You should incorporate some stretching in your foreplay. That's one of the things buttplugs where originally designed for. You may do this in 2 or even 3 steps in which you increase the diameter of the plugs / toys. A few minutes with each toy is good enough. The more you practice the better your body gets used to the routine and relaxes faster.

The "second inner sphincter" is made of smooth muscle, meaning that you can't relax it at will. It only reacts to constant pressure... from the inside. Think of your anal canal as an airlock with two doors. The inner door is there to let you know that somthing wants out. That's how you know, that you have to go to the toilet. The inner sphincter relaxes after a while when something pushes against it, so that you have to hold in consciously with your outer sphincter. The longer you wait, the more the inner sphincter relaxes and won't help you with the task, so the more "effort" is needed to keep your dignity in public.

Fun fact: your anal canal does not only consists of two sphincters, but rather five. But that's for another time.

Also: Dildos !

Since you and your wife seem to plan to make this a habit, you should spend some time and money on quality toys. There are vast differences in quality and suitability.

Rules of thumb for a good experience:

• the bigger -> the softer
• the more texture -> the softer
• you get the idea, softer the better - most vanilla sex shop dildos are too firm for anal play imo
• the softer -> more difficulte to actually thrust the thing due to their floppiness :/
• the golden solution for that is dual density -> firm core, soft outer layer
• avoid PVC and Jelly at all costs, silicone should be your standard option
• a good dildo may cost you between 50-100$, but it will last, so it's a worthy investment

Instead of warming up with plugs you can also work your way up with diffently sized dildos. A very good and inexpensive line I can personally recommend is from Blush:

• small: Ergo mini (fantastic - this thing is the Eupho of Dildos)
• mid: Ergo & Helio
• big: Suko
• realistic: Neo Elite (fantastic - I envy the man the mould was casted from)
