First of all, apologies that this is not solely prostate related, although part of my intention of it is to derive more pleasure in this area.

The problem I'm having though is finding sustainable methods maintaining semen retention. I've done It before but feel my headspace is not quite right lately.

Does anyone have any advice or any links for what could help to achieve a more sustainable practice with less frustration?

  • It is my understanding that if done correctly you should not feel incredibly frustrated at all. As opposed to how you'd feel in the no fap space.

So to reiterate this is to perform semen retention and not no fap.

Would love to hear from your experiences.

Hi, could you define what you consider to be "nofap" and "semen retention"?

@pirontras semen retention usually involves practices that still involve genital stimulation of the penis though without ejeculation.

No fap is literally no ejeculation and no stimulation. Complete abstinence.

I don't know the context of this quote, but it's possible he might have been talking about the kind of semen retention where people don't sexually stimulate themselves? There is /r/Semenretention on Reddit, but I got the impression they're hands-off. Maybe this isn't a clearly agreed upon term.
Or the person who said that, is having non-ejaculatory sessions that are especially fulfilling. Which I have encountered a small handful of times, and not something I'm able to repeat at will.

Hmm, not really now that I think of it. My approach is more to make peace with the frustration, and think myself out of considering it a big deal. That maybe the sensations I'm feeling are part of what I signed up for. I become curious about them, and want to see where they lead next.

The other major factor for me is having some reason to do it. I've done "No Nut November" a few times, and having it as a personal challenge and self-control game with a definite end-date, can be just enough motivation to get me through. Similarly Mindgasm's 30 day challenge turned abstinence into a project, and gave me some higher-order goal. Which is very useful when I'm thinking "You know it'd be easier to get to sleep if I just ejaculated".

Mostly I find the frustration wears off and becomes background noise. Sometimes after a week, sometimes after two.

If I could pick some ideal method, it would be to repeat the dry ejaculation I had during the Mindgasm 30 day challenge. It involved every muscle spasm, every physical and pleasure sensation that a full ejaculation would have, but nothing came out. It came with a feeling of total relief afterwards too, as if I had just ejaculated. It was the only time I've ever experienced that. Now if I could do that at will, I think semen retention would get a whole lot easier.
I plan on re-visiting that challenge some time, but the exercises can get a bit grueling after doing them nearly every day for 3 weeks.

@clenchy For me I just don't want to feel at mercy to my desires. A little like being at the mercy of eating junk food if you like.

I'm 100% convinced a lot has to do with your nervous system also. I find when I become frustrated in life a simple way to release tension can be through ejeculating. This being said it's only a temporary fix.

Well, I've never been able to crack the code. I've heard guys talk about "transmutation", where the sexual urge is channeled as something else (eg. creativity, productivity), but it's always in a context of complete abstinence.
