so i've been using the helix since august, and after a frustrating first month or so i made some progress and have stuck with it.
the 'most' i get so far is a tingling sensation that seems to start around my balls and then move into where the helix is, or vice versa. once the feeling went through my whole body.
the thing is, these feelings start quite soon after i put in the helix, and they usually start strong. these tinglings (i'm guessing they're what you call p-waves or pleasure-waves) get weaker as the session goes on, and by about an hour into each session the aneros just isn't comfortable any more and i have to take it out.
is this something anyone else has encountered? from what i understand, the p-waves are a good indicator that you're on your way...and i know my experience of a super-o is way off in the distance so i'm not in any rush since i've accepted how long this will take for me (as it's already taken a few months to get to this point). it just seems that this is happening backwards - what i've usually read is that the p-waves start subtly then get more intense as time passes. i know not everyone's experience is the same but just wondered if anyone has had something like this happen...?
also - did any of you feel some discomfort during the "rewiring process" when the aneros wasn't in? i feel like my prostate is waking up but doesn't want to.
I've had my Helix since Aug as well and I'm actually pretty close to hitting the big O. Your sessions will have ups and downs. I know mine did. Last few sessions have been fantastic, but only after a 2 month dry spell of "plateau".
OK, thought I'd add a bit here. A few "checklist" items to maybe help you out from a fellow noob.
Starting out: Do you flush out your rectum with a rectal syringe? Poo impedes the movement of the Helix. Is the P-tab hitting you right? I had to tweak mine quite a bit. Is your "taint" dry? Some lube tends to seep out. Is it inserted properly? Checking the insertion helped me big time!
Position: If you are on your back, does the bottom of the handle catch on your mattress? I usually go on my side or wad up blankets under my knees to raise up my ass slightly. Plus it's more comfy than having a towel or pillow under the small of your back.
Contractions: I have found that you need to control your contractions and structure your session to get good results. When I first started, the Helix would wildly jackhammer in and out randomly. Experiment with what types feel best. Just like hand masturbation, it's about tecnique.
For me, I try to "roll" the massager. I contract in and "back" in a smooth motion. I also apply some slight muscle tension so I squeeze in a bit on all sides rather than completely relaxing.
The "shakes": Once involuntaries start in I try to keep my chest from heaving and "channel" the muscle flutters downward to my butt. Having a good position will help you do this. Again, lots of trial/error.

What kind of contractions are you using? There are certain contractions (strong ones in particular) that can actually extinguish P-waves. Specifically, when someone is new to the Aneros or anal play, there is a certain "irritation factor" to deal with. For many the sensation of inserting something anally is very foreign. This may register itself as anal, rectal or prostate discomfort, or all of the above. For this reason it is essential that all contractions start at a very subtle level.
Even if one does not have any discomfort per se, P-waves are more commonly induced and magnified by gentle and easy contractions. Also, try not to load yourself with too many contractions at one time. Very often users will apply the logic of more is better when less is more is really indicated. Contract....but then allow your body an opportunity to respond to it, remembering to truly experience the sensation of release as well. So often newbies will apply a veritable fusillade of contractions never stopping to really experience anything. Essentially running-over the responses with more stimulation. If you've not tried so already, it may be time for you to mix things up a bit with some visualization. With visualization one shifts from consciously working different patterns of contractions and moves towards a more mentally focused approach where the body is allowed to respond more naturally to arousal.
With respect to post session discomfort, I'm not sure if you are speaking of discomfort as in soreness (on the pain side of things) or is it more of a hypersensitivity? The soreness can be related to a variety of factors that include; the overuse of high intensity contractions, engaging in sessions that are overly long and sensitivity to a particular lubricant. Hypersensitivity on the other hand, is fairly common the process of rewiring.
