Silicone lube clean up

I just got a progasm (yes it’s awesome, thanks for asking) and since it is made out of plastic I decided to use silicone lube.  I really enjoy this lube because it doesn’t burn the way water-based lube does upon initial insertion. The problem is clean up. silicone lube really adheres, and seems to résist soap and water pretty darn well. How much time should one wait between using silicone lube and using a silicone toy, so as not to “contaminate” the silicone toy with residual lube inside the rectum? One day? More? Of course it depends on bowel movements, but let’s say two bowel movements a day.

Seeing as the lubricant is really hard to get off toys and is on the bottle as well, Should I have a separate box for my silicone toys? Am I being overly cautious?

I am aware of all the other possibilities of lube but I have avoided oil for a while because of cleanup and because in my experience it irritates just as much a glycerin lube. I prefer glycerin free water based lubes but those are hard to come by regularly.

I'm "overly cautious" like you, all my toys are in separate containers and I won't switch to a silicon toy if I used silicon lube previously during that session. Dealing with this lube getting everywhere and the bottles always seeping was more trouble than I wanted and I just stopped buying it. I'm nervous about ruining some expensive silicon pieces I have so I don't want this stuff around any longer... once I'm done with what's left, that's it for me.

Hehe sorry, I guess it does not answer your questions, I'd definitely keep everything separated as much as possible, just in case.

@zentai Definitely not in the same session, but... the next day? I will try and find a good glycerin free alternatives and buy out the stock, if it seems like silicone lube is more trouble than its worth. I only have my helix syn, and my partner has a lelo sona, in terms of silicone toys. But that is 180 euros of toys that could be ruined if we’re not careful... I also recall you saying you almost killed yourself slipping on silicone lube, so I’m cautious about that too!

@divine_o from what I can tell, next day should be fine, like 24 hours. I never had problems from residual lube damaging a toy but I'm sure it could happen, now is it something to worry about ? I worry about a lot of things so I'm probably being too careful here, I don't really have an answer.

I never bought it myself because silicone toys were all I had til recently, but wouldn't something like a hybrid lube give you the best of both worlds?  Sliquid Silk comes to mind.

@faith-manages For divine_o it might be the worst of both worlds, sting from the glycerin (don't how if there's some in Sliquid) and then not being able to use it with his silicon toys...

I did use some hybrid approach by pre-lubing with water based and using silicon on the toy, it works great so I think something formulated with the same results in mind could be good. I bought a water-based lube a while ago that touted itself as having silicon-like properties but it wasn't that good. I don't think it contained any actual silicon, it was just super-thin.

Now I don't really pre-lube, I switch between Astroglide Gel and coconut-beeswax more or less at random and both are fine for the job, I really don't use that much and don't get unwanted side effects from either so I stopped looking for alternatives. Lube choice seems like a very personal thing and is very trial and error for lots of guys, once you get something good going, hold on to it!

Here, I'm copy-pasting right from the website:

"This product is 100% free of DEA, gluten, glycerin, glycol, parabens, PEG, propylene glycol, sorbitol, and sulfates.  It is also 100% vegan-friendly, non-toxic, and hypoallergenic.

  • Purified water and silicone blend
  • Long-lasting and easy to clean up
  • Safe to use with some platinum cured silicone toys
  • Non-staining, unflavored and unscented
  • Uniquely blended to enhance your body’s own natural lubrication"

When I was first starting into sex toys I read a lot of reviews on Amazon about everything and Sliquid was really popular there with women who had reactions to standard lubes with glycerin like KY, Astroglide, et al.  In fact that's why the company was started!  It has a lot of champions with the online review community, and it's the company that makes Sessions lubricant for Aneros.  Their all-water-based lubes never did it for me, but Silk might be the ticket now that I have the Peridise set and both Progasms.

@faith-manages Looks good! That's not the first time I see that *some* silicone lubes are ok with *some* silicone toys, but you can't really do a spot test since if it reacts, it's going to stay sticky and weird forever... again, I'm probably worrying too much.

Probably perfect for your Peridise and Progasm, seems like a well made product free of the suspicious ingredients you see in a lot of lubes.

@faith-manages Yes I agree with @zentai that I wouldn’t want to try anything silicone based, even partially. Sliquid has water based lubes but I can’t find any in my country.

i would like to try your beeswax coconut mixture. What is the recipe? My past tries with coconut were uncomfortable, but maybe beeswax helps..

I also worry about too many things. Maybe that is the key to prostate play?

@divine_o

About 4:1 ratio of coconut oil and beeswax, you can melt the wax safely in the microwave in small batches (several articles on the web about this for candle making) but the standard method is in a double boiler. The wax makes the lube thicker and longer lasting and it smells good. I think I remember that you love honey ? This should be a good fit for you ! Find some comb honey, eat the sticky goodness and make Super-O lube with the wax.

I honestly think that worrying about too much stuff is a huge obstacle, but if you think a lot you can also think about solutions... maybe it's bringing your worries with you in a session that is the worst aspect of this. In extreme cases your worries can make life in general pretty "meh" and that won't help at all if you can't let go for an hour or two. A session is not the right time to get your finances in order or think about your dentist appointment...

About silicone lube and toys, what I get is that high quality platinum cured silicone is more stable and won't react with much of anything, I've even had the Overly Friendly Lady At The Adult Store (TM) tell me it was ok to use silicone lube with the more expensive silicone toys... should we trust her ? Nah I say !

I feel like we've entered another dimension now...what were you even talking about at the beginning then?  I'm out!  😀 😀 😀

@faith-manages sorry, I meant to say, I wouldn’t want to try anything partially silicone based with a silicone toy. Otherwise I am happy with all the silicone lubes I’ve used, and my initial question was just about how much time to wait between usage of a silicone lube and usage of a silicone toy, seeing as the lube stays inside of you for a while.  Sorry for the confusion...!

@zentai Next time I see honey with honey combs in it I will buy it and try this out! Although my last experience with coconut oil was that it burned and I had to stop pretty quickly. I don’t understand why oils would burn me, but I think I have a problem with my digestive tract and oil. I do like to regularly retry things that didn’t work in the past because sometimes I am pleasantly surprised.

In terms of worries I think I adhere to mad magazine’s motto, once the toy is in. This is only something I worry about outside of a session when choosing what toy and what lube to use. During the session itself, I am on a different planet! Actually in general in life I am a ball of stress and worries, and I don’t know how it is possible that for all things sexual I am able to forget the rest and be in the moment. I am trying to work on being less stressed and worried... I know there is medication for this kind of stuff, but the reason why I don’t want to take any medication is because I am scared it would alter my libido. So I do yoga and breathe and read and play music.

@divine_o Well I'm a ball of stress and worries all the time and need some complicated tricks to let go, even during sex and sessions. Mostly the only thing that works is taking care of everything I can realistically have an influence on, then hoping what's left can be pushed aside with enough arousal. Like you I know science has some chemical answers but everyone I know that uses this kind of meds seems to have all excitement washed away from them. That scares me too much to try.

I looked around on the web and saw some water-based lube recipes with cornstarch and xanthan gum, don't know how good or safe they would be for extended anal use, might be worth looking into but I'm looking for more details before I stick this stuff inside me... it's described as "stringy and slimy" so I don't know what to make of it...

Edit : As for anxiety medication, I know that some people really need it to function and feel normal and that for them it's a real blessing, I'm not judging anyone. I was only sharing what 3 guys I know were openly saying about their experience using them in conjunction with therapy after experiencing work related burnout, that both the "good stress" and "bad stress" were gone.
