Hi everyone,
I just wondered if anyone has had any success using KY personal lubricant? I am sure it is water based but it seems to dry out very quickly, has anyone else noticed this?
Does anyone know where I can buy some other water based lube over the counter in the uk that would be good for aneros?
It seems that are a lot of stores just sell KY Personal and/or Durex Play!
I and others like Maximus which is made in the UK (Isle of Wight).
I tried KY Jelly, and for some reason I find it dries out quicker than Durex Play. I'll give Maximus a shot though.
AndrewP,
You're quite right about KY Jelly tending to dry out, this is a common complaint about many water based lubricants used by Aneros practitioners. There has been a continuing discussion on the Forum about lubrication types and issues. Next to discussions about the Super-O, lubrication is probably the next most discussed topic. I recommend you first read the Lubrication paragraph in the Getting Started chapter of the Aneros WIKI and then read through the Bestlube..., Need Help with lube choice, Coconut Oil or Unrefined shea butter... threads for additional information and insight into this topic.
There are many choices for natural lubrication, it is more a matter of personal preference which particular lube you choose to use. Olive oil, coconut oil and almond oil are all popular alternative natural lube choices, shea butter is another popular natural lubricant. These natural lubricants do not contain glycerin which can have a laxative effect on many men. The rectal wall is a highly permeable membrane, easily absorbing water and the chemicals therein. While natural oil lubes do get absorbed like water based lubes, the absorption rate is slower and as the viscosity of the oil increases, the absorption rate decreases. Hence lighter weight (low viscosity) oils like grape seed and olive oil will be more readily absorbed and disperse more rapidly than heavier oils (higher viscosity) like almond oil or canola oil.
Personally, I am concerned about the uptake of the various chemicals in commercial 'personal lubricants'. Since I've developed a sensitivity to the glycerin found in many of the commercial lubricants, I've switched to using the 'Natural Jelly' formulation. I've also found a 50% almond oil - 50% shea butter lube effective as well.

Thought I`d give you all some input.
In the military you learn to hydrate if you`re vomiting everything you try to drink. One way to do this is by injecting water into your rectum. This way your rectum can absorb into your body up to 3dl (deciliters - european measure) of water. This might be why waterbased lubricants don`t work so good.
Cleaning up down there with water before the session MIGHT help, since you exhaust the absorbation the closer you get to 3dl.
Hope this puts things into perspective for alot of people that wonder...
The "drying-out" of water based lubes has more to with dehydration as a result of open air exposure than it does with absorption inside the rectum. The excursion of the Aneros in and out of the anus is largely responsible. This is why the idea of prelubrication (introducing a small amount of a liquid type water based lube inside the rectum with a medicine dropper) was first introduced. The concept was about establishing an internal reservoir of lube that would replenish the drying areas automatically. That said, as Rumel pointed out, there are many who do not wish to use these substances internally as some amounts are undoubtedly absorbed. There has been a great deal of discussion in the forum over the years about the possible toxicity of these materials. It has been stated that these products have been used reliably in the medical community for half a century. Nonetheless, understandably some folks wish to err on the side of caution. Again, a personal preference.

I've read that olive oil can actually kill nerve endings if used as personal lubricant...one can never do 'too much' homework... that's my 2 bits
@Noob71, I did a quick web search about oils as a personal lubricant. The references were not able to separate oil and latex. So most of the information was about not using an oil (mainly olive) with a condom, which of course is not the answer I was seeking. Only a few anal references and again they referred to oil breaking down condoms. The one or two added lines were positive but one reference said it clogged the pores, but these were referring to vaginal lubrication or advertising there own water based product. One reference warned about the huge numbers of additives in all water based commercial personal lubricants. Saliva was not a good idea either. So the search was not very helpful.
Several references said olive oil had been used as a personal lubricant since the day it was first extracted probably by a frustrated male looking for something slippery! I think most discoveries are sexually motivated and then are found useful for other things - like the wheel?
kill nerve endings??? Where did you find such malarkey? lol But seriously :-S
If you can safely put something in your mouth, i.e. olive oil, you can put it you know were. The epithelial linings throughout the alimentary canal, mouth to anus, is pretty similar.
I have had good results (previously posted) with a combination of olive oil and A&D ointment which is simply petroleum jelly (vaseline) and lanolin. But I started with injecting (using a smoothed, "sawed-off" 10 ml syringe. Now, I have found that all I really need is to coat the device with a bit of olive oil and cover with the A&D, apply some A&D to the anus and inward, and I am getting totally adequate and successful lubrication. I have avoided the KY products because of methylparaben and more importantly the clorhexidine antiseptic that has to be absorbed through the rectal mucosa and is not something physicians use internally (as far as I know).
