Hi, everyone. These scratches on the syn v were made with a kitchen sponge while cleaning. Is this dangerous for hygiene? Should i throw it away?

I seriously doubt this creates any danger to your hygiene if you wash it (gently in the future) with warm soap and water before and after use. If you are still concerned you could additionally thoroughly wipe it with isopropyl alcohol prior to use. I would definitely not throw it away, its still perfectly usable and I doubt you will be able to even feel those slight scratches if you are using a thick lube like shea butter or coconut oil. The silicone material itself will not support bacterial growth, so cleaning any potential fecal matter from the scratches will be sufficient.

@rumel I definitely don't feel anything. I was just scared of an infection. Thanks for the answer. Although by looking around the forum I am seriously considering just sticking with my helix trident and not bother with all these cleaning, lubricating crap of silicone. I wasn't seeing any difference anyway. I am not having any results whatsoever but bph is not leaving me a choice but using a massager.

Nah bro you’ll be fine. Unless a pre-existing condition,we don’t get infected by our own shit.

On a different note, when you say preexisting you mean something in the feces or e.g in the immune system? I've also heard that you can't get something from your own stuff. I guess though the problem is when shit stays out in the open and you fail to clean it up before next use. Thanks for the reassuring though. I am still puzzled how a sponge could do that. These things only happen to me haha.

@sstrpls

Yes,something that would make you susceptible.

Did you use silicone lube on it? Forget the sponges,just take it on the shower with you after,showergel it up and clean with your hands,then clean your hands! Works for me. You can buy an anti-bac spray to spray on after if your really paranoid about it.

It's pretty simple really, sponges are very porous and can easily pick up small grit particles, especially those sponges used for general scrubbing purposes, and can act like sandpaper if they contain small grit. Additionally you should be aware that "Kitchen sponges frequently contain more active bacteria than anywhere else in a house — including the toilet." you could be adding to the bacterial load by using a sponge. Using a clean paper towel as a scrubber might be a safer option.

Hands only for me when cleaning, I've never used anything but fingers on my toys with soap and water.

I think that oils can harm the silicone finish on toys like the HSV, I may be wrong but I think oil does harm. Silicone lube do not use on silicone toys of any kind, it ruins the toys big time. Also, don't let silicone toys rest against other toys of other kinds of materials. Sometimes in the past toys have literally melted or warped to take on the shape of the toy laying on it or touching it!! Those melted toys go in the trash lol how gross and weird.

Find a natural kind of soap, I use Dove soap for Sensitive Skin since it has almost nothing in it (safe for your skin, too) to wash all my toys. If its not slippery anymore from the lube left on it you've cleaned it good.

If you're worried about e-coli and fecal matter and infections and the like, you can use a small enema bulb and clean out really good before your session. I do this before every session. Makes for a very clean, easy and worry-free session! Also makes the worry of "how dirty are my toys now?" less worrisome.

The hands only and no sponge tips were very interesting, thanks. If the oil thing is true I'm in deep trouble since I can't tolerate water lubes nor do they suit me with insertion. As I said I will probably stick with the classic. There are many success stories with the plastic ones and I don't think that my failure is due to the model. It would be great to experiment but it's better to keep it more hassle free. Especially if there is nothing like crazy orgasms to look forward to like you guys have.

I had a silicone stroker that my wife named "Wilma" lol. I set other toys on top of it one time and the hole fused shut from the pressure and the "melting" of the material. Silicone toys do require some special care.

I have not tried any of the syn models yet, but I'm not busting down doors to get one. The plastic ones are just fine.

@sstrpls, I just bought some JO H20Anal, and it is thick like most silicone lubes and performs very well. I'm not sure of it's contents, as some water based lubes can cause irritation, but I believe there's an organic version that is less irritating and still silicone safe. Best of luck!

Yes I think/hope plastic ones do the trick too. The case against water lubes is also a matter of price at least in my country.
