Hello people,
I am wondering if anyone has got any information on the long term effects or side effects that prostate stimulation may have?
Can constant and repetitive pressure and friction on the gland (not just from the aneros but any form - fingers, vibrators, dildos, etc) lead to damage of any sort? Will the gland stop functioning correctly? Is it easy to damage the prostate?
And what about lubrication? Can it cause cancer? Is there any research into this area? Now before you all get offended or think I'm crazy, a lot of oil based products are dangerous to our health. Especially synthetic oils and petroleum based products. The oil you stick in your car can cause cancer, it's even written on the bottle. Please don't think I'm stupid enough to suggest using that as a lubricant but a lot of chemicals, fertilizers and so on are refined from petroleum products. How are we to know for sure what goes into a lubricant when companies need to keep costs to a minmum. so what is a good way to find a healthy lub?
I'm really not trying to scare monger or dismiss prostate play. I just want to know how safe it is first and I'm only interested in a healthy sex life. If we are to go beyond penetrative sex or penile stimulation then surely sexual health and all it's concerns must stretch to more than just condoms.
John
Hello Gravity121,
I understand your concerns, but the Aneros prostate massagers, except for the large Progasm, were developed by High Island Health specifically to promote prostate health. The Progasm was designed primarily for pleasure. So these devices are gentle and safe and intended for long term use. They will not cause any damage such as can be caused by frequent bicycling on a narrow seat.
About lube, we all agree. If it is not safe to eat then it is not safe in the rear end. I prefer pure coconut oil, but the lubes sold on this website are safe enough.
These prostate massagers are wonderful for your sexual health. So be good to your prostate and enjoy!
Good health,
GT
I hear you Gravity121 - I have my concerns too. This is really new territory and I doubt a lot of studies have been done. I hope long term use does not aggravate or cause cancer in any way. I tend to doubt it will. I've been checking my PSA numbers and they are always staying the same and fairly low since before and while using the Aneros. I have less irritation when I urinate, urinate less frequently at night, and pee more freely when I go. I apparently was having some minor prostate problems that many of us get as we get older - but I was unaware of the problem really until the Aneros fixed them. Additionally I have a small hemorroid or two and since using the Aneros it seems to have improved that problem as well. I almost never bleed anymore - it's probably been at least more than a year since I did - usually it was only a tiny bit then anyway. So, I am encouraged by all this, but would like to hear results from other long term studies - related to prostate and anal play whether Aneros related or not.
I also concur with your concerns about lube. Certainly it can make a difference. Go with something you feel you can drink, or eat safely. I use water based that don't contain glycerine, but coconut oil may really be the best and healthiest choice.
For my oil based lube, I have used Vaseline. I also use ID Glide syringed in. I do wonder about the health effects of using Vaseline as often as I do.
Do you feel the coconut oil stays on as well as Vaseline?
The Lone Rider,
With regards to your use of ‘Vaseline’ petroleum jelly you might be interested in the natural alternatives presented in this thread, see - http://aneros.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2838
i have to say, i am starting to worry about the lubes also.
so far, i have injected a half liter of Maximus lube into my rectum over a year or so. a half liter!
here is a link for the product: http://erosimax.com/maximus-liquid-silk
here are the ingredients:
Highly Purified Water, Propylene Glycol, Cellulose Polymer, Di Sodium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol, Methyl Paraben, Butyl Paraben, Ethyl Paraben, Propyl Paraben.
honestly, i have no idea what that stuff is, and am increasingly uncomfortable with the idea of it being absorbed into... who knows where.
i am thinking about exploring vegetable oil. as i have learned on this forum, oil lubes in the rectum could interfere with its ability to absorb water from the stool. however, i feel that, as problems go, that is a relatively innocuous one compared to absorbing mystery chemicals.

Darwin,
I have tried some different, more natural lubricants. I tried margarine, but stopped because most are made with hydrogenated vegetable oils which I learned are really trans fats. In hindsight, I attribute my temporary skewed cholesterol numbers to this practice. I tried Virg’s cornstarch lube but found that inadequate. I had been using generic KY on the Aneros for insertion purposes but find injecting it just leads to the ‘urge to purge’. I have tried soybean oil, corn oil, and coconut oil. Those oils all have been adequate as internal lubes with no negative reactions from my body. The drawback to those lubes, however, is that externally, they dry out, become sticky and are easily squeegeed off the Aneros. When this happens reapplication is necessary.
I am having good results with this natural alternative petroleum jelly (see - http://aneros.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2838&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 ). By adjusting the beeswax/oil ratio you can adjust the viscosity to your desired consistency. The beeswax aspect adheres well to the Aneros and doesn’t dry out like the straight oil does.

when you say veg oil is adequate internally but dries out externally, if i am injecting it, will i have that problem?
typically i lube my hole with albolene, so i won't need the veg oil on the outside.

Darwin...consider this combination/process...
I am currently using coconut oil. I have tried grapeseed oil, fish oil, olive oil, veg. oil, as well as the water-based lubes in the "early days"...I like the coconut oil best...smells nicer, works well, etc. I put a little extra in the syringe and as I START to insert, I depress the plunger to put a little inside the anus...this lubes it for the syringe. Works really well. Try to get as little as possible of the coconut oil on the "outside".
Once the syringe is out, I put Vaseline or the Un-Petroleum Jelly on the outside and where the P-tab makes contact. It was "stick" better if coconut oil has not make skin contact first... I liked this warmed, if I have time. At room temperature, it is more in clumps...warmed, it is "creamier"...
Then I put coconut oil on the Aneros (it is a thin coat but it does not take much), insert, and have fun. I believe that the coconut oil coating helps with insertion AND helps to minimize the amount of Vaseline/etc. that will "attach" to the Aneros upon insertion. What may "attach" is very small, I believe.
I use this sequence so the syringe does not push Vaseline/etc. inside.
As to my post on the corn starch lube, it is an odd concoction and it certainly has it's faults. I found it at the beginning of my search for a more natural lube. I recently found a web link that had been posted online showing how to make it, with more instructions and info that I originally provided... I have added it to the original thread.
I hope this helps...

virg-
does the coconut oil lubricate better than the other veg oils?
are you using the kind of syringe with an o-ring? isn't it degrading?

darwin...
I do not know if it lubes "better".... I suspect that olive oil and most veg. oils are thicker, so they would probably lube "better" but for our purposes, I think the cocnut oil does fine. I like it because is feels good on the skin, smells best of all of the ones I have tried, it can be purchased in a highly refined/processed state. Mainly, I feel "better" about it being absorbed into my system rather than the other oills.
The polls show that there are many, many users that use no lube or very little. One oil lubing "better" than another is really splitting hairs, I think, given that almost any oil would work well for what we need it to do. I think the bigger issue is which one are you comfortable with being in you bloodstream, since we still know so little about the physical/medical elements of this addictive activity.
I am using a syringe that has a non-degrading o-ring. I got it at Walgreen's and it works great!
I hope this helps.
Virg.
i've been ussing vasoline in my adventures...
Darwin,
I didn’t have any problems with the vegetable oil drying out internally after injection. What I did notice was that after nearly two hours of use my anus was starting to feel a little sore. I attributed the soreness to increased friction generated by the rubbing action of my Aneros’ movement, I had also noted the similar condition when using generic KY jelly and it dried out. I started using ‘Vaseline’ around my anal opening after injecting the lube and this solved the friction problem, but the concern with petroleum based products remained. I know the amount of ‘Vaseline’ applied to the exterior and to the first 2 cm. of the anus is not much internal exposure but still it is a bit of concern.
I used a regime similar to that described by Virg above but I don’t lube the perineum/P-tab contact like Virg.
With this new mixture I am now trying I am not injecting anything. I manually apply a little of the Natural Jelly to the anus and anal opening, push a little amount internally past the sphincter and apply a generous coating to my Aneros and insert. The total amount of lube used is only about a teaspoonful.
Thanks all,
I am still not sure what to do. There seems to be a split in opinion over the petroleum versus water-based lubes. I am not sure if something being water based automatically makes it better. Maybe it does, I just don't know.
I am beginning to think I may want to just go with the Peridise exclusively for awhile. I can use it with less lube due to the smaller area. It also seems to me that the Peridise does it's stuff with less muscle engagement and contact, meaning perhaps less potential for friction and discomfort. I need to get my Peridise set smoothed up with rubbing compound and polishing.
I am still interested in this topic of lubes, their relative effectiveness and safety...
Hi Lone Rider,
I do not know if there is a "split" as much as lots of "opinions". Some consider it a simple, minor concern; some lay awake nights considering the buckets of lube that is collecting in our brains; some solve the problem by using no lube at all.
If you want to ponder the possibilities, check out this thread - http://www.aneros.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1545&highlight=
Just food for thought...
Virg
Hi Virg,
Lots of good stuff here. Not sure what to make of it yet. The coconut oil looks promising. I just wish there was some actual data. Unfortunatly, you are not likely to see a nationwide phone poll of anal toy users to provide the necessary data. 😛
I am going to continue to watch this thread and try to figure this out with available web resources...
