I am a long-time user of Aneros and lately have been reluctant to initiate a session. I really prefer to have a thoroughly clean ass when I start which has always been a fairly long process for me(due to I believe the slowness with which my bowels vacate naturally). Typically it would take around 2 hours and 5-7 enemas before I was satisfactorily clean(my goal was being able to take an enema and vacate it immediately with no sign of fecal matter). The last two or three times I have had an even harder time preparing, to the point of really pushing me off doing it as often as I want to(I get really disinterested and discouraged spending 3 and even 4 hours holding in enemas, letting go, repeating, and still not coming out close to clean). I rarely have that much free uninterrupted time, and even if I did, it is simply too much time spent on the process for me.
I am curious to know how difficult and time consuming the preparation process is for most Aneros users as well as their standards for cleanliness before they begin. I am thinking about ways to improve my digestive process(more fiber, pro-biotics, maybe some psyllium husk, etc.) because I really want to get back into regular use(with much less hassle beforehand). I feel like even 2 hours is a bit heavy for me, and would like to contain the preparation to an hour if possible. I have tried using without being fully clean, but I find it hard to get into and unappealing.
Used to be an issue, now I don't clean at all, no mess anymore either.
There is someone on here that uses a condom to cover the Aneros. I think he uses lube inside the condom. Maybe someone else can recall it better than I.
Like @inhope I do not need to clean. I freeze a little (more than a tea spoon) Extra Virgin Coconut Oil that comes in a jar that is a soft solid. I go to the bathroom to make sure there isn't anything to push out. Sometimes coffee will help you move bowls. After the oil is frozen (aprox 8 minutes), it is inserted. After that, I slightly lube the device with Pure Shea Butter and insert. So my prep time is 10 minutes. As the frozen oil become a liquid (5 minutes), that is a great time to relax before getting things rollin.
Interesting. Going off that info I think I might be being a little too obsessive about cleanliness.
Asolo,
There are several older threads that discuss this topic extensively, it's also covered in the WIKI. The truth is if you have plenty of fiber in your diet, exercise regularly and drink an adequate amount of water daily you can often promote the kind of bowel regularity that will make using an enema unnecessary. Taking probiotics can help as well.
If you still want to consider an enema your focus should be on rinsing out your rectum, not your entire colon. There are two keys to limiting this process, use water that is as near to body temperature as possible. Water that is too hot or too cold will cause cramping (larger scale peristalsis) and when this occurs you're pretty much committed to a thorough clean out. Limiting the amount of water that you use is important as well, using too much will result in water making it's way higher up into your digestive tract where it may loosen material. Really it doesn't take much more than 6 ounces of water to do the trick.
Some users also like to wait 30 to 60 minutes after an enema as this allows the body to reabsorb any water that is retained inside.
Again, using an enema is not strictly necessary, particularly if you're able to get yourself on track with bowel regularity. If you do choose to use one, try to limit the scope.
Cheers,
BF Mayfield
Sorry for the repeat topic and thanks for the advice.
No problem at all Asolo, just wanted you to know that there are likely further details to be had in some of these earlier threads and the WIKI, but my answer above is the gist of it.

Irony: today I removed the aneros after a session and got a bit messy. For the first time in ages too! Hah
Sounds like you're doing "high colonics" with your enema preparation. If you really, want to enema, it's just a small amount of warm water to help empty the lower rectum where the Aneros is going to be. Don't put in so much fluid that it goes into your colon higher up promoting colon contractions and that unpleasant queasy "laxative feeling".
Actually I don't enema at all, just try to eat healthy and have healthy bowel movements that naturally empty the rectum during defecating. I never see fecal soilage on my Aneros after a session, no bad smell, no unpleasantness. And I sure save time by not going through that ritual.
I don't worry too much about cleaning. I just have a BM and a shower, making sure that I scrub my rear really well. It works for me and there's almost never anything extra on the Aneros when I remove it.
I actually enjoy the process. The anticipation and awakening the anal nerve endings leads to very successful sessions. I see it as a positive experience, actually quite cleansing, mentally, as well.
One or two enemas is what I go with. I did without any starting out but had discomfort plus I think it restricted the motion of the Aneros from what was left in the rectum. I just don't clear out well enough with a regular BM. The bottom line was that it just didn't feel right to me without cleaning. I could probably use more fiber, but I'm not doing all that bad with how I eat and exercise. I think stress plays a role at times in the nature of a BM for me.
I usually wait a little while between a BM before the enema then wait a little while longer afterwards before starting a session. There's usually little to no sign of fecal matter on removal after the session. I do use shea butter as a lube for the session.
Thanks for the input everyone.
inhope- Sorry for the jinx!
slimjm- Yeah, a colonic seems to be what I was doing.
Gilman- I agree, it helps set the mood and feels good when you have it done. When I was getting it done in under 2 hours it was worth it to me, and I enjoyed it. When I have enough time and my digestion is more regular, I might go back to it.
Thanks to the advice, I have tried a couple sessions where I went with BM - single enema - shower. I wasn't totally comfortable the first session, but I got used to it during the second session. Cut my preparation to 30 min to an hour, no mess, and had a good session. Thanks!
@Asolo--- Let natural processes remain as such! If the Aneros gets soiled, it's nothing that soap and warm water won't clean sufficiently! I typically take a shower after my sessions where I clean up myself and my Aneros. While it may seem unpleasant, your bodily functions are a normal and necessary part of you!

@Asolo I echo @Theme_Gasm 's thoughts. At the end of an intense session it's nice to clean-off the sweat (and potential for body stench). When I'm unable to hand-clean my tools after a session I toss them into a wide-mouth plastic container in the shower, then cover them with a 10% Clorox solution.
One other thought. Five to seven enemas in a two-hour period seems a bit 'aggressive.' That routine doesn't allow much time to eliminate one before starting another. Perhaps you are forcing fluid and waste further up your colon rather than waiting patiently for it to do it's work.
I use a medium-sized bulb about two times and and get a bit of the water in. It seems that if you push in more water it causes cramps and then you're committed as B Mayfield said. I start every day with a big bowl of oats and love vegetables and fruit, so cleaning isn't a problem at all. If you're seriously about reducing you cleaning time you should make some changes to your diet
Thanks again for the input
I think you can say I ended up somewhere in the median of the advice. I am not quite of the mind to appreciate the au natural side of it yet, but I have gotten comfortable not going as far as I used to. I may continue to shorten the process in the future, but for now I am satisfied with where it is at.
I have improved my diet, which helps. Basically I will have a bowel movement, hit one or two enemas, and take a shower. The advice helped me find a more reasonable process and I no longer feel an aversion to having a session based on the cleaning aspect.
Appreciate it!
When starting out, I always did some douching, but now I don't really care too much for it anymore. It seems like a waste of time, and as long as the rectum is empty, then the session should proceed unhindered. I take a shower afterwards, obviously.
