A Question for Aneros Users over the age of 50--Transurethral needle ablation (TUNA)

I am considering the TUNA procedure for an enlarged prostate and was wondering if any Aneros users have undergone this procedure. For those who don't know what it is, I'm including the following brief description:
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Transurethral needle ablation (TUNA) is an outpatient procedure to
treat urinary symptoms caused by an enlarged prostate, a condition known
as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). This procedure is also called
radiofrequency ablation or RF therapy.

During TUNA, a specially adapted visual instrument (cystoscope) is
inserted through the tip of your penis into the tube that carries urine
from your bladder (urethra). Using the cystoscope, your doctor guides a
pair of tiny needles into the prostate tissue that is pressing on the
urethra. Then radio waves are passed through the needles to create scar
tissue. This scarring shrinks prostate tissue, opening up the urinary
channel so that urine can flow more easily.

Yes, I know-- It sounds abysmal. But my urologist tells me that it has been an effective treatment which will result in a stronger urine flow, and eliminate or greatly reduce those trips to the bathroom in the middle of the night. So if anyone has any knowledge or experience with this treatment and would like to share their thoughts-- positive or negative -- I'd certainly appreciate it.

One of my main concerns is the effect that it may have on sexual response. And whether or not it would affect the ability to achieve the Super-O when using Aneros. For everyone's information, I have been using the Aneros for over three years: The Helix, Progasm, Maximus, and Eupho). After three years and countless hours reading and studying these message boards for tips and technique, I haven't even come close to achieving the Super-O. It's been pleasurable, and it enhances the conventional method of masturbation, but the Super-O or even the P-waves as they're called, remain elusive.

Thanks for reading this.

@Francesco,
I was fortunate that the Aneros use has enable a better flow. I can go all night with not having to get up. I also learnt to relax the prostate during sex. I do have BPH. It is most unfortunate that most, if not all, specialists have a very narrow view of the world. Urologists especially overlook that the prostate has a body following it! It would be good if your urologist could make it clear what happens, and how much of the prostate is knock out and if any nerves are damaged. It appears that the nerves are the crucial thing. From what is written in the Forum I conclude it is the pressure on the nerves at the back of the prostate that trigger the response. Some radical prostate procedures cut those nerves and this would suggest the subsequent problems of so many men who were give no warning of the consequences. With your procedure it suggests that the nerve damage would avoided. I am not medically trained. I wish you every good fortune.

Were I considering a TUNA procedure I might ask:

1. What relief can I expect from a TUNA ? What adverse effects might I experience ?

2. How does this compare to conventional (surgical) TURP? With a Green Laser TURP ?

3. How long will my BPH symptoms be relieved with each of the three procedures ?

4. Which procedure will cause the least nerve damage ?

5. How often do your patients for each of these procedures complain of retrograde ejaculation ?

6. Finally, if the bph symptoms recurr following the TUNA, how frequently will my insurance pay for another ?

1.5 years ago I got a TURP, which is a more radical version of a TUNA. In my case, my bladder issues were not age related, but bladder neck problems I had since I was in my twenties.

After the initial recovery, it had no impact on my Aneros use.

And now, after a year, the only impact is retrograde ejaculation, which is guaranteed in a TURP, and likely in a TUNA. I have gotten used to that, and it has no actual impact in my sexual response. I don't miss the feeling of the fluid coming out particularly, and my orgasms feel the same to me. It has the benefit of no clean up! This is a personal matter though, and RE might impact you more.

Initially, for the first six months or more, when I had a traditional orgasm, i had pain and discomfort, and it felt weird. I was quite worried, but that all settled down with time (I had read on the web that it would), as my body got used to the change inside me. It was good that I had the alternative of aneros-style orgasms to get me through that period.

The TURP radically improved my bladder function. I can't believe I waited so long. I now never think about my bladder, and pee like a teenager, as opposed to waking up multiple times a night, etc. The TURP was a godsend.

I had a TURP last October after putting it off too long and ending up in the ER. After about six to seven weeks I was feeling pretty normal again. The results have been great and have helped me to live a normal life again. The other benefit was being able to test the removed material for cancer. I have very high PSA values that has caused cancer concerns for ten years. Even after two biopsies we weren't sure. After the TURP we are reasonably confident there is no cancer.

I think my regular orgasms have changed a little. The build up takes longer and the climax is less explosive, but lasts longer. Prostate and anal orgasms are unaffected. I am very pleased, and very thankful for a skilled surgeon.

Good luck!
