Hi there
Maybe the question has been asked already. I was wondering if rewiring could be reversible. It took me a year to get here, and wouldn't enjoy coming back to the ancient world.

IMHO, Yes and No. No, just as you can't unring a bell nor can you regain your virginity, in that sense it is not reversible, once one learns something it is never totally lost, like learning to ride a bike. Yes, in the sense that like most learned behaviors, new behaviors can be learned which will, in effect, overwrite older learned patterns. Aversion therapy is also an example of altering behavior by rewriting neural programming (or 'rewiring' as we call it here). Disuse/abandonment of repetitive practice will also lead to diminishing learned skills.

Probably the best way to retain your acquired learning is to keep repeating the behavior, this continually reinforces and adds to the neural pathways you've already created. Repetition (practice, practice, practice) is a classic strategy for maintaining and improving almost any skill set.
Here are a couple of documentary movies you might enjoy watching which address the neuroplasticity of the brain.
1.) The Plastic Fantastic Brain: Rewiring the Mind
2.) The Brain that Changes Itself
3.) Automatic Brain: The Magic of the Unconscious Mind

Good Vibes to You !

Thank you so much Rumel for taking time to explain so clearly the mysteries of our brain.
Well, instead of studying brain plasticity, I’d rather practice, practice, practice.
