consistent use seems to keep it at bay.

@Badger Excuse me for sounding like a snake oil seller but I got some similar, albeit lesser butt cramps and it was all gone after I increased my magnesium and calcium intake via normal food and supplements. I remember reading it could also be some vitamin deficiency but I don't remember which one. Flexing butt and anal muscles regularly to make them stronger also really helps.Cheers.

I've been taking magnesium and calcium supplements due to my back surgery a couple of years ago, but I still occasionally experience the pain in my arse, so to speak. But because I usually have overnight sessions about every other night; the only time I now experience an episode is when I haven't had a session in several days.
