Allow me to start off by saying hello and little about myself. This is my first post here. I just received my first Aneros (the Helix Syn) about 3 weeks ago and things have been going great for the most part. I decided to buy the Aneros because I recently got my penis pierced and figured it would be perfect since it is recommended to avoid all penile stimulation when using the Aneros and while the piercing heals. Well, the piercing has actually gotten in the way because having an erection, especially the super hard ones I sometimes get from the Syn can be very painful and distracting. Not a big deal, it forces me to take is slow and really enjoy the subtle sensations and hopefully within the next week or two the piercing will be fully healed so I can fully enjoy a session. But that's not the reason I'm posting this.
I've noticed, since day one of using the Syn, a persistent, unpleasant tingling during my sessions. It is usually around the head of the Syn and even a bit deeper inside of me. It has become really distracting. I purchased the Higginson syringe and have been cleaning myself out before each session. I use KY Ultragel for lube. I originally thought this sensation was just a new part of my body waking up so it seemed unpleasant and would go away with time. But several weeks in, and it still is unpleasant. Just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem and any suggestions.
Hello exopsytosis,(clever screenname) and, welcome to the forum!
I'm not familiar with 'Ultragel' and was unable to find it's ingredients on the first few sites I visited.
Please check the ingredients on the label for the presence of glycerin/glycerine. You may be one of the 20-30% of us who are sensitive to glycerin.

Now that you mention it, the ingredients aren't listed on the bottle either and I couldn't find them on Google. If I am sensitive to glycerin, what would you recommend as a substitute since I cannot use silicone lubricant with the Syn?
Hi
For Helix-SYN you may want to try an oil based lube.
Some use vaseline on the aneros and a oil prelube. Others vegetable oils or a vegetable oil combined with beeswax - Natural Jelly. There is a lot of information about this in the forum.
Do a test with either caster oil, walnut oil or sweet almond oil to see if you have a reaction to oil. Because these are not absorbed you don't need very much. All these are very cheap. Depending where you live all should be available. If it is okay then the ideal is to mix you own version of Natural Jelly which allows you to adjust the viscosity to suit your need. I find NJ good as a prelude and as rubbing into the Helix-S.
There is also unrefined Shea Butter which is interesting and used by many but can be hard to get. There is heaps of discussion about all these lubricants on the forum.
None of these will trouble silicone.
A very good water-based lube is Slippery Stuff Gel; it's super thick, super-slippery, super-long-lasting, and best of all, glycerin-free. It isn't very expensive; I just bought a 16 oz pumper on Amazon.com for under $15. It was tested as the most anal-safe lube amongst the most popular lubes several years ago, but the article has since been pulled and I cannot find another.
I'm not familiar with a glycerin based lube having this effect. It's usually just an urge to purge effect. I would think if it were an allergic reaction you'd have it all over, not just where the Syn is massaging.
With that said, I have a couple of questions. You say consistent...does that mean after you remove the Syn(i.e few hours later or next day)? Is it unpleasant or just a nuisance? Many explain the prostate awakening to be an annoying and persistant throbbing after their first few uses. Could this be what you're feeling?
Once I remove the Syn, the tingling goes away fairly quickly, never lasting more than an hour after a session. And it's rather unpleasant. Kind of like the pins and needles feeling you get when your leg falls asleep and wakes back up.
Since it stops when you remove it, you may be correct that it may be part of the awakening. I get very strong and persistant, "electric" tingling. It seems that if it was the lube, it would continue after you remove the Syn?
Xileh
So if it is just the awakening, I should just keep on going and it'll work itself out?
Also, thanks for all the lube suggestions, I will definitely be giving them a try.
I never use KY on the inside because of the laxative effect (in fact I don't enema or inject lube at all). Even a small amount of a glycerin containing lube on the outside causes an unpleasant kind of tingling local irritation, so I wonder if it could be a similar feeling you're having inside.
I'm a huge proponent of Coconut Oil...for prelube and lubing the Aneros. I haven't tried mixing it with anything else...haven't had a need to. It seems to last as long as I need it...until I rinse. I've fallen asleep (not recommended) and pulled it out 8 hours later with no discomfort and there seemed to be plenty left.
Just went out and bought some coconut oil and wow did it make a difference. Thanks for the suggestion! There is still a slight tingle at the top of my prostate (before it was all over and I couldn't pinpoint where exactly it was coming from). I'm assuming that is still me awakening, but the discomfort is gone.

Totally cool that you are distinguishing the point source of your feelings !
Congratulations !

That's great stumpy! I'm glad this works for you. I get the same results from 100% shea butter.
