After reading the worries about lubes, I find myself a little worried! lol. So I'm looking into Vaseline. How safe is it do you think? How many of you use it, and for how long? I'm currently using "slippery stuff" a water based lube, that is glycerin free, and has been used for 20 years. Says it's made for women, by women so I don't know if it's intended for anal play.
I use Vaseline all the time. No problems.
I tried it but found it gets gummy after long stints. ie overnight. It is petroleum based i think this means petrol. cant be good. but I am no expert
yeah, I'm a bit of a petroleum phobe but use Vaseline more often than Crisco because it stores at room temperature, is convenient and easier to apply. There's also an argument that Crisco contains trans-fats. A third choice is Albolene (a cosmetic make-up remover), highly recommended by friends who are more aggressive with anal penetration than am I. Plenty of anecdotal information on the web.. just Google for it.
Silicone oil based lubes work great but tend to linger. Some web posts say that everyday use of silicone will slow the clean elimination of fecal material.
Regarding Slippery Stuff (gel). On this Forum page, do a search for "catie." Most of the Forum posts you see will have a link to Johns Hopkins University studies of anal lubes. Regrettably all the lubes are water based. Slippery Stuff got good marks for compatibility with the cellular makeup of the colon and rectum. Some of the vaginal lubes do real cellular damage in the rectum and colon. During a session those lubes migrate as far as 40cm up the colon.

jja,
'Vaseline' petroleum jelly is probably safe, after all, doctors had been using it for years to lubricate rectal thermometers on babies and ol' man Chesebrough claimed to have eaten a spoonful of it every day till his death at age 96.
However, some men find its stiff consistency 'off putting' and its cleanup bothersome. The only lube I use now is an alternative called 'Natural Jelly' which is customizeable to your desired viscosity.
Good Vibes to You !
I use "Boy Butter" and have found it to be excellent for any kind of session, including all-nighters. I had been injecting about 5ml, but lately have experimented with just coating the aneros with a thin film. Seems to work just as well.
Yeah I'm still not sure about vaseline, some people suggest there's the possibility of it harboring/encouraging bacteria and building up inside you with too frequent of use. Still, I might give it a try, just being a little careful not to overuse it.
Can anyone comment on any of the variety of vaseline products that come with a soap push-spout? They seem to have a lot more ingredients and more tailored for skin care and just wondered if anyone knew if any of those varieties would be less safe, or okay?
EDIT: This product line
is what I'm talking about. I have yet to research all the ingredients,
but its good to note this variety has glycerine for those who have
issues with that.
EDIT 2: That product line probably isn't the best
idea folks, some of those chemicals are banned in other countries for
low to mild health concerns. Might not be terrible, but safer to
stick with vanilla vaseline
I can't speak for the products shown in Zoop's link, but I have used the original Vaseline white petroleum jelly (that comes in the little plastic tub), for some time now, with no problems at all.
My favourite lube for Aneros activity remains unrefined shea butter. It lasts all night, requires almost no preparation and is relatively easy to clean up. The only reason for not using shea butter for a particular session is that I normally pre-lube with a frozen or chilled plug of shea butter before insertion of the tool itself.
When I want a spontaneous session which requires no pre-planning, I go for Vaseline, although I doubt I would use it on a continuous basis. Vaseline is marginally more difficult to clean up afterwards, but that is a minor problem.
I have used it in combination with a small amount of silicone (Astroglide X) and find it to be an exceptional lubricant pairing. Ten_s_nut suggested it, too.
I put a light coating of Vaseline on first and then mix a small amount of silicone into it. It's long lasting and very slippery.
Been doing it for years, and fear not.

I have to agree, I use a light coating of vaseline, and a little bit of a lighter oil. The Vaseline provides a very durable base that stays with it. Just a side note, don't use silicone lubes with the Syn if you have it, it will ruin it.
Hello, jja.
I've been using Aneros for 2 years. The first year, I tried all kinds of water-based lubes. None of them worked well for me and some were downright painful (ones with glycerin). The second year, I switched to Walnut Oil, which has Omega-3, so it's good to absorb, usually in combination with Vaseline, which can't be absorbed. I use a thin coat of Vaseline on the device, followed by a thin coat of oil. Very, very slippery and will last all night.
Note that Target sells a no-name version of Vaseline (in the infant care section of the store) that is less viscous than the name brand, if you want something extra slippery.
Cheers,
Dave
ten_s_nut.
Do you used any prelube or only lube the Aneros?
Sounds great with Vaseline and an oil. Ever so cheap, simple and ever so available.
I have used vaseline for a lube before, but I like Albolene mositurizing cream it cleans up easy.It will not dry out and it is very slippery.I have been using it for about 5 yrs for my penis vacuum pump and really like it. A jar will last a long time and is cheaper then KY jelly. I use it for my aneros session's now.
Hello, isvara.
Nope, no pre-lube needed. I use the bare minimum of lube. Too much and it just makes a mess or migrates up your colon and acts like a laxative.
Cheers,
Dave
Good stuff, simple minimal efficient and long lasting.
Summery of ideas as mention on the forum
Easy and effortless to use, prelube optional, last all night
Vaseline and silicone
Vaseline and walnut oil
Vaseline and sweet almond oil
Vaseline and any water based lube, prelube may be needed as it may absorbed, may not last long.
Easy but application needs planning, but seem to last all night
Unrefined Shea butter neat, has to be inserted unless at body temperature.
Requiring some work to make, a little prelube may be helpful, seem to last all night:
Beeswax and walnut oil
Beeswax and sweet almond oil
Beeswax and castor oil.
Shea butter and coconut oil, has to be inserted unless at body temp.
I think all the ingredient in above mixes keep their integrity and slide over each other.(slippery)
Vaseline is generally a poor idea. It does not get easily absorbed by the body and if used enough can coat and block portions of the small intestine (granted you have to use ALOT) also vaseline can capture bacteria in the small intestine and create infections....the negative results of using it can take years to develop but trust me, not worth it.
I would always suggest using water based lubricant if possible.
I'm not sure how it can be harmful, if it can be eaten daily for many years without effect.
As I've said before elseware, the man who discovered Vaseline, Robert Chesebrough, ate a spoonful every day for over 60 years, until his death at 96. So I would be quite surprized that it can cause health issues in the rectum, or intestine, for that matter. Plus, I'm not sure how to get Vaseline into the small intestine, which is several feet up from the rectum through the large intestine.
Perhaps if he had not eaten the Vaseline he might have lived to a 100!
I joke!
So I just obtained some vaseline (just the regular variety) to try out for myself. So far not completely sold. It does last long, and its comfortable, but its a little TOO thick, not really "slick", more just sludgey and doesn't allow for as free movement as I'd like. I'll experiment a bit more with adding a layer of lighter oil on top, but I didn't have a ton of improvement using either coconut or olive oil the couple times I tried with it so far.
ALSO There's a lot more danger to putting things up your butt then down your throat. Putting many different safe food products right up your butt would be a bad idea. The digestive system does a lot more to deal with bacteria/etc, whereas your rectum can be more of a mainline into your body. So the story of Robert Chesebrough isn't really super helpful, and I mean, you can point to chain-smokers who lived long lives too.
BUT It does seems like there's enough people using it and not a ton of actual problems I can find from it. I'd just use it a little carefully, and probably not daily. Bacterial infections do seem like a possibility if overused.
I think the best advice for using vaseline was to coat the Aneros with a light smear of Vaseline, then use either a little water based or oil lube. The Vaseline keeps the surface of the Aneros lubricated. Very little is actually used and a lot of the little remains on the outside.
From all the replies and posts there does not seem to be an ideal lube and we all try to do the best we can.
If I use Vaseline, I always dip the lubricated tool into a little jar containing KY lubricant that eases insertion and makes it nice and slippery.
Whilst shea butter is my preferred lube, Vaseline gets a gurnsey only once or twice in a couple of weeks. Have had no adverse reactions so far.
@isvara
I just had a much more successful session where I used very little
vaseline, and pre-lubed with quite a bit more coconut oil. It seems that too
much vaseline works to its disadvantage, but a smaller amount definitely helps things from drying out and prolong the effects of the lighter oil.
I find that a light smear of vaseline along with either Astroglide X Silicone or olive oil is a wonderful, long lasting and excellent lube.
Like Pommie, I've been using it for a long time, almost daily, and have no ill effects to report.
