I'd like to get a feel for others lube routines. What kind of lube do you use? Do you use a dropper or syringe to insert it? How far up do you push the lube? How much lube do you use?
I use Wet Platinum and use a small syringe to push 4cc of it up. I will start by pushing a little at the front and slowly insert it a couple inches and push the rest as i go. I then put a thin coat of vaseline on the aneros. I've heard bad things about vaseline, but I've never had any trouble with it. Is there any alternative that is as thick as vaseline? Is 4cc enough? Too much?
Sometimes, when I'm alone I will take flax seed and boil them to make lube. This is one of my favorites and wish I could find something to buy like this. The feel and texture reminds me of precum. The main problem I have with this method is that it needs to be refrigerated afterwards to prevent it from going bad. I don't won't to explain having this in the refrigerator to the people I live with.
Edit: I just read through the wiki again and it says to use 2-3 tsp which I converted out to roughtly 10-15 cc. So maybe I'm not using enough down there.
I've never used more than 5cc. 10 or 15 seems like a huge amount.
To get the most out of the lube, consider a quick clean out before hand. I use an old fleet bottle with warm tap water.

Yeah it does seem like a lot, but that is what was in the wiki. Maybe that is just for the water based lubes that have a tendency to dry out. If I haven't gone to the bathroom before, I sometimes get a douche and clean myself out a little. I've also noticed if I eat close to a session I sometimes have gas build up and that ruins everything when you have to relieve that.
@120711, is Wet Platinum a silicone lube? I never thought of injecting that but I use it on the aneros. Do you have good movement with that? Maybe I'll try it.
I was concerned about putting a lot of silicone inside me. Vaseline is supposed to be safe enough but I like she butter cream on the device. It's about the same consistency as Vaseline. Then I coat the Shea Butter with a veggie oil.
@euphemistic Yes, it is a silicone lube. It works pretty well and never drys out. Walmart carries it for $10. The only drawback is also that it never drys out if you know what I mean. So it stays there until you use the bathroom. I haven't had any issues with it and it seems to work well, but I'm always looking for something better. I've tried the ID lube (water based), but it dries to fast for me. Also, I forgot to mention I do use coconut oil sometimes and it works pretty well. Leaves ur anus smelling wonderful lol.
What brand of shea butter do you use? I looked online at walmart and all they had was some fruit scented ones. Is there just a generic plain one? I assume you don't want any of the scented stuff in your bum.
@aneros_user120711, "never assume". I may want to attract someone to my bum for some reason ; )
I buy Now Solutions 100% Shea Butter cream from the health food store because it was a good price. Unrefined is supposed to be best but at least get 100% pure with no additives.
Vitamin Shoppe has that brand online, but not in stores. They have some other brands in store I may check out. I just went to Wet's website and they have a lube that is made just for anal that is supposedly thicker. It's called Wet Uranus. I really want to try this now, but the pharmacies/big box stores don't carry it.
It supposedly doesn't stain like regular silicone. I have it all over my devices, can't think how it got there 🙂
Reviews say it's not as thick as they expected. BTW I use shea butter on my hands and mustache too!
That is one thing I don't like about the Platinum lube. The viscosity is a little too runny for my taste, but it still works quite well. Anything is better than having to stop and relube. There is a novelty store not too far from me that may sell it. They carry Wet products. I think I read that the water based lube is thicker than the silicone ones. Maybe I'll give them another shot since it has been a few years. Just prob have to use more so I don't have to stop and relube.
Haven't noticed any staining other than wet spots, but these have always disappeared after a few hours.
That Pjur Analyse Me lube has some good reviews on that link you provided. I'd be interested in trying that one as well.
@orgazmo, try Slippery Stuff Gel; it's really thick and slippery, and if no air gets to it, it stays slippery for a long time. You can get a 16 oz pumper on Amazon or eBay for under $20 delv'd.
@badger That is a pretty good deal. I think the Wet Platinum is only like 3.1 ounces. When I run out of what I have I may order one water based and one silicone to experiment some.
Several users in this forum once recommended starting with a layer of an oil-based lube (like petroleum jelly) then applying a water-based lube (like Swiss Navy). You apply these layers to your anus and the Aneros. It worked so well that I got to the Super-O in about 4 weeks of use. Later on, I tried injecting water-based lube, but even that small amount of liquid made me feel like it was BM time. Lately, I've been layering with petroleum jelly and coconut oil (oil on oil). It's decent, but not as good as the water-based over the oil-based.
I start with a lube syringe I got off of ebay. I usually fill it about 2/3 full, (no idea how many ml) and insert it as far as it will go. I empty it and then when I pull it out some of the lube follows it out. That way I know the entire length inside is lubed. Then I lube up my aneros and in he goes. I use organic coconut oil almost exclusively. It's cheap and it works great...lasts a long time and never loses its slickness.
Later on, I tried injecting water-based lube, but even that small amount of liquid made me feel like it was BM time.
Try a different product. I've had extremely unpleasant laxative reactions with two different water-based lubes: System Jo Anal H2O and Sliquid Naturals Sassy Gel. I found Passion Lubes doesn't provoke any phantom poop effects with me.
Is it usually the water based lubes that can give you that reaction or can the silicone ones do that as well? I never had the "phantom poop" urges, just a real one this one time. Talk about a session buster.
orgazmo,
The primary function of the lubrication is to assure a minimum of friction between your Aneros and you. Since the rectum produces very little in the way of natural lubrication, it is necessary to provide supplemental lubrication to assure a comfortable and irritation free buffer. Understand the amount of Aneros movement generated by your internal muscular contractions is actually very small, so in that sense it doesn't really slide much at all (except upon insertion and extraction). The concept of the Aneros moving freely is just to make sure there is no encumbrance to these small movements.
There has been a continuing discussion on the Forum about lubrication types and issues. Next to discussions about the Super-O, lubrication is probably the next most discussed topic. I recommend you first read the Lubrication paragraph in the Getting Started chapter of the Aneros WIKI and then read through the Bestlube..., Need Help with lube choice, coconut oil, Coconut Oil and Unrefined shea butter..., threads for additional information and insight into this topic.
Most commercially prepared personal lubricants contain glycerine which has laxative effects and depending on the sensitivity of the individual, may cause the dreaded "urge to purge" syndrome cutting short one's Anerosession. However, other individuals seem to be unaffected by the small amounts of glycerine in these lubricants. In any event, glycerine (whether naturally or synthetically derived) is but one of many chemical constituents in these lubes.
As far as I know there have been no long term studies of the health effects of commercially prepared or natural personal lubricants. Because of the frequency and duration of Anerosessions the use of commercial personal lubricants has become a subject of concern for a number of Forum members due to the repeated exposure to the chemical constituents contained in these products and their long term health effects. Many members have chosen to seek out more natural lubricants in hopes of ameliorating any long term negative effects.
There are many choices for natural lubrication, it is more a matter of personal preference which particular lube you choose to use. Olive, coconut, walnut and almond oils are all popular alternative natural lube choices, shea butter is another popular natural lubricant. These natural lubricants do not contain glycerin. The rectal wall is a highly permeable membrane, easily absorbing water and the chemicals therein. While natural oil lubes do get absorbed like water based lubes, the absorption rate is slower and as the viscosity of the oil increases, the absorption rate decreases. Hence lighter weight (low viscosity) oils like grape seed and olive oil will be more readily absorbed and disperse more rapidly than heavier oils (higher viscosity) like almond oil or canola oil.
Personally, I am concerned about the uptake of the various chemicals in commercial 'personal lubricants'. Since I've developed a sensitivity to the glycerin found in many of the commercial lubricants, I've switched to using the 'Natural Jelly' formulation. This compound is safe for use with both the plastic and silicone Aneros models. I've also found a 50% almond oil - 50% shea butter lube effective as well.
Good Vibes to You !
@rumel Thanks for the info. The long term affects of chemicals in lubes has crossed my mind. I like the idea of natural alternatives, but they are usually a little more involved. I was thinking of experimenting with using just coconut oil for a session and see how it goes. I've read something about making suppositories. What I may do though is take a teaspoon and melt it and pull it into a syringe.
I tried crisco one time when I didn't have anything else, but I'm worried about the impact of all the unhealthy fats in that getting absorbed. Ideally I would like something with a lot of healthy fats. I don't think olive oil would work well for me, but I've never tried it. I prefer lube to have a little more viscosity. Shea butter is one that I want to try, but I've got to make a trip across town to get some unless I can find a health store closer to me. Also, flax seed lube is one of my favorites though it's a pita to make and you have to refrigerate it. You can also adjust the viscosity on this lube easily by the amount of water that goes in it. This seems like a very healthy alternative to me.
Do you mix the almond oil and shea butter in batches? Or do you just apply each separately in a 50/50 manner for your sessions.
I melt shea butter in a double boiler, place an ear plug in large (diameter) shake straws, and place the straws (plugged end down) in a precut hole in a block of wood. Pour the melted shea butter into the straw, place in the freezer for 20 minutes or so, push the now solid forms out with a smaller diameter wood stick, cut into 3/4 to 1 inch pieces and put all the pieces in a zip lock baggie in the freezer. Including cleanup takes about 30 minutes. One bullet plug per session and a little coconut oil on the aneros works for me.
orgazmo,
I prepare the mixture using the double boiler technique. I mix about 3/4 cup each of almond oil and shea butter, heat until thoroughly mixed, then pour into a clean, empty margarine tub for storage in the refrigerator. Also, you can easily prepare suppository plugs at the same time as per @okron's procedure above. This much lube will last me nearly a year, so, even though it may initially take 30 minutes to make, it is always easily available thereafter.
Good Vibes to You !
Thanks for the info @okron and @rumel. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if I can use this method as my roommates don't know what I'm up too. Not sure what their reaction would be if I told them I was making lube for my anal sex toy. I could definitely find time to make it, but it's the refrigeration part that is tricky. I guess I need to get a small frig for my room. Is it the almond oil that needs to be refrigerated or both? I don't refrigerate my coconut oil and it stays solid and it still smells fine after a year.
