Despite using computers for 30 years at work I am still not very good with them.
Anybody remember typing DOS commands, and punch cards, punch paper tape ?

OT - 1962: Burroughs B100, Tape I/O. Flexowriter hardcopy, drum memory. Vacuum tube flip-flops. We had it all.

Real men didn't use an assembler. Compilers & Hollerith cards were 'just around the corner.' What's DOS? 🙂

rikaaim,
If you choose the “Go Advanced” button below the “Quick Reply” editing box. It will take you to another editing box with all the functionality of the previous Forum. Just look to the bottom right of this new edit box and there is a “Preview Post” button for you.

Sorry for such a long delay [COLOR="#ff0000"]Rumel. I did find the preview post section. It also seems that CTRL key combinations work as well. such as CTRL [COLOR="#f4a460"]B and CTRL [COLOR="#ff00ff"]I. I will have to look into the tags that you mentioned more. Overall, I think the problems are getting fixed. I had an issue with [COLOR="#48d1cc"]Login not showing up, but now there is a section for that too.

As for the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", maybe it wasn't broke, but perhaps it was severely bent. I think the new forum, once fully debugged and operational, will attract new members and also be able to maintain expansion better. Only time will tell.

DOS = Disk Operating System or something like that.

It has taken me 19 minutes to log on here tonight and to reach the Forum.
You call this progress.
It is like taking Concord out of service.
What on earth is going on.
Who are V Bulletin? not VERY GOOD.

Tried to insert an image into an advanced post. Opted to source it from "Computer." Selected and Uploaded the file (a gif) and noted that the whole path from root appeared in the window. Including my first name, last name and computer name on my home LAN. I aborted the post and took a deep breath.

Suggestion: How about changing image loads into the advanced editor to source only from an album.
That would allow us to "buffer" material through the album in our profile.

It doesn't seem to do a very good job of considering a thread as being read, even after checking the "Mark This Forum Read" under the forum tools tab at the upper right of the General Discussion Forum, above the Last Post By header. And the View First Unread tab at the top of the thread column doesn't work very well or very fast, either. Loading the forums is very slow as well.

What gives? Can Support help us out on this?

Update: The automatic login quit this evening, after it was working this morning.

Hello Folks, 🙂

Please be advised that your forum settings may have been changed once again. I ended up getting a bunch of notifications in my e-mail account today for private messages sent to me. Which I never have e-mails sent to me by default for privacy reasons. The following was enabled which I normally have disabled:

Receive Email from Administrators

Receive Email Notification of New Private Messages

Show New Private Message Notification Pop-up

Yup, looks like some of this reverted back to a week ago. However, look on the bright side! We probably needed the practice in maintaining our profiles and settings...

Practice makes perfect! 😀 LOL

In addition, I just lost a good half hours work of posting a reply to a thread for a newbie. After making modifications and previewing the post, it finally told me that I could not post as there were too many images in the post. And yet, there were none in there!!! Grrrrrr!!

I still can't upload an avatar. I know it was a blatant ripoff from the Aneros site but I'd still like to use it. How come everyone else can use avatars? Is there some forum trick I'm not aware of? 🙁

Something else that has happened.
If I search for the Aneros Forum using Google as I always have done I now get a HTTP 404 error.
It never happened before with the old forum.
If I search using Google Chrome it opens up the forum no problem.
Strange but true.

I now see that I joined the Forum in Jan 1970.
It says so on my last post.
I should be some sort of expert by now.
Alas no.

I think it's related to quantity or frequency of posts, not longevity, maturity or quality of content. Sorry 'bout that. 🙁

Late edit:

Hey Voyager ... cool comment

sorry I wasn't thinking about what I was seeing -- and missed your wry humor 8) . Looks as though the 'join dates' for everyone got 'zeroed out.' rather strange selection of a base date. wonder how vBulletin picked that.

I have been having the same problem for days. I haven't been able to get on the site for the last few days.
my browser would open the site and it would immediatly go to the same error message.
this is the first time I have been able to get on and I did it by replying to your message in my email
hope that problem is fixed. I don't like going through the day without my forumn fix

On one my PC Microsoft Internet Explorer and this site are not friends - The Home page aneros.com is OK but on enetering the forum I get Error 404. Google Chrome and Morzilla Firefox work OK

This I cannot reproduce this error on my laptop - all three IE work OK with this site

Due to court cases between Microsoft and most everyone else in the business, script support in IE was changed in both I.E. and XP. Some of this 'jitter' occurred on specific dates or by 'service-pack' rather than by version number.

Since the implementation of vBulletin I've seen both the rendering and navigation issues with IE on menus supported by Javascript. While this is certainly frustrating to unregistered newcomers (aka potential customers) to the Aneros site, I think support has bigger fish to fry. Alternative code to support IE wouldn't be at the top of my list of things-to-do-today.

The feature set seems to be changing every couple of days and, until there is a stable configuration it will be difficult to stomp out all the small brushfires. Personally, login and authentication is a major annoyance since that affects navigation, forum presentation, mail etc.

My workaround: Always login as soon as entering the Forum and stay logged in. Trying to visit the forum as a 'guest' than deciding to login to draft a response is an invitation to session death or loss of one's text. (sure it's a self inflicted wound but it's maddening)

For the time being, FF and Chrome are doing a good job.

For the last few days, I could not access the forum at all, but after a few emails to support, and they apparently fixed the problem, at least for me.

whatever the problem was, it seems corrected now. It must have been an issue on the aneros end as I didn't change anything on my end. I just assumed it was another bug with the new forumn
I'm happy to have this resolved

The "View First Unread" tab at the top of the page still doesn't work; it seems to be about 5 days behind. Also, clicking on the "Mark this Forum as Read" tab still doesn't work very well; the next time I'm on the page, especially after restarting the computer, it still lists things I read a few days ago as unread.

Can anybody help?

Hi Deep, in regard to your probs loading an avatar, make sure it isn't too big. I cannot remember seeing a reminder when I reloaded mine after the changes, but originally the max size was I think about 80x80 pixels and 49kb, or there abouts.

Well, after several days of being unable to get onto this forum, I switched to Firefox from IE, and it loads so much better. Still a little slower than it used to be.

I can't even get to the upload stage, I have no option in my control panel to upload an avatar. I'm curious who else might have this problem too.

Deep

I also do not appear to have an option to set an avatar. FAQ says the option is at the decision of the Administrator. Suggest you email @aneros.com">support@aneros.com.

Deep,

When the new Forum debuted, there was an “Edit Avatar” option just under “Edit Profile Picture” in the “My Settings” portion of “My Profile”. I took advantage of that option at the time and uploaded my avatar, as I guess some other members did as well. Subsequently that option has been withdrawn but I don't know the reason why, perhaps it has to do with some bug conflicts. I believe support is aware of the desire of members to upload their personal avatars and is probably working on a solution now.

While avatars are a fun little visual titillation, they are not essential to the functioning of the site so their priority as a bug fix is not as high as other issues. Remember prior to 2 yrs. ago, avatars weren't even an available option. So if we can all take some 'Deep' breaths and relax ourselves, the bug issues will eventually get painlessly resolved.

It doesn't really bother me. I just wish there was a list of known bugs somewhere, like in a sticky or an announcement at the top of the page. Some communication from the Admins would be good, seeing as we're beta testing the forum. It would save time if we knew what was broken and what not to worry about and what to focus on. Maybe they could ask us to test certain features?

Two issues:
1. Feedback tab has twice reported that message wasn't sent. Once several days ago and again today @ 1843 EST.
2. Community poll 'voter tags or pointers' appear in error. Sometime last week it indicated I'd voted on an older poll when I hadn't. Today the poll results screen shows that I'd voted on the Super-O poll. Since I've not super-Oed I've not voted on that one either.

tks (youse guys & gals[?] do gud work !) rook

I have also had "Feedback" report that the message was not sent. This is particularly worrying as in the Aneros chat session last Sunday the Aneros spokesperson specifically said that using Feedback was better than email, as it went directly to the team working on the software. As the team don't provide any feedback of either what problems they are aware of or that they consider they have fixed, I am unable to tell if the message about not being sent is correct or not.

In the mean time I suggest using email to @aneros.com">support@aneros.com as (before the implementation of "FeedbacK" facility) I have recieved acknowledgement from an emailed "bug" report.

I agree with Rook's point 2 also. It says I have already voted when I too have not had a super-O and am certain I have not voted.

Maybe I'm a bit mentally challenged today but for the life of me I can't figure out how to post a new thread. The posting permission box says that I may post new threads. What gives? I found a supplement that I like and wanted to share but can't figure out the new interface.

Thanks,

Stone

I could not think of another place to post this. I have an issue with the forum setup I have a 24" wide screen monitor that is 21.5" wide viewable yet the forum only uses less than 10.5" of it wide. So I have 11+ inches of screen unused and this makes me have to scroll down way too much on each thread and I hate it. What can I do to fix this is this forum made for people with 640x480 resolution? I use 1920x1080 resolution.
