Guys,
I recently did some general check-up work with my doctor. I did a blood test and a PSA. My PSA score has always been about 1.4-1.8 is suddenly 3.6!
I can only relate one thing to my change, and that's my frequent excursions into Prostate massage with my Aneros products. Because of the wonderful Aneros results, I do tend to be a frequent user.
Has anyone else done/checked/experienced anything similar? I'm a bit concerned, naturally, even though my results are still in the "normal" range, my doctor still wants me to check it again in 90 days.
Any input would be appreciated.
cockadoodle-
prostate massage is understood to possibly release more PSA into the bloodstream. the half-life of PSA is 2-3 days, so a two week abstinence would be sufficient to completely clear the effects of the aneros.
that said, plenty of aneros users here on the forum have reported normal PSA scores, despite using it.
on the other hand, i personally have been on the PSA roller coaster. i had an almost identical jump as you did. i layed off the aneros for two weeks and re-tested. it went up!
based on that, i had to have a biopsy. was negative.
since then, it has jumped all around.
please understand that in *most* cases, the PSA can jump around and it does not mean you have cancer.
but, you should have it re-tested. if it stays high, a biopsy will probably be recommended.
i strongly advise that you do not freak out. the chances that you will be causing yourself unnecessary worry and stress are way higher than those that you really have a problem.

Cockadoodle,
It is my understanding there are a number of factors that can influence a man’s PSA scores. ”PSA levels can be also increased by prostate infection, irritation, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), and recent ejaculation, producing a false positive result. Digital rectal examination (DRE) has been shown in several studies to produce an increase in PSA.”. Your recent Aneros play could certainly have been a factor in contributing to elevated PSA numbers. I would recommend that you abstain from Aneros usage for 48-72 hours prior to your next blood test for PSA evaluation. You and I are about the same age, so you probably already know that PSA levels naturally increase beyond the age of 50. Hopefully your next test will show a decrease in the PSA number, although it may not drop down to your previous tested average (age catches all of us).
1.6 ......????????
I should be so lucky~!
Last test mine was way over 7, needless to say the urologist pressed for a biopsy after my DRE ( which came back negative).
I personally believe some men are genetically disposed to have higher PSAs with no real problem other than aging, because I can remember my dad going through this for no reason too!
My urologist and my naturepath doctor both said to wait at least 5 days after the DRE before having another blood test, because the DRE could skew the results otherwise.
By the way, I recommend avoiding the biopsy if at all possible, it was a very barbaric procedure, and no man likes blood coming out both ends down there~!
The reason I have purchased the Aneros device is for prostate massage to attempt reducing the enlargement of my prostate. I've read A LOT of good press about it's results (prostate massage).
OK, so if I happen to get my jollies along the way while doing it, so much the better, right?

Thanks, fellas, for the reassurances. I'll be sure to lay off the toy before my next test. In the meantime, maybe it would be better, and with higher highs, if I lay off a bit. I've been a bit excessive lately.
Interesting that others of you have had a similar experience or speak directly to my question. This forum is a terrific resource, and I thank you for it as well as enjoy it so much.

My PSA tests have actually improved with Aneros use beginning in 2007.
12/2005: PSA 0.6
12/2006: PSA 0.7
12/2007: PSA 0.4
12/2008: PSA 0.4
That's the good news! I have always abstained from Aneros use for a week prior to PSA testing.
The bad news is that BPH has become worse. Aneros use provides temporary relief, but between sessions, symptoms return. I believe that my age (64 1/2) is catching up with me! I am on Flomax and Avodart with no improvement. I have a follow-up with urologist in a couple of weeks.
Hope this helps.
Serenity,
Sorry to hear about the BPH, but I must say, that you could get mugged for having PSA numbers like that at your age! 😉 Seriously, it's terrific that you have numbers that low. Regardless, I know that BPH can produce uncomfortable symptoms.
Have you ever tried the supplementation route? Beta sisterol, Quercetin, Bromelain and such. My brother-in-law is on a combination of Flomax and a product called BP Q and it seems to have helped him. Check it out at http://www.farrlabs.com/products/index/keyword/bp-q.html . There are other products out there that contain these same ingredients in varying amounts. The isolates are also available at some health food stores. Just a thought.

also, look into Uroxatral as an alternative to flomax. it is a simlar drug --alpha-blocker targeted to the bladder neck-- but it is a next-generation version that sidesteps the retro-ejac side effects.
