I'm a little confused , lately Ive been reading here more and more about the do nothing approach, which is great but
when I first started 6 mths +ago reading the posts it was stated that to start on your journey you should do the
breathing , contractions etc. which is great also and so much fun . What about Alana ? she'd be out of a job - ha ha
But my question is which is the better approach for a fairly new guy like myself should I continue with
the basic instructions that I started with or throw in a few do nothing approaches and see what happens,
and see where my mind and body take me. Which approach is working best for the members now.

None of this may make sense but, here goes.

I think this is going to be a highly individual matter. It probably depends on one's prior anal-play experience, breadth of sexual and sensuous experience, degree of spirituality, personality (Myers-Briggs typing), and how heavily one is 'wired' into one or more paths to orgasm. (and no doubt another dozen or so experiential factors that I've not considered.)

I had litttle anal experience, a pretty hardened amygdala (little fear and suppressed fight-flight response), a tough personality (ESTJ), was very weak on spirituality and had nearly 50 years of monogamous wiring. My orgasm had shrunk down to just one or two seconds of brain pleasure. I was in severe denial about a very high stress level.

It took a lot of exploration and heavy anal play to break the ice and most of that was so heavy that it frequently overpowered my senses. As was said a couple of days ago, I was "beating my prostate into submission." Thanks to HIH for some fine engineering I did no permanent damage to my bod.

I'm not near the end of the re-wiring trail yet but have tasted a wide range of the sweets that are on the table. I've reached a point where I can sense some of what may be about to happen and take occasional joy in spiritual experiences. My most effective paths and pleasures are now apparent to me. I'm no 'sure-shot' who can shoot the arrow through the keyhole and have the fiine vapors of the Super-O drift back onto my soul every time I undertake a session. I've reached a point where I see a long journey ahead of me. I'm also alert to some pitfalls that can cause me to 'dud-out.' (But, an occasional dud-out is a worthwhile part of the journey as long as you can take note of what got you there.)

Treat this as a grand buffet of tastes and treats. Be accepting and be alert. Revisit the flavors you liked but, be imaginative and creative to explore other stims, combinations of stims and your feelings. As you develop, revisit some of the things that didn't work out the first time you tried them, perhaps at a lower level. --- If four-tablespoons of horseradish on your Jello didn't taste good the first time you tried it, wait a few weeks and try just a speck on your chocolate pudding. Strive for the lowest intensity of stimulation that can produce a result. Just a drop of Tabasco goes a long way!

Enjoy.

poppie,

I sympathize with your plight here, it does all seem very confusing in the beginning of your journey. In an age of 'instant gratification' taking time to learn anything may seem exceedingly frustrating especially when the learning techniques seem contradictory. It still seems confusing to me at times as well, how can such diverse practices lead to the same experiences? A rather confusing paradox for logical thinkers.

I've read a wide variety of accounts of varried practices during my participation on the Forum. From the complicated ('Hitachi Magic' s enthusiastic endorsement of vibrator assistance and 'Tripper' s electro-stimulation assisted practice) to the most simple ("Do Nothing") practice. It seems to me all of these practices (and everything in between) are valid approaches one may try. Ironically, you can only know which practice regime is "better" for you until after you've tried them all.

To your question "Which approach is working best for the members now?" I can't answer, the "best" approach is different for each of us, as each of us is on a unique path in our learning journey. This Forum is filled with suggestions for different techniques one may try in their journey, many of these techniques will have little or no effect on you, some may have a profound effect. Alas, there is no way of predicting which ones will be effective for you, only you will be able to make that determination.

To your question "...which is the better approach for a fairly new guy like myself should I continue with the basic instructions that I started with or throw in a few do nothing approaches and see what happens, and see where my mind and body take me.", I would answer YES, as 'rook' said

My advice is basically this - With an adventurous attitude, playfully experiment with interesting techniques following the pleasure path of your own results.
