Prostate cancer update

It's a week since I started radiation treatment for my cancer.
I eventually decided to go with brachytherapy radiation therapy as I believed it to be the least 'invasive' (something of a contradiction given that the radioactive 'seeds' are implanted directly into the prostate ;-)). I had the procedure on Friday last week and so far all is well. I even managed some lovemaking with my wife last night.

In the lead-up to treatment and following my bone scan and the confirmation that the cancer was localised I allowed myself some limited aneros use. Mostly I used the peridise. I found that I couldn't manage much longer than about 30 minutes per session before it became uncomfortable and I had to remove.
I did make some limited progress on my aneros journey before the cancer was diagnosed and I look forward to continuing down that trail of discovery at sometime in the not too distant future. I suspect, however that it may be a while before I can renew my acquaintance.

In the meanwhile I'll continue to read the forum posts with envious interest.
My thanks again for the moral support, with special thanks to Rumel for sharing with me his personal experience.

Hi brianro,

Sounds as though the procedure was minimally invasive as you were able to resume limited activities fairly quickly. I Googled brachytherapy to see what it was all about, the article I read indicated the radioisotope used was either iodine-125 or palladium-103. If I may ask, do you know which of these were used in your procedure?

Thank you for sharing this… and here’s to a quick and complete recovery.

brianro,

My prayers and thoughts for a speedy recovery go out to you. I am going to send a big P-wave out to circle the moon until the next full moon (June 7), I hope you’ll be ready to ride it when it returns your way on that date.

Thanks again to all of you for your support and good wishes.
SWW - The radioisotope being used in me is iodine-125. The isotope is actually contained within a tiny inert metal cylinder ('seed'), so no chance of contamination from the iodine.
I have noticed a change in my urinary and bowel activity and sometimes feel as if there's something 'alive' and moving within me! 😉 -- It's almost akin to the more pleasurable aneros sensations I've had.

brianro, my best wishes to you for a speedy recovery.

An interesting forum which I found on my journey to the Aneros forum is http://www.healingwell.com/community/default.aspx?f=35 a forum on prostate cancer. Even though I have not had prostate cancer I found a lot of useful information there as well as an extremely supportive group of men.

Please continue to share on this forum. As men we are often reluctant to talk about prostate matters to our friends but the anonymity of a forum makes it much easier. And we all need to be more aware of our present and potential health issues, especially as we get older.

Thank you for sharing!

Helixbill - a very interesting and useful forum which I will definitely follow. Many thanks. I will also continue to contribute to this forum especially regarding my (hopefully) resumed aneros usage.

Hello brianro,
My regards, best wishes and prayers to you!
My cousin opted for seed implants five years ago and is living well now. They also 'zeroed' him out, testosterone-wise for the first year of treatment but he's now restored to full battery.
Take care, hang in there and keep us appraised.

Going through a bit of a dip right now 🙁 Possible combination of a cold (it's winter down south) and the first experience of diarrhea of which I was warned pre-op. Also just a general feeling of 'unease' within. All of which I'm sure will pass with time 🙂

Sorry to hear of the after effects. Please remember to 'be gentle' with yourself emotionally during this time.

As a male I tend to get resentful toward my body when I don't feel well. For some goofy reason I start thinking I "shouldn't" feel bad and have to remind my self that I am human, not superhuman.

Just accept that this too is part of the 'journey' called life and it will pass. And please keep posting your honest feelings. Your sharing may make someone else's path a bit easier when they have to go through what you are going through.
