Hi Aneroists!

I picked up the Aneros again (I have the Aneros Eupho Syn) after having the product for months and not doing it.

There are times (okay, I'm going to get graphic here...eject from this post if you don't want to read this) when I am finished, I will have fecal matter on it.

I have washed this bad boy with soap and water...sprayed with toy cleaner...and yet...there is a quite lingering smell.

I have recently sprayed it with Earthworm Odor Remover yet still the smell lingers.

There have been posts where the recommendation is to wash it with bar soap.

What have you found to get rid of the smell that has been effective?

I don't want to pass out every time I open up the red Aneros box and the smell of booty knocks me out faster than Brock Lesnar's punches! LOL!

@MisterFantastic , I have the Helix Syn and experienced the same thing as you have. When done, I wipe it with a wet towel and leave it soaking in a small pail of soapy water with a dash of bleach. It soaks overnight. The soap I use is dish washing soap and I add the bleach to it.
The next day, I pull it out and give it a good rub with more dish soap, rince and dry it. It is not at 100% but it does smell much better; the bad smell is minimal if any.

Good luck.

@MisterFantastic - you may try doing a soak every few days or so in Polident denture cleaner. Sounds goofy, but it's antibacterial and has worked well for me.

FYI: The Aneros classics have NO odor after use and cleaning.

You can use a condom around the Aneros. I find that the condom allows for lots of easy movement, with minimal lube, as well as making clean up a snap.

After each use I wash my Helix Syn twice with anti-bacterial hand wash jn very hot water. Then rinse under the hot tap and hang up to air dry. No smell.

On the few occasions when I get an undesirable aroma after a session, I use a couple of paper towels to wipe off any residual matter and remove the thin coating of vasoline that I always use on the device itself. Then I thoroughly wash with antibacterial dishsoap and lastly, boil for 10-15 minutes and let air dry...odor gone the next time I use it!

I'm not 100% sure, but I guess silicone withstands alcohol which works very good against smells (and bacteria / fungi in general). So you may try rubbing alcohol or even an after shave. You may try on the handle first, just to make sure that the silicone is not affected.

Yeah my Syn smells like ass too. Ass, or damp silicone, I've come to associate the two. My method is to wash it a number of times, first with soap to bust off the layer of old lube, then anti-bacterial hand wash to kill off any old stanky bacteria, then soap again to get it all squeaky. Then dry it really well. Then once it air-dries a little it's ready for storage.
Takes more effort than washing the plastic ones, that's for sure.

You can also stop smelling it...just an idea.

Hard not to do when you open the box and the smell assaults you...

Silicone is not supposed to maintain an "odor" or "smell." None of this makes sense. I don't own any Syn devices though so I don't know how they are constructed, but from pictures it looks like the silicone meets the plastic; the whole toy is NOT coated in silicone. Is there the chance that water/mess is getting in between the silicone and plastic?? If so that is NOT good! Silicone should also not retain any kind of scent. If it does then it may be or is porous, which is really not good.

Have y'all contacted Aneros about this?

Also, if fecal matter is an issue do you guys use an enema? I have a bulb one that is easy, uses a very small amount of water, and quickly and painlessly washes out my rectum making for a very worry-free, wonderful session 🙂 Plus the water gets me wet and a water based lube becomes very slick after an enema, it's like double good!

@Mastadon1 : tks for the Polident suggestion !

I've noticed that my slick finished silicone tools don't collect this odorous scum-- just the tools with a fine texture (Helix-syn, Siliconenozzles Mini-B, Maia dildo).

Several years ago someone in the Forum mentioned that anal toys with a slight or fine texture hold surface lube better than slick surfaces. No clue here whether that's true; however, I have a couple of slick-surfaced silicone toys and they do not accumulate scum.

As others have said, I also wipe it off, let it run under hot water, then I use Dawn Ultra Platinum Power Clean (or any of the other top-drawer dish soaps), use a fair-sized dollop of said soap, scrub it thoroughly, then rinse it off in hot water. In most cases, that will do the trick.

However, on my DeVice, after I pull it out of its box for the next use, it will magically grow some gritty coating within minutes, which requires a second cleaning with dish soap. Then, it's good to go.

Have you tried not putting it back in the box? I leave mine loose in a drawer. Never seen anything like that. I've heard some bacteria thrives in an oxygen-starved environment, and maybe that's what the box is providing (relative to storing it in a more open environment)? Or what ever is slowly seeping out of it might disperse into the air instead of clinging to the surface. The silicone might be so porous that it takes hours or days for everything to work its way to the surface.
I've no idea, but it's worth trying as an experiment.

What I have used for some time is OXI CLEAN MAX FORCE spray bottle. OXI Clean attacs organic elements and eliminates these.

I recently ordered a Syn, wish I had seen this thread before. I do like the smooth surfaces on the white devices. Used to be able to get a anti-bacterial/fungal called Zephiran years ago when I was brewing beer to clean the bottles. Wonder if it would work? It should be available at your pharmacist. I think I'll look for it myself.

My Helix Sync also started developing an odor. I clean it with Dawn soap and then an antibacterial soap. Then I wrap it in a paper towel filled with baking soda. When I want to use it, just brush it off. Smell too is eliminated.

I've tried each of the tips in this thread and think they are all good solutions to the smell issue. I also think we may be dealing with the same soft scum that is the root cause of dental plaque (starts soft then takes on a firmer, more solidly attached firm plaque.) Polident, dishwasher detergent (Finish, Ajax etc.) all seem effective to me. I'd like to just prevent the situation from developing though.

After reading the NIH web article on the tests of Unrefined Coconut Oil against Dental plaque and gum disease in Nigeria I opted to try several of my vulnerable Silicone toys with just Coconut Oil and also with a thin Vaseline base coat working in Coconut Oil lube. I made up a batch of Coconut Oil suppositories (kept chilled until a minute or so before insertion.) Also warmed Coconut Oil to a melt point and injected it with a lube shooter. After each session I dumped the toy(s) to soak in the 'dirty toy bucket' in my shower (water, a few drops of Ivory detergent or J&J baby shampoo and a small spash of Clorox). Other than a simple scrub with bar-Ivory and a washcloth, I haven't used anything else for two weeks. I'm not seeing any scum (plaque ?) accumulation and don't sense any of the stink that the scum seemed to produce. I'm not sure I can quit using the base coat of Vaseline, particularly for sessions that last over two hours.

Like any lube, we don't know what the long-term health effects might be so it's wise to not adopt any new lube protocol on the basis of a knee-jerk reaction to the status quo. Short-term and long-term reactions can vary from man to man -- so ask your own doctor. My own lube experience is to avoid any glycerin based products as those seem to increase the Triglyceride level in my semi-annual blood-serum tests.

I've asked four of my docs for their opinions on anal lube. Two of the four (Pri-care and Gastro-interologist) both pled that they weren't qualified to choose. My Uro noted that most of the professionals have more experience with Astroglide (glycerin based) or KY. My ENT guy suggested leaving the Shea Butter out of the lube and going with plain Coconut Oil.

Soft surface Silicone toys in use here are: Aneros Vice, Silidyne Mini-B (softness #12)
Firm surface Silicone toys are: Aneros Helix-syn, Cleanstream shower shooter, Maia D1 dildo,Silidyne Multirib (Softness #18)

I put most of the time on the Vice, and Helix-syn and the least on the Maia D1. Diet-wise, I'm an omnivore. Spice-wise, I like some heat in my chow.

I've used SGX, MGX, Helix Classic, Helix Syn, Eupho Classic, Eupho Syn, Progasm Jr. PS New, Tempo & Peridise...my "regulars" are the Classic models because I really like the stiffer Ptab and they are easier to clean.
