Had my TURP done on Tues. 6-22 and things did not turn out exactly as expected. The doc released me in the afternoon and said the proceedure had gone well. "Go home and rest today, resume normal activities tomorrow" BULL!!!!!!!!!!!! 4:00 AM Wed I am in the Emergency Room, couldn't pee and my abdomen was hard as a rock, and I hurt like hell. Turns out I had a bunch of blood clots in my bladder and that caused the blockage. They put in a catheter and irrigated my bladder until 8:00 AM on Thursday. Went home Thurs morning feeling pretty good. That night I stayed in my recliner in front of the TV so I wouldn't bother my wife. Well.............I spent most of the night standing in front of the toilet trying to pee, but all I did was dribble. Long story short, today is Friday, I called the doc they had me come in, reinserted the catheter, and manually irrigated my bladder. Right now I feel pretty good. It is noon on Friday. We'll see how the weekend goes and update again in about a week.
how careful do they need to be when they stuff the catheter in? you might ask them if you can do it yourself at home.
anyway DOH! that is a typical medical experience. complications....

You are aware that the catheter is about 24" long and is inserted through your penis into your bladder, aren't you? NO WAY IN HELL would I do that myself. Even with a beautiful young lady doing it, it is not any fun.
So sorry to hear about all your post-op discomfort, big jimbo. I had a similar experience with my circumcision 7-8 years ago. The surgery seemed to go fine, but when we were almost home, we stopped to get the meds they prescribed. While waiting, I noticed a warm, wet sensation in my pants, so we went to her parents house nearby to use the bathroom and get a look. I pulled my pants down and my underwear was soaked with blood, and my penis was as fat as a spray can. I tried to pee, but when I tried to press the stream down, two streams of blood arched over the bowl and landed in the middle of the bathroom floor. I then knew something was not quite right, and my wife, who can gut any kind of game with alacrity, became squeamish. Called the urologist and had to make the 60 mile trip back to the hospital to be re-admitted. Some tests were made, and apparently, I ruptured a blood vessel in my penis while riding in the car, had a bleeder moment (which happens to me from time to time without rhyme nor reason), which filled the area around the penis with blood, and then I managed to tear some of the stitches trying to pee.
At the hospital, I tried to pee standing, sitting, but the only thing that I peed was blood from the stitches, so I begged them to put in a catheter, which I found to be almost pleasurable. I guess it was the relief of getting that urine out that made it feel so good, or maybe they used better lube when inserting the catheter, or maybe they used some lydocaine or something, but I never felt any discomfort when they inserted the catheter.
A few days after being released, I went back to the urologist because of the pain, and they expressed (squeezed) the black blood out of the area between my skin and penis. Things went much better after that; so much so, that he had me showing off how well it was healing to all the doctors and interns in his practice.
So I kind of understand where you are at, big jimbo, and may you be Blessed with quick healing from here on out with no more complications.
Best wishes also, big jimbo, on a speedy recovery. Sorry to hear of the complications.
One week later after my TURP surgery. Went to the urogolist today for a follow up visit. I am feeling pretty good and he released me with no restrictions. He said to go no about my normal routine, but did recommend not sitting on a bicycle seat for awhile. I think I would have figured that out, if I tried to ride a bicycle. He want to see me again in about 3-4 months.
Glad to hear the good news, big jimbo.
Almost four weeks since surgery, progressing well. Still a little blood in urine (Dr. said that will be normal for 6-8 weeks) I'm not ready to try Aneros yet. Going to try a 300 mile drive today in my RV. Got a "doughnut" to sit on, if the external pressure on the prostate becomes too much. The great news is, now I am peeing like a 15 year old instead of dribbling like a 65 year old. Am anxious, but not ready, to try sex yet. I can get an erection but am not quite sure I want to rush things too much.
Big Jimbo, thanks for the updates. All the best wishes. I was considering a TURP, and decided to hold off a few years, and stay on the flomax.
This is not an uncommon side effect from a TURP, it took 3 weeks of in and out with the catheter removal and having to go to the emergency room at night to be replaced. It is very dishartning to go through it like that. The last time they took it out I stayed up all night consumed large quanites of water and kept pissing. No problem after that. It's never like the Dr. explains it,
Update after almost seven weeks. Feeling good, still some burning when I pee, and when the feeling of needing to pee hits me, I have a litttle problem holding back until I can get to a bathroom. Sometimes I start to pee before I get to the toilet. All of these things are getting a little better each day.
As for the Aneros, I am not ready to insert anything in my ass, and will probably not do so for quite some time.
thanks very much for the update, and speedy recovery, big Jim

Congrats on the progress to date and the best of wishes for a complete recovery.
Might be cool to give the prostate and bladder-neck a rest and switch to a Perdise.. JM2CW
rook (new addict.)
Any news? I just scheduled myself for a microwave procedure on my prostate.
Sorry I forgot to get back with another update. Long story short is that everything is back to normal and I am glad I had it done. I went to the urologist last week and he said everything is OK and I should come back in one year for a checkup.
Good luck with yours and let us know how you do.
big jimbo-
how about aneros use?

Haven't tried it yet.
