Breathing pattern is a distraction

First of all, I'd like to thank everyone who writes to this forum for their very useful posts. You have helped lots of people and saved us from having to re-invent the wheel.

I've been using an MGX stimulator for about 10 sessions now while carefully trying to follow the protocols that I've read about here in the forum and in the instructions. I have experienced the beginnings of the pleasure sensations that others have described but have been unable to expand those sensations into something all encompassing. I'm patient and in no rush and I know enough about meditation to recognize that much of what I'm encountering is just my "busy mind" distracting me. I'll happily keep working on that and attempt to remain present with the sensations and let them develop.

My technical issue is this. I have seen several of you discuss using patterned breathing as a method of causing the sensations to increase but my experience is, so far, just the opposite. As I flex and relax the stimulator I'm getting the small nodes of pleasure (particularly on the release) that I've seen reported. I very much try to focus on them and let them develop into something larger. I occasionally get that result. When I try to implement a formulaic breathing pattern of any kind, however, I find that all sensation in my perineum goes away. Once I get that little pleasure node sensation I find myself holding my breath and kind of pushing and pulling and relaxing my mind (awkward description, but best I can come up with) around the sensation. If I try to apply rhythmic breathing the node just goes away and I feel nothing in my pelvis.

So, should I continue with what I'm doing or would it be worthwhile for me to just do several sessions with rhythmic breathing until the pelvic sensations develop around the proper breathing technique?

I also have a really hard time doing breathing exercises while using the Aneros. I find that when I breathe, I lose all concentration on the prostate area. I dunno, maybe I'm just concentrating too much. I think I need to learn some major coordination. Any other thoughts?

Best Wishes,

Inquisit,

Recently I posted elsewhere about the necessity of not becoming too cognitively engaged with one's Aneros sessions, that is thinking about it too much . Yes, you can definitely over think this. This forum and the manufacturer's section are full of instructions and techniques. It's very easy to get wrapped in the process rather than allowing things to unfold on their own. I strongly believe that the newbie is better served by a process of subtle encouragement and exploration rather than any strictly applied methodology. Certainly there are many techniques contained here that will be helpful to you in the long run, but remember to experiment with them in a subtle way rather than work them explicitly.

Regarding your breathing, if your having some success without any rhythmic breathing don't focus on this as much. This forum is testimony to the fact that there are different paths to the Super O. So I say for the time being, stay with what is working for you. There may come a time when you ready to add this element back.

Just an aside, have you experienced a type of breathing, as a result of something tremendously exciting (not necessarily sexual) that was almost like panting ? If so, you've experienced a variety of the kind of the kind of breathing that I call rhythmic. In the future you might want to explore this type breathing in a more natural way. That is, allow this breathing to emerge as a direct result of your arousal (from your other techniques). Again, not so much in an artificial way, (so many inhalations to this many exhalations) but as a natural and somewhat random response to the other techniques that are already working for you. Let it flow from your arousal! Tell yourself that your getting excited! See where all of this takes you.

Ah. Yes. This goes to the heart of the issue.

I have been intuitively/instinctively doing some breathwork that synchronizes with the sensations that I'm experiencing but it's certainly not any kind of constant rhythmic consistent pattern. Choppy breaths and varies as the sensations move. That has been having some interesting effect.

To re-frame my question now that you have made this distinction -- are any of you getting sensation effects when you use your breathing to drive the experience or are you using your breath to complement the sensations that you are feeling?

Thanks for re-stating the premise that I should just let the experience happen. It's hard to do that.

Inquisit,

Great question! The answer is all of the above. Breathing can be used to generate sensation and to support and strengthen it. And yes you must experiment and explore in a somewhat non-directed way for a while. The reason for this is that the Super O and the manner for achieving are totally different from anything else that you've ever experienced. Unfortunately, our tendency will be to go with what we know and are familiar with, and ignore the rest.

In this arena, for the most part, one must ignore what you are familiar with and explore the rest. Yes, this can be difficult at first. This is one reason that I've always told people to frame it in a different way in their minds. To see this as a sensual journey, one without expectation. Save the expectation for the penile orgasm, you know it's there, you know how to achieve it. This journey is about finding new and different sensations. Sensations deep inside your body. Where your typical ejaculation is focused on your penis, the non-ejaculatory experience may be felt in your abdomen, anus, prostate, perineum, rectum, radiating to all part of your body. Look for the subtle sensations that may generate by breath, and contractions of the anus, rectum and abdomen. Use mental focus and visualization to sharpen and connect. Mix it up and see what happens.

You have an excellent way with words. I completely understand what you are saying and will proceed accordingly. I'm already getting glimmers -- it's a matter of developing them or allowing them to develop.

Thanks!
