I have BPH and am considering using an Aneros. I get intolerable side effects from the drugs that shrink the prostate – severe rhinitis mostly.

I’ve tried manual massage. Disgusting and unsuccessful. I bought a penis-shaped dildo. Got a pretty good response but the idea of being discovered by my wife, kids, or housekeeper down on all fours, semi-naked, with a plastic prick up my butt is off-putting.

The doctor recommended an Aneros as a possibility. It was not an enthusiastic endorsement. He just said he'd heard some guys got results. I’ve been reading the forum and I’m skeptical about medical uses of an Aneros. 99% of the discussions center on getting it off.

Ten questions from the skeptic:

1. Does this thing work on BPH or are we just pretending it does so we can justify sticking something up our butts without being labeled as gay?
2. How long does the Aneros stay in place? I see references to sessions that last for “hours” but suspect this is on a par with lovemaking lasting hours – a five-minute hump and bump becomes four hours of lovemaking in the telling.
3. I see references to keeping the Aneros in while clothed – going to the dentist (!!) or just walking around. I don’t have a lot of time to lie around doing pelvic contractions and it would be convenient if I could mow the lawn, wash the car, or swim my laps with the thing in place. Does this work?
4. Can you swim laps with this thing in place?
5. I see references to sleeping with the Aneros in place. Is this for real? It would be convenient but it seems a long period of irritation on a sensitive spot.
6. I occasionally get hemorrhoids (from long-distance bicycling). The use of a reasonably-sized dildo didn’t result in hemorrhoids but it wasn’t in there all that long – ten minutes max. Are hemorrhoids a problem when using an Aneros and how do you minimize the potential?
7. I Googled Aneros and came up with a ‘package’ that included the lube and an enema. I assume every time I use this I have to clean out my holding tank. Isn’t there a problem with frequent use of enemas?
8. I found just a few references to using the Aneros during intercourse. Seems to me having something up your butt would kill your erection. Does it?
9. I am supposed to ‘manipulate’ the prostate every other day or so. If I use an Aneros, is this frequent use going to irritate the anus – or the prostate itself?
10. Finally, the references to Super-O’s or massive pelvic orgasms seem to indicate they come on when not using the Aneros and are spontaneous. My work requires absolute concentration. To lose concentration is to be dead. Can these orgasms be controlled or prevented?

I know this is a lot of questions but the forum search function doesn’t give me very coherent responses. Thanks for any help on these issues.

here is a brief response:

go to www.highisland.com. that is the site where this same product (same company) is discussed in a bph context.

you can use the device for health reasons or for sex reasons.

if you use it for sex you will become "multi-orgasmic" which means you can have long series of non-ejaculatory orgasms.

that can become addictive and it is possible that pleasure waves could happen to you at work.

you might want to keep it simple and short daily for the prostate massage.

i am sure others will have opinions on your work situation.

there is a forum (less active but still good) at the site i pointed you to.

MagnaV4,

Darwin has pretty much summed this up already. All of your questions relate to the fact that the Aneros is marketed here for its sexual/erotic application. What Darwin didn't mention is that this device was originally designed for health purposes, chiefly for improving circulation to the prostate and relieving congestion . Some users have also reported success in treating hemmorhoids as well. As Darwin has noted, the High Island site has it's own forum, so read and judge for yourself.

With respect to this sneaking up on you and becoming addictive, it is pretty unlikely unless your intent is to use this for pleasure (particularly in the case of short, more therapeutic sessions).

Thanks for the information. I went to High Island and the posts there are generally more terapeutically oriented and less ... fevered. 😯

My version of your question 7:
I've been using the Aneros for many many years (4-models) and have never needed an enema first. Eat better. Drink more water, exercise and if you feel full of "discharge material" don't stick something up your butt.

8. My version of your question 8:
Mosts guys don't focus on this but, I generally use an Aneros product when having regular sex with my wife. Your prostate is massaged deeply and correctly when "humping" in the missionary position - and others too. You'll probably orgasm rather quickly at first.

Secondly, as a blood pressure medicated 54 year old, the Aneros keeps me erect. As a matter of fact, many times I don't get a full erection until I insert the tool. (I also love the way it makes me feel - and my wife of 27 years likes me being happy).

You should consider involving your sexual partner in your Aneros use. You'll stay harder longer, have a better time, improve your health, feel better - and if you are married you wont' turn gay - if that's what you are afraid of feeling like. On days when I don't use the Aneros, my wife frequently massages my prostrate herself using her fingers. Marriage is a partnership that involves more than sharing a check book and raising kids.

Excellent points -- although sharing my prostate was not considered in the marriage contract way back when.
