Helix Syn: Mechanical failure

I am curious, did you happen to use silicone lube?

I've never used silicone lube with the Syn, only oily lubes. I've even allowed a three or four days gap between having used silicone lube and using the Syn.

Perhaps @CT would want to know about this?

It still works and is still functional. As I only got it in December I've still got some time to contact the seller. I'm waiting before sending it back just in case CT et al. might want me to do some other checks on it.

I have docked the handle. That might prove a point of contention with Lovehoney.

From my understanding you should never use oil based lubes on silicon toys, so this may very well be the cause.
What does it say about lube in the instruction manual? I would imagine it would specify never use oil based lubes.
Also if you've docked the handle you don't stand much chance of returning it.

The surface is unaffected, and I'm not the only person here to use oily lubes with the Syn, or to have docked the handle.

@goldenboyuk - The silicone and plastic on the Helix Syn is not negatively effected by oil based lubes. Many users have been using oil based lubes with the Helix Syn. It is silicone lubes that should never be used with silicone sex toys. And oil based lubes that should not be used with latex condoms.

I have a silicone spatula which I often use when frying eggs and similar tasks involving hot oil. It's rated up to at least 400°F. I don't see any damage from such use. Now, I wouldn't use a Helix Syn in my frying pan...

@twlltin, it sounds as if it is quite useable if it can't be returned. The only downside might be if fluids can get inside the silicone. But there would be no leakage inside the body. Might have a nice sideways twist!

You know, I was hesitant to bring this up simply b/c, I too use oils/Shea butter and I've cut the tail, but I have the same problem. Mechanically the device works fine and has for some time. The only thing I'm worried about is the possibility of bacteria getting lodged between the ridged plastic innertube and the outer silicone mold. Just my 2 ¢

You are right, removal of the handle shouldn't have caused the separation of the silicone as you've described, (that is unless you undermined the silicone at the base). Nonetheless it is possible that the retailer may take issue with the fact that you've modified the product in this way. Hopefully they'll replace the item for you without any trouble. If not you may see if the manufacturer is willing to help you.

I have to ask, what was the reason that you removed the handle? I found it soft, smooth and springy, so much so that I've actually sat on the Helix Syn quite comfortably.

p.s. I wouldn't wait too long before taking this up LoveHoney. While you do have more time under the warrantee the sooner the claim is made to the time of purchase the better the case for defect.

When I began my Aneros sessions early June 2012, I used AstroGlide as my lube until January 2013 when I switched over to extra virgin olive oil as my preferred lube. My Helix Syn has not been damaged by the olive oil. But could someone tell me if extra virgin olive oil is actually harmful to the Helix Syn?

Oils can be used safely with all of the SYN products.

Silicone lubricants may not be used as they will degrade the surface of the massager.

Handle removal is performed because the handle catches on the bedsheets/towel when I'm in the position that works best for me -- flat on my back.
