It was recently reported by the people at stopagingnow.com that the class of chemicals named "parabens" are known to be hormone disruptors, and potentially can cause cancer. This may be of interest to you if you use Astroglide, Liquid Silk, Maximus, Slippery Stuff, or Trimensa Cream or Gel, because all of those lubes contain one or more of: butylparaben, ethylparaben, methylparaben, propylparaben.
Anyone else out there know anything about the safety of these chemicals?

Slippery Stuff is the only one considered safe for extended use in the anus and rectum.
The Slippery Stuff folks mention that Blue Label Gel does contain a small amount of parabens and acknowledge that large quantities of parabens might be a carcinogen. I'm down to injecting less than 2.5ml and don't sweat the trace of parabens I get when I'm on the road. (strictly a Shea user when at home.)
They offer a red label without the parabens. I've not tried it though so can't vouch for it's lube qualities.
The Blue label is now offered in a 1oz container suitable for carry-on luggage. If the Red label is also packaged that way, I might give it a try. Will need to order lube stuff next month so will try to retrive this thread and post results.

Thanks for the pointer. That study found Slippery Stuff safe because it is hyposmolar (doesn't pull water out of rectal cells). Unfortunately it didn't say whether its final 2 ingredients (sodium carboxylpolymethylene, methylparaben) are also safe.
Looks like there is no clear winner in water-based lubes. 🙁
