I tried the aneros for the first time last week, and have been hesitant to try it again. I had no issues while using it (used it for about 20-30min), and found it somewhat pleasurable. About 30 minutes after, I felt a serious urge to have a bowel movement. Not to be real disgusting, but I want to explain it properly so I can get the appropriate answers that I need. It was semi solid and it came out in a hurry. I am 32 years of age, healthy, no history of problems with going to the bathroom. I usually have a bowel movement 2-3 tiems per day, which IS normal. The next day, I did not have a bowel movement AT ALL. The day after that, I was back to normal. Has anyone had this problem before? I haven't gone 24 hours without a bowel movement in I don't know how long, so it seems obvoius that using the aneros is the cause of this 24 hour constipation. Has anyone else had this problem? I was very disconcerted and have been hesitant to try it again, for fear of it happening again. Advice please?
Your explosion after the session may have been caused by glycerin in the lube - it effects some people that way. Look to see if the lube contained glycerin, and if so consider changing to one that doesn't.
The constipation may have been caused by you being emptied out so not needing to go again for while. Was it accompanied by any discomfort and bloating?
It sounds like you used a glycerin-based lube, like K-Y, Glide or such, which can cause a 'purge' effect to the bowels to those who are sensitive to glycerin. Due to the unscheduled B.M., it threw your whole digestive system out of whack, and should be going in another day or so, but it might take a week or two to get back into your regularly scheduled (B.M.) program. It wouldn't hurt to eat lots of fiber-rich foods and eat lots of yogurt until you get things back into the groove.
If glycerin is in the lube, try one that doesn't have it, like Slippery Stuff Gel, which is super thick and designed for extended exposure in the rectum.
I used KY liquid...i like the way it feels in my fleshlight, and it cleans up pretty well, so I thought it would be good for this. No discomfort or bloating....i mean, besides having a foreign object in my rectum (as a straight male, it was a completely new experience). I want to try it again, but that feeling was so disconcerting that I am a little gunshy.
specialR,
Welcome to the Forum,
As the other posters have stated, glycerin as a component of personal lubrications has been known to cause a laxative effect from use. There are numerous effective alternatives to glycerin containing lubes. There has been a continuing discussion on the Forum about lubrication types and issues. I recommend you first read the Lubrication paragraph in the Getting Started chapter of the Aneros WIKI and then read through the “Bestlube..." thread for additional information and insight into this topic.
Additionally, you should know the presence of the Aneros itself in the rectum may instigate the onset of peristaltic action of the colon which may lead to early defecation and thus upset your normal daily rythyms of bowel movements. As you become more experienced with your new massager this tendency will most likely abate. However, it is still a good idea to have had a normal bowel movement 1-2 hours prior to beginning an Anerosession.
gotcha. what about using a silicone based lube that has no glycerin? I assume the bowel problem would not reoccur?

Try abandoning your current lube. Shea Butter is a good alternative. Be sure to flush your anal cavity out with lukewarm water before insertion.
The timing of your loose, urgent bowel movement following your session in which you used a glycerin containing product is very typical of the laxative effect glycerin produces when introduced into the colon. I believe I recall a reference being made on this forum some number of months ago as to how far products like these lubricants can travel up the colon during an Aneros session, and evacuating as much of your colon as you did after that session simply emptied out ahead of time what you would have normally moved from your bowels during approximately the next 24 hours, hence the impression you were "constipated" which you were not--just empty. You might try a glycerin-free water soluble lubricant, but in my case at least, even in the absence of the glycerin, I get quite a laxative effect from these. There are many good suggestions for lubricants on the forum and you may be one of those that do better with non-water soluble lubricants, especially those containing glycerin. The only other explanation I can think of for what you observed is that I have heard of some guys using way too large an enema beforehand, and instead of flushing just their rectum they promoted a laxative-like cleansing of a large part of their colon. If you're one of those who normally has a bowel movement 2 to 3 times a day, your rectum may already be sufficiently empty for a session without using an enema beforehand. Many guys, myself included, don't.

Welcome specialR,
Sorry about your experience with the misbehaving colon. Early-on, I went through an extended bout of bowel issues with glycerin so understand your plight. Unlike your prompt mention of the issue here, I tended to ignore it so suffered needlessly. As you can see from the above posts you've got a good cheering section here with a wealth of experience.
Rumel's suggestion to read the wiki on lubes is worth heeding. This topic is fraught with some preferential extremes and you'll find plenty to choose from in this Forum. Some guys are adamant about their lube preference. Others, "don't give a shit" 😆
At this point in your Aneros experience, a lube that's simple, non-irritating and easy to clean up is important. SlipperyStuff-GEL, blue-label, meets that requirement and is easy to travel with if you put it in checked luggage.
If you've got some silicone lube on-hand, give it a try. Butt, you might consider something that's either water soluble or bio-degradable for long-term use.
I found myself with a similar situation after my first experience with the Aneros. I used a new brand of lube (as I generally use an oil-based lube for the sake of larger toys), and instead went through the motions with a glycerin based lube. This was a mistake for me.
1) I smoke.
2) I chew Xylitol chewing gum between every cigarette and every time I consume food or drink a sugary beverage, coffee, or tea (which are all a massive vice of mine), and 3) I have a sensitive digestive system in the first place.
Nicotine, Xylitol, and Artificial sweeteners are all natural laxatives. This in combination with the glycerin in the lube was an after effect of the session that was less than pleasurable. Mild cramping + natural consequences of the laxative were definitely not something I want to repeat on what will likely blossom into a nightly activity.
I think I'll be switching to Shea Butter tomorrow. Note to the inexperienced: Lotions may say they HAVE shea butter, but beware. Do not use most lotions, as the primary ingredients in most of these is glycerin, acids, and fragrances that will cause discomfort. Don't buy the wrong thing out of embarrassment, or thinking that nobody will suspect what it's for. Just make the usual grocery run, throw it in the basket, and run it down the lane. Nobody cares what you buy. I used to be a cashier at a grocer, before I got edumacated, and never once did it cross my mind what someone was actually buying. I recall several enemas, but I can't say I even stopped to think about it for a moment more than: "Oh boy! Colon cleaning". So seriously, don't settle for anything other than EXACTLY what is best for YOU. Educate yourself; empower yourself.
