Topic starter

Hi Everyone,

you probably have noticed all the new topics created by "anonymous" user.  These are all topics that weren't migrated over the first go-around.  Either we will have to fix the data manually or the migration company will fix the data and associate the right author with each topic.  We will keep everyone updated, but if you see the topic starter for these topics changing please don't be surprised.

My sympathies. Not an easy job.

Having been in a situation like this with a forum myself, I must have done a dozen test runs before doing it on production, such that when it was time to migrate things to "live" it took only a few hours and most people didn't notice any difference afterwards.

These things take time and lots of planning, and a test system for the developers to make mistakes on.

Admin-Aneros,

I joined in 2018, and then my identity and posts vanished in the migration. I had to re-register, and now I'm a new user instead of being two years in.*

My question:

If you're able to collate the anonymous posts with former users, will it lead to my old identity (if that's retrievable) or the new one?

*Years ago, our own IT department made an egregious error when they ditched our old system, then implemented the new one. Chaos ensued: incredible amounts of data was lost, and millions of dollars wasted on hasty fixes. They should have run the new system parallel with the old one, and slowly transitioned and unplugged when they were sure everything was functional. All good engineers know that this is a first principle. No offense intended, but I hope you're learning from the error. You have an amazing product- it deserves an amazing platform.

Cheers,

Zenopause

My gratitude for getting the worst of this fixed.  Great to be able to scroll the list again.  That was pretty fast work & most appreciated.

If our own posts are messed up are we able to tell you first hand or submit a request?
