I use a variety of lubes during session but I have never used Liquid Platinum solo. Does anyone have any experience with this lube? Also, I read pros and cons on the use of petroleum jelly as a toy lube. Any thoughts anyone? Thanks!

goldenboy,

There have been many discussions on the Forum about lubrication types and issues. Next to discussions about the Super-O, lubrication is probably the next most discussed topic. I recommend you read the Lubrication paragraph in the Getting Started chapter of the Aneros WIKI and then read through the Bestlube..., Need Help with lube choice, coconut oil, Coconut Oil and Unrefined shea butter..., threads for additional information and insight into this topic.

READ THE LABEL. From the article Seven Ingredients to Avoid in Your Sexual Lubricants
"For starters, here’s a short list of some chemicals and ingredients to avoid in your sexual lubricant:

1. Petroleum or petroleum-based ingredients. These can coat your skin and interfere with its normal functions and permeability. They may also contain impurities with possible links to various health conditions, including cancer. Petroleum-based ingredients can be found in many common multipurpose lubricants, such as petroleum jelly.
2. Parabens. These synthetic preservatives, which can mimic the effects of estrogen in your tissues, may have links to higher risk of breast cancer.
3. Phenoxyethanol. According to the Environmental Working Group, this chemical is moderately hazardous, with possible links to skin irritation and toxicity. High concentrations have been associated with reproductive damage, depressed immunity, and reduced nervous system function in newborns.
4. Silicone-based ingredients. These may have toxic effects, and may also coat your skin, affecting its normal functioning much as petroleum-based ingredients do. Package labels may use a variety of names for silicone-based compounds, such as methyl polysiloxane and dimethicone, to name a few.
5. Propylene glycol. This potentially toxic ingredient may cause some women to experience tissue irritation. Propylene glycol is found in some frequently used over-the-counter lubricants–as well as some types of antifreeze.
6. Glycerin. A form of sugar, glycerine may increase incidence of candida, which can result in vaginal yeast infections in women susceptible to them.
7. Chlorhexidine. Commonly found in some multipurpose lubricants, this ingredient can trigger irritation and toxic effects for some women."

Most commercially prepared personal lubricants contain glycerin which has laxative effects and depending on the sensitivity of the individual, may cause the dreaded "urge to purge" syndrome cutting short one's Anerosession. However, other individuals seem to be unaffected by the small amounts of glycerin in these lubricants. In any event, glycerin (whether naturally or synthetically derived) is but one of many chemical constituents in these lubes.

I use a variety of lubes during session but I have never used Liquid Platinum solo. Does anyone have any experience with this lube?

I have not personally used 'Wet Platinum' but have tried a couple of other silicone based lubes. The newer silicone based lubes such as 'Wet Platinum' (ingredients: Dimethicone, Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethiconol, Phenyl Trimethicone) do not have a long history of usage but there does not seem to be any indication of negative health effects from their use to date. The main drawback to silicone based lubes is their tendency to degrade silicone sex toys, as such they are not recommended to be used with the Aneros VICE, DeVice or EVI models.

As far as I know there have been no long term studies of the health effects of commercially prepared or natural personal lubricants. Because of the frequency and duration of Anerosessions the use of commercial personal lubricants has become a subject of concern for a number of Forum members due to the repeated exposure to the chemical constituents contained in these products and their long term health effects. Many members have chosen to seek out more natural lubricants in hopes of ameliorating any long term negative effects.

There are many choices for natural lubrication, it is more a matter of personal preference which particular lube you choose to use. Olive, coconut, walnut and almond oils are all popular alternative natural lube choices, shea butter is another popular natural lubricant. These natural lubricants do not contain glycerin. The rectal wall is a highly permeable membrane, easily absorbing water and the chemicals therein. While natural oil lubes do get absorbed like water based lubes, the absorption rate is slower and as the viscosity of the oil increases, the absorption rate decreases. Hence lighter weight (low viscosity) oils like grape seed and olive oil will be more readily absorbed and disperse more rapidly than heavier oils (higher viscosity) like almond oil or canola oil.

Also, I read pros and cons on the use of petroleum jelly as a toy lube. Any thoughts anyone?

Personally, I am concerned about the uptake of the various chemicals in commercial 'personal lubricants'. Since I've developed a sensitivity to the glycerin found in many of the commercial lubricants, I've switched to using natural oil based lubricants such as a 50%-50% mixture of almond oil and shea butter or a 67% coconut oil - 33% shea butter mixture or (as a substitute for petroleum jelly) the 'Natural Jelly' formulation. These compounds are safe for use with both the plastic and silicone Aneros models. Good Vibes to You !

I started using water based KY-liquid (generic-brand) and I get the "urge to purge" like was mentioned above.

I was pre-lubing with regular water based KY jelly (generic-brand) and was having no issues at all with it.

Are the liquid type lubes more likely to cause the "urge to purge?"

I tried using a small amount of liquid along with the ky jelly and this combination seems to work well with no bad reactions; Anyone shed some light of that?

@goldenboy I'm really interested in hearing your opinion on it. Keep us posted please. I tried Pure Virgin Olive Oil and it works too. I'm using less than I do with water based lube and it dosen't dry out. Good luck!

BTW, GREAT response @rumel ! Thanks for your wisdom.

Sorry guys, I just had an opportunity to try coconut oil. In a word: NO! I attempted a short session with my PS-NEW and coconut oil. I cooled-down the stim in the freezer and applied the (solid) oil. Well, I attempted insertion but could only get it in about half-way. I didn't want to risk a full insertion. And by the way, coconut oil STAINS! What looks like water is actually oil! Even if it is okay as a penile edging/bate lube, I don't think the drawbacks are worth the trouble. Maybe combining it with something else might work better but I'm not enthused. Just my opinion......

Interesting goldenboy. I tried coconut oil as well and found that it lacked the lubricity needed. It just wasn't slippery enough to get the job done.

i have been using a mixture of shea butter and coconut oil for years and it does a great job. I mix half and half in a cup in microwave then pour in a large straw with one end tapped closed put in freezer then take and cut the length I need and put the rest back in freezer .

So I recently have gotten my hands on all natural and organic shea butter, coconut oil, and beeswax. So I want a thicker lubricant with the beeswax to coat my aneros to make sure its not all squeegeed off when inserted. Then I want a slightly lighter solution to prelube or inject and also wont dry quickly. So, anyone got any ideas on the ratios I should use? Also, if I do this today Ill let everyone know how it goes!

@goldenboy thanks for sharing your experience with coconut oil. I won't buy any. I alternate between water based liquid (2.5 to 3 CC) and extra virgin olive oil (.8 CC). The water based lube has glycerin which is a laxative; gives my gas sometimes . I'm leaning more and more to the latter but I always use water based gell on the massager.

@GGringo, I like Slippery Stuff Gel: It's super thick, super slippery, super long lasting, and been tested anal safe. I inject it into my anus and put a thin coat of Vaseline on the Aneros. That way, it stays slippery for a long, long time.

@Badger once I'm done with my supply of K-Y liquid, I will stick to my olive oil or try the K-Y jell. How do you insert it?

I may try some glycerin-free Slippery Stuff as well; The KY liquid (off brand) I have been using sometimes upsets my gut and gives me gas.

You mentioned you use the gel; have you tried the liquid?

It's strange that the KY gel never gives me gassy side effects, and the liquid does(sometimes badly). I will be trying the Slippery Stuff liquid and will post the results.
