Is lube being absorbed into the blood a real threat?

I have read many threads on here about people being worried about the chemical's in lube being absorbed into the blood from the aneros sessions. I also worry about it. However I watched a t.v. show "man vs wild", and he demonstrated giving himself an enema with "dirty" water so he could get some water into his system without the same danger as if he had drank the water. Anyone else watched this episode?

So I have to ask, if it's "somewhat" safe to give yourself and enema with dirty water to survive without the same risks as drinking the water, is there a big danger from using lubes? thanks.

I guess it depends on what kind of lube you are using. Never use anything that has a lable saying "for external use only" and use only water based lube. I believe they are the safest

AnerosNoobie,

I believe the reason the "dirty" water enema was utilized in lieu of drinking was to reduce the likelyhood of being infected with harmful bacteria such as Giardia lamblia or Escherichia_coli but it should be pointed out this type of fluid rehydration should only be performed where absolute survival is at stake, you are still at risk for contracting a disease. IMHO, this is not a "somewhat" safe proceedure but a last resort for survivability. If possible, your best proceedure would be to boil the water, killing off any potentially harmful bacteria and then drinking the cooled water.

The main concern raised by member 'Virg' and others here regarding lubes is the long term effects of repeated, extended duration exposure to the various chemical compounds contained in the commercially available personal lubes. How toxic or carcinogenic are these compounds at the increased level of exposure which is unique to Aneros users? We just don't know! We do know the mucosal membrane of the rectum is highly absorbent for water soluble compounds, that's why medical suppositories are so effective at delivering their drugs directly to the bloodstream. Each of us needs to be aware of this fact and make a personal lube selection with this knowledge in mind. You need to weigh the risks involved with the intake of any compound into your body as they all have risks. To what extent you consider something a "...big danger from using lubes" only you can determine.
