concerned about a possible prostatitis, plz help

-titis means inflamation, and I don't think an inflamed prostate sounds like what you have. I could be wrong. One time I thought I had it because of painful and itchy urination, but it turned out to be a bladder infection, I don't know how I got, which was treated with a 19 day dose of generic anti-biotic (one of those 2 or 4 dollar prescriptions at WalMart and Walgreens, etc.) There are usually hospitals that have to take patients in the ER even if they don't have insurance. I don't know about urgent care places. I don't know about E Coli infection, and why you think it is that. I know a guy who used to frequently get bladder infection from wiping his penis in the shower after he had wiped his ass. Once he started drying front first and then back he stopped getting it. A urine test will show up bladder infection.

You don't mention what you did that you think was stupid. I don't see how the prostate could be infected by E Coli, but my knowledge of the interior anatomy is not great.

it is a sad state of america that somebody like you is coming to a forum to seek medical advice. does your college have a student health service?

your symptoms don't sound like prostatitis to me, except maybe the itchiness. is your urine brownish (ie, has blood)? dark urine can be from lack of hydration. drink more. i never heard of prostatitis effecting semen color or volumne or sex drive. if you have an acute infection of the prostate it is probably curable with antibiotics.

what did you do that you think caused this?

Usually with acute prostatitis you feel quite ill and have a fever and discomfort to the prostate and/or lower back area. Your not mentioning these symptoms makes me wonder if you truly have this. I would recommend being seen by a doctor but the antibiotics used for treatment of acute prostatis are usually quite cheap and having a case of acute prostatis and being correctly treated for it should leave no residual or permanent complications or problems.

Very sorry you are suffering these symptoms. I have had bouts of prostatitis at times since my teens and antibiotics has been the usual response and cure. I agree with darwin, slimjim, and the others about your symptoms not necessarily indicating prostatitis, and get to a doctor indeed.

Last bout I had, BA (Before Aneros) took three months on strong antibiotic to eliminate! Have not had any prostatitis since beginning regular Aneros BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia) therapy sessions over 5 years ago. Nor do I have to get up at night to pee 3-4 times each night any more!!!

Get to the doctor.

YOU'RE MARRIED AND WITHOUT HEALTH INSURANCE!!!?! Man, that's like playing Russian Roulette with a semi-automatic! We had a late period scare right after we were married, and even though it's expensive, we got major medical insurance right away, because we thought having a baby was expensive 27 years ago; I can't imagine how expensive it can be today! I can't urge you strongly enough to do whatever it takes to get some health insurance; we did it when we were going to college as well, so I know it can be done. You just have to cut back on the expensive luxuries, like eating out, smoking (if you do; man, that's real expensive these days), going to bars, drinking in general, going out to movies, buying the expensive food (anything more expensive than ramen noodles, the staple of college kids and other such broke people the world over), etc. About the only splurge you can afford is birth control; it does double duty as part of your "personal entertainment", which makes life much more fun.

As the others have said, get yourself to a clinic or something, and get on an antibiotic program as soon as possible. Oh, and kudos on being married; there's nothing like building a long-lasting marriage like starting out poor together and building on that together.

Don't torture yourself with worry. Get to a doctor. It may be relatively simple. I had prostatitis last year, with painful urination and ejaculation, pain in my thigh and groin, and blood in my urine. six weeks of Bactrim knocked it out.

Hey guys, thanks for the response. Yeah, I am thinking I will start by making an appointment with the college health center because they can treat urinary infactions... which may be part of my ailment actually, based on what you guys have said and what I found on google.

As for my stupid move? I'm embarrassed to say, but oh well here it goes: I injected my penis with water with a syringe that was not disinfected properly that had some anal usage. I was conducting a bit of a sexual expiriment.........I'll stop the explanation there. 🙂 In my defense, the syringe wasn't used for anal purposes for a long time... I think the problem was that it sits next to my aneros...

In that case it could even be cystitis. As others have said, hie thee to a physician.

Many patients with urinary retention and that have to self catheterize throughout the day simply use cleanly washed re-used catheters. The key here is cleanly washed and used only for that purpose though. That having been said, I still think at most you may have only caused a simple cystitis with or without a mild prostatitis both of which can be easily treated with an effective and inexpensive antibiotic. See the doctor and get started with the treatment.

Sooo... went to "Urgent Care" (one step below emergency / hospital), total visit was $180 (not bad for not having insurance) and prescription was $21. Part of the $180 was to send my urine sample in for testing to make sure there's nothing additionally wrong. Doctor thinks I may have all 3 infections from E Coli: bladdar, kidney, and prostate. So I'm on Ciprofloxacin, 2 pills a day for 7 days, which is an antibiotic that should take care of all of it at once.

Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) Cannot be ignored, it will become a kidney infection and that is life threatening. So, kidney pain feels like lower back muscle pain, but for me the pain crept in slowly and after a while you just can't shove it off as muscle pain. I feel like it's definitely concentrated in the kidney area of the body. Also, cloudy urine indicates blood (or retro ejac, lol), and I definitely had watery-red drops right after a urination. So if you see consistent cloudy urine or blood, definitely get care immediately! At this point it isn't life threatening, but you definitely don't want to mess around with your kidneys.

So thankfully I have yet to experience any of the crazy symptoms like vomitting, fever, chills, and the kidney pain is not intense. Sooo, I hope that I'll be alright in the end. Just wanted to post this just in case there are others who have concerns.

I just about felt better after my last few pills so I called to have a refill. Doctor upped the dosage for another 7 days and it looks like I'm totally cured. Just came on to put a closing on this thread.

The way I think one can tell the difference between kidney and muscle pain is:


Kidney pain is continuous and throbbing.
Muscle pain is felt sporadically with movements or body positions.
