Why isn't Vaseline your primary lubricant?

The reason why people dont like vaseline (i think it) is because it's petrolium based. Yea, it's one of the million things that comes from that black icky thing called crude oil, and some users wonders about the health aspect of using petroliumbased lubricants up your ass. The thing with the rectal wall is that it is designed to absorb nutrients from the solutions contained within (that's how we get food into our system), so pretty much anything you stuck up there will end up in your bloodstream, and some users prefer to use products thats not petrolium or silica based, others dont mind as much. A number of users DO use Vaseline petroleum jelly as their personal lubricant and I have not read any reports alleging negative consequences from such use. However, as has often been discussed on this Forum, Aneros owners are a unique collection of users who are taking in these various compounds for prolonged periods of time on a regular basis. As far as I know such usage has not been scientifically studied hence our concern for long term health effects. As an alternative to Vaseline, I personally use Natural Jelly, not only for its all natural ingredients but also for the ability to easily adjust the viscosity of the mix to my desired consistency.

I can understand why you found such a profound difference in performance going from flax seed lube to vaseline. I found the flax seed lube nice in texture, but a real failure in how quickly it dries externally on the anus and gets absorbed internally. I don't use petroleum based lubes for the very reasons mentioned by cyrez and rumel. What I use is unrefined 100% shea butter that is pale yellow to white in color (This is a natural plant based oil). Reference the main shea butter thread if you are unfamiliar with this.

This has been my primary lube for many years now. And I suspect it performs very similarly to natural jelly and vaseline. When melted at body temperature, it's consistency is like a heavy oil. And there is never a need to re-lube as it does not dry out.

What you use for lube just depends on your beliefs, and how what you have tried performs. So the whole lube subject tends to be quite individual like in what people choose to use.

I started with KY, moved to astroglide, tried some silicone based and water based lubes and finally settled in with Vaseline. I'm curious about Shea Butter and Abalone but not enough that I have tried them yet.

Perhaps a mix of using a condom to contain the vaseline and a natural lube on the outside would make a safe mixture of lubrication.

Using a oil based product during intercouse is a really bad idea, it coats the whole vagina with a thin layer of oil, that can disrupt the very delicate pH-balance of the area. This can easily make the area more susceptible to yeast infections, which are incredibly uncomfortable, itchy, and painful.

While shea is wonderful anally, it can cause lots of problems for your significant other if used during intercourse

session length suitable for Aneros + latex condom + vaseline = shreaded condom and some discomfort! Might work with a polyisoprene or polyurethane condom.

I used to use Vaseline on the Aneros, which kept it slippery and very easy to clean, but I noticed that if I had many overnighters, that apparently, the mucus glands in the anus wouldn't produce much, if any mucus, and it would take for-ev-er to wipe myself clean after a BM. Seriously, on those small rolls of TP, it would take 1/4 - 1/3 of a roll of TP before I'd be clean, using 3-sheets at a time. It was tedious as well as tiresome, not to mention what all that wiping would do to my butt. So now I just use my Slippery Stuff Gel on everything, and it's all good.

Does vaseline make you want to go to bathroom as well?

My adversity to Vaseline is that it's not safe to use with condoms for "regular" sex. I can never get that out of my head.

One of my favorite lubes,which interestingly I haven't heard any mention of on the forum is my own pre-cum.Luckily I produce alot of pre-cum when I get turned on,so all I do is spend about 10minutes looking at some porn or even just thinking about my upcomming session then I have produced more than enough pre-cum to lube my anus and the Aneros,It's very exciting using your own pre-cum as lube and also very effective.Even the progasm slides in easily when lubed with pre-cum.

Yep, most people (or at least me) only produce a few drips in a few hours, and encouraging people to try it is depressing because they know they can't... 🙁

BUT... I'm making progress in my journey, so I'm still happy! I also suspect that in the future I will learn the secret to producing lots of pre-cum.

i currently inject albolene using the syrninge that comes with baby ibuprofen. the syringe is oil-compatible and thin for easy insertion. holds about 2ml.

i am not so worried about albolene being petro based, as i don't think it will be absorbed in my rectum more than on the skin, and it has been in use on the skin forever.

on the other hand, my lube mantra has always been: if it ain't edible it ain't assable.

Ass a matter of fact, yes.

Good when I want something that will adhere to a short tool and avoid a pre-lube routine. Not for something like the Progasm unless it's a tool lube to accompany some pre-lube.

Originally suggested by our Urologist when we started with the Helix as a foreplay and intercourse toy. (As a newbie to Aneros, I had been over-lubing with K-Y and had caused my wife an e-coli infection when lube had worked its way down my balls and shaft.)

Crisco isn't my first choice of anal lube however, I use it with the Peridise or de-tailed SGX for foreplay, Tai Chi or yoga.

The melting point seems to be just above body temp so it's not 'runny' and it adheres to the surface texture of the Peridise and SGX.

OTOH, for pure anal fun with the Peridise, Crisco 'hides' some of the texture of the Peridise from my nerve endings -- Shea is my preference when I crave max sensation from the texture.

While there are some trans-fats from the hydrogenation of vegetable fats I figure I'm better off than with animal proteins or petro-carbons.

i have found it is easy to stuff a syringe full of a thick lube like vasoline or albolene by getting a fingertip full and pressing it in there. i much prefer that to coating, which loses most lube outside the door.

the first test i plan on giving crisco is an ol' hand-and-penis routine, to see how it lasts, and compare w/ the fabled albolene.

I think you know I use Vaseline coated with Walnut Oil. Vaseline by itself doesn't feel slippery enough for me. Vaseline doesn't seem to get absorbed; it's still there the next morning. The Walnut Oil does get absorbed, but it's good for you. 🙂
