I was wondering, is the higginson syringe a one way pump? In that if you squeeze the water goes in one way, and when you release no water is sent the other way?

No, when you squeeze the Higginson, one bulb of water is pumped into you but it stays inside you. The Higginson then refills itself with water from the enema bag. I have used one for years when taking enemas.
