A bit off topic but of general interest.

Why did you pick your 'Handle" and avatar ?

My reasons are as follows.

I have a deep respect for the master mariners and explorers of the past.
Sailing away from the known world, not knowing when or if they would return.

Cook, Magellan, Vasco De Gama, Able Tasman.

In the same spirit of exploration the Voyager space probes
continue on their way.
In "Star Trek, The Movie" one of the Voyagers returns.
Who knows !

As for my avatar.
It shows James Cook's ship 'Endeavor' off the cost of Terra Australis Incognita
in 1770.

Who are you ?

To Aneros_user123456789 and his brothers please contact support to change your handle.
Who do you want to be ?
Use your imagination and be something other than a number.

Mine is going to seem pretty silly compared to Voyager (good post, by the way). My handle came from what was my favorite TV show at the time I started in 2005 called Arrested Development. While I found many of the characters to be funny, I found Buster to be not only funny but curious and odd as well.

As far as my avatar goes, I got that from my friend Rumel. He is a pretty creative guy. I liked everything about it and have kept it here as well as on my Facebook page.

(Edit: Rumel IM'd me a reminder of my avatar's significance: "Your avatar is intended to act as a Yantra with the 7 triangles symbolizing the seven body chakra points, the pulse rate of the background is intended to correspond to a relaxed rate of breathing cycles.")

I have often wondered about how some people came up with their ID's.

Great idea Voyager!! 😀 😀

Every now and then, here or in the chats, the avatars become the subject of questions and conversation. And there are many wonderful examples in this Forum. They take me back to the great heraldic identity imagery of the chivalric Middle Ages. Armoured knights, amorous for damsels in distress.

artform is my "handle" because I believe that we are at a pivotal transformative time in planetary civilization, and that we all need to have the comprehensive ecologies of sensitivities of the artist in all we do publicly and privately in our lives in this era. Eros and the full spectrum energies are the greatest media of living art, IMHO.

I have studied gender and sexuality for many years academically and felt kinship with the Green Man, the vegetal embodiment of male energies, the Flowering Rod. The first event that took my penis public was the result of harvesting our multi-acres asparagus crop one day. Bending over, wearing only shorts which rubbed my spring sport nicely, walking, bending and cutting off these daily vigourous green erections springing from the aromatic spring earth, musing on how each one cut was like the "petite morte", the little death of each ejaculation/refractory of our insistent flowering rod, I suddenly was seized with a shock of pain, dropped my basket and ran to the house................

An asparagus beetle had mistaken my chubby for lunch and taken a nasty bite. Swelling up to never again repeated blimp-like proportions, my penis was in agony, wounded and bleeding, and I had broken into a sweat and shivers. Family consultation, doctor called to make a house call, me arrayed on the bed fully exposed, tended to with ice packs and family members all watching my penis swelling quite unnaturally and going bright red and purple and... so you see the bonding to the green... butt I digress...

Oh yes, so the Green Man is the human face of my avatar. And much thanks to friend rumel, designer/animator, who added the chakra sign and its pulsating rhythm, groomed the unruly locks of the man, and gave it all the appropriate silver light glow!

Green Man is contemplating a Golden Apple of the Sun, my favourite image for my prostate and its astounding alchemical powers. Linked closely are my testicles, navigators through the silvery moonlit seas of eros, Silver Apples of the Moon.

I love the William Butler Yeats poem Song of the Wandering Aengus and it captures the whole feeling and the aesthetic of this Aneros journey as I now and ever, through what used to be considered late middle age with dear mrs. a, have experienced it:

I went out to the hazel wood
Because a fire was in my head
And cut and peeled a hazel wand
And hooked a berry to a thread

And when white moths were on the wing
And moth-like stars were flickering out
I dropped a berry in a stream
And caught a little silver trout.

When I had laid it on the floor
I went to blow the fire a-flame
But something rustled on the floor
And someone called me by my name

It had become a glimmering girl
With apple blossoms in her hair
Who called me by my name and ran
And faded through the brightening air.

Though I am old with wandering
Through hollow lands and hilly lands
I will find out where she has gone
And kiss her lips and take her hands

And walk among long dappled grass
And pluck till time and times are done
The silver apples of the moon
The golden apples of the sun.

Hello Voyager, 🙂

A wonderful post, and quite relevant with all the new users with generic names.

My handle represents a reminder for me to open up and love in all aspects of my life. And my yin/yang avatar to me represents balance in all things. Both worthy goals or state of being to achieve.

Love_is

Voyager,

My user name is pretty simple, it is an amended anagram, derived from using my birth name first initials as the first, middle and last letters.

While the Aneros WIKI states

Super-O's come in all shapes and sizes. Some are small, some are large, some are single, some are multiple, some are centered in one area while others are in another. Some are particularly intense, while others are more subdued.

I liked a post by 'B Mayfield' wherein he said

Super-O's come in many colors and flavors.

When I first joined the Forum, avatars were not an available option for members. It was many months after I had experienced my first Super-O that avatars became available. I believe it was 'hlaser99' who posted the first animated avatar shortly after they were possible here. I then started thinking about what mine should be. For a short time I was using an animated graphic of the Super O Society logo which I created as my avatar but I decided against that as I wanted that particular graphic to represent much more than my identity.

I wanted an avatar that would symbolize the Super-O experience. I tried searching the web for appropriate images and/or animations but never found one I really liked so I decided to create my own. Obviously one can not graphically depict flavors but an energetic color animation was certainly possible. The image I created is the symbolic representation of a prostate in the throes of continuous orgasm, constantly experiencing a change in color (and by implication flavor), radiating its energy and power outward first to the body and thence to the world. Each pulse begins as a small "O" at the core and grows in strength as it radiates outward. Once it reaches the boundary it sends out small neural dendrons in an effort to make a wider, fuller connection to the world and the universal energy forces which surround all living things. I hope you enjoy viewing it as much as I enjoyed creating it.

It took almost six months of lurking the forum and experimenting with the Aneros before I stumbled upon an identity. Slow to relax, give-in, and master Aneros fundamentals I was distant from a 'Prostate induced dry Orgasm.' I sought and found a handful of mentors that I could understand. Several Forum members were brilliant beacons and one of those was “The Bishop.”

Without knowing whether “The Bishop” portrayed a religious official or a chess piece I enjoyed following in his footsteps and identified myself as his junior. Hopefully he'll opt to post in this excellent thread. (thanks Voyager for this superb idea !)

During the Korean conflict I volunteered to fly airplanes thereby avoiding conscription into the Infantry. (Several older fraternity brothers had returned from the front lines with reports of abundant mud and snow on that part of the Earth's surface !) My remote posting started my fascination with all things from the Far East. A g/f in Japan expanded my understanding of the consensual pleasures of the human body with occasional dalliances across the game table for Shogi Chess.

So, it was natural to adopt the name of a chess piece. “Rook” (aka Shogi Hisha) seemed appropriate since it represents a neophyte with military schooling. When Hisha reaches the far side of the chessboard it “promotes,” gaining the capability to fly. This form of “rook” is a Dragon King, known as Shogi Ryu. And I liken Ryu to a promotion along the Aneros journey – a more versatile rook.

My initial avatar was the Kanji for Shogi Hisha and I still employ that on the KSMO Forum. When I Super-Oed I adopted artwork depicting a man lying on the Earth beneath a Jacob's Ladder. This seems to express the intense visuals and sense of heightened spirituality I experience at the extremes of dry-Orgasm. At some time I'll probably redo the avatar to incorporate Hisha, Ryu and the Jacob's Ladder. Until then I'll delve into rumel's Tao of the Aneros.

During Breast Cancer awareness Month, I display a pink ribbon to celebrate Susan G. Komen's work. When I re-entered civilian life, I soon lost my first business partner to breast cancer, one of the few hundred males to be so afflicted each year. Early in my Aneros Journey my wife was diagnosed and is now in remission. Hormone antagonists reduce her sexual motivation and capacity and we feel fortunate that I have an Aneros practice to meet some of my orgasmic needs.

V;

One of my main activities aside from family and work is tennis, hence the avatar and handle.

Cheers,

Dave

Those of us who are expatriate English persons living in Australia are known as "Pommies" or, perhaps more commonly, "Pommie Bastrads". Even though I am now a naturalised Australian, I find it difficult to shed entirely my links with the old country.

Since the French for apple is 'pomme', I decided to use a photo of an apple as my avatar. As I have still not yet worked out how to convert that photo into an image suitable for use as an avatar here, I guess that makes me a "stupid, thick Pommie bastard"!

As you can see, the problem has been solved with help from the ever sage rumel, to whom I must offer thanks for the image that you now see to the left!

so my handle has a nice balance to it i can remember it

... and it's descriptive of one of my favorite activities

my avatar on the other hand is one of the few personal pics i have and by many standards obscene so i reserve it for friends

As usual Voyager, you hit a chord with your thread theme. It’s like we are all at an AnerosAnon meeting and telling each other a little about ourselves… Hi, I’m J4 and I’ve been an Aneros user for 2 years 7 months and 16 days… It’s been about 7 hours since I last inserted a Peridise…

What is in a name? In the truest sense of internet anonymity I wanted to choose something short and inconspicuous. The J is one of the letters in my name. The 4, though I am somewhat reluctant to admit it, is for a certain quarterback that used to play for the Green Bay Packers.

The simplicity of J4 always appealed to me though at one point I remember doing a google search on “J4” and it immediately found me in the Aneros forum.

While I joined the forum in almost the same week as both Voyager and Love_is, I was mortified that first week to see posting in the Aneros group a user who chose the name J18. J18 was a once and done poster, but I considered changing my name just about the same day I got it.

The avatar was easy. It’s a picture of one of the chambers of the LHC particle accelerator. And what are we here if we are not pioneers exploring the universe?

So sail on, Voyager and keep loving on, Love_is - as for me I’ll just keep JForeign.

artform,

Thanks for that. You may well recognise the glint!

I should have added that my favourite fruit by far is the apple and was it not the apple that the serpent used?
