Just curious, does anyone know of a good hair removal product that could possibly be found locally, (USA Indiana). I was thinking of using Nair for Men, but it says if it comes in contact with the eyes, ears, or genitals to wash with cold water immediately. I was thinking of using it despite the warning unless someone knows of any health risks in doing so. Comments, Questions, please feel free to respond.

I have used Nair in the nether regions with some success, but it can be quite irritating. I have had small burns from it from leaving it too long. The problem is that pubic hair is much thicker than arm hair or leg hair so more time is needed for it to work - then it burns you. I have used it several times and the burns heal pretty quickly, but there is some practice needed. Using a good old fashion bic is the best way to remove hair in those regions if desired. If you are using the Aneros, it does help (IMHO) to shave the perineum.

Just my 2 cents!

I Agree, Shaving you perineal area is better than using the creams. Less irritating.

Ouch!

The idea of considering chemical burns as a necessary consequence of a hair removal regime somewhat worries me! Although blade shaving is probably the simplest approach and easiest to achieve it does become high maintainence as you have to persist daily if you want to maintain a smooth feeling and appearance. Apart from wet shaving there are small electric/battery shavers on the market that promise a rash free result. They make claims that sound plausible but I have no experience of their use/success. A realistic alternative is some form of epilation. (Not to be confused with the term/process of 'depilation' which generally is understood to involve chemically based cream 'depilatory'.)
Epilation involves tweezing the hair from its root and is achieved in a number of ways. Waxing is one and is probably best undertaken by a professional. Another is the use of an electric epilator. Although both of these methods do offer moments of pain, one easily becomes accustomed to it and if you are worried by that it can be offset by taking painkillers in advance! This offers a result that is longer lasting and it can be sustained with the topical application of a hair inhibitor such as Ultra Hair Away that slows hair regrowth. Bear in mind that you need to take account of the cycle of hair growth and persist with this (inhibitor) to reach maximum efficacy. This can take up to eight weeks. The results (for me) are however worth it. It results in a soft,stubble-free smooth appearance and feeling that does not have to be 'maintained' daily.
A smooth perineum is I believe a prerequisite to allow the Aneros to function at its best!
I would advocate caution with depilatory creams close to extremely sensitive tissue!
Forever smooth ... and hairfree!

ON KEEPING IT CLEAN

I would strongly discourage anyone from using dipilatory creams/lotions in this area. I know, from personal experience that these product can cause burns and what's worse can make any contact in the area painful, (which puts the Aneros with its abutment tab completely out of the picture for a time).

My solution has always been the blade. I shave my penis, scrotum and perineum (just my preference) once every 4 to 5 days, and have never found the growth at the in-between times to be anything that hampered my enjoyment of the Aneros. Again, that's me, and my pattern of hair growth and personal level of comfort with it.

By the way, I should mention that I tend to use a new razor almost everytime that I shave. The reason is that years ago I found myself getting "jock itch" (a fungal infection) every now and then. I was able to track this down to the razor that I was using for shaving my pubic area. Normally I'd just leave the wet razor in the shower until its next use. I found that in some instances fungus was able to grow on it. At this point, to all I would say that if you intend to use a razor, rinse it off in hot water, let it dry completely and then keep it in a dry place. If you want to forgo the effort, just use a new razor.

With respect to the battery operated personal shavers, my impression is that they may be more gentle than the blade but produce similar results. Most come with instructions explaining that daily shaving is mandatory to keep a clean appearance and minimize in-grown hairs. Although I've never had a problem with in-grown hairs on my perineum they can be an issue in other places. When I appeared at the Erotica LA convention last year with the Aneros folks there was a booth there selling the item. The vendor even had a scantily clad adult actress who let me feel of her upper pubic area...mmm. Needless to say it was pretty soft. What makes this item more attractive is that one could use it daily without irritating ones skin (using a blade daily isn't comfortable for me). Perhaps I'll try it one of these days.

With respect to the epilators and wax, sounds painful to me. Such methods can also produce irritating results as well. I once had a lady friend that I gifted with a spa treatement that included pubic waxing. Naturally I encouraged her to go completely bare. That night we both got more than we bargained for when she was so red and irritated down there that she could hardly walk! That said, I've known those who've had no problem with it too.

Thanks Calton, I must check into this Ultra Hair product sounds like something that might be of benefit!

BFM -

As you observe BFM, waxing and epilation can provoke an angry response in those with sensitive skin and particularly those new to - or early on in - the use of these procedures. The effect does however generally subside within 24 hours. I use this regimen regularly and successfully (more than seven years) and now suffer no manifestation of irritation.
A 'clean' appearance is something that my partner and I both share and enjoy.

Calton,

Thanks for the clarification. I'm just curious, is this something that you perform yourself or does your partner help you with it? It would seem to be such an awkward thing to do; maneuvering a gadget down there. Any problems with in-growns from this? Do you use the epilator all over (penis, scrotum pubic/pelvic area and perineum)? Or just on you perineum?

BFM -

Generally I deal with this myself but at times my partner is involved. She however usually opts for and prefers waxing. I use it everywhere but the penis and scrotum is trickier as you have to ensure that in dealing with areas of loose skin (as in shaving) that it is held taught! So I tend to tweeze in addition. It all sounds rather a tedious procedure describing it here, but like all things that one does regularly, with an understanding of and counteracting the pitfalls, based on experience, it isn't! If ingrows look likely I use a product called 'Ingrow go' (there's original!). It is designed to counteract ingrown hairs, and razor bumps and burns. It is marketed by an Australian company - Skin Doctors. (see www.skindoctors.com au)
All of this is detail is a bit off-topic regarding the Aneros but as I related previously the use of the hair inhibitor makes the hair finer and slows the regrowth down over a period of about eight weeks so after that you only have to apply it about once a week for maintenace of the treated area. 'Ultra Hair Away' is marketed by a Canadian company, Ubermed. Other products are available but their (Ubermed) claims seem to be well backed by science and offer practical results. The secret is that with any 'tweezing' procedure the hair is removed at its root, this then enables the inhibitor to enter the follicle more easily. Hey! It works for me - what more can I say!

Good wishes to you, BFM.

P.S. BFM - I imagine that you are describing the Body Bare dry shaver. It appears to feature large (and apparently very effectively) in the context you describe! I might be moved to acquire one!

I wax it all myself (completely). It's not as painful as you think. The first time is hardest, since the hair is rooted in the thickest. It gets easier the second time because the hair is finer. Trim the hair (or wait until it grows out) so that it is between 1/4" or 1/2" for best results.

Here is the best product I have used:

http://www.ballbeauty.com/gigi_brazilian_wax.htm

Start with the microwave version. If you get into it, you might want to get a warmer and the larger canister, as it makes it much easier since you don't have to reheat it.

Oral sex has a much better sensation without the hair, and the smoothness feels awesome. To relate it to the Aneros, it makes it better because there is no hair in the way.

If anyone has any questions, I will reply, as I've been doing it myself for about 2 years. Here are instructions to get anyone curious started:

Hi Folks,

2 days ago I, once again, used Nair for Men to remove hair "down there". I have done this since I found the product, but used the regular Nair before I found it.

It is absolutely true about the potential for irratation, and I have had my share of it ............... but I have discovered that there are certain areas that are easily irratated, and those that are not.

Also 4 - 6 minutes is the maximum time you leave the product on.

Being specefic about the areas to avoid:

1. The skin on the inner most part of the thigh .... where your balls press against it.

2. The bottom of the ball sack.

Areas that I have never had a problem with:

1. The entire Penis

2. The entire area between my ball sack and my anus .... absolutely no problem ever with the infamous "ridge" running between them. I apply about 2 finger widths doing this .... not a "hand full"

3. My entire butt. Although I usually do not do this. It is a waste of the expensive Nair .... plus I can easily shave this area without nicking myself.

I only have to clean these areas about once per month and am satisfied with the method.

Matt

I used the Nair today, and it came out as a nice result. There was some slight iritation on the bottom of the ballsack although it wasnt unsuspected. The irritation subsides within an hour or two which sounds faster than the waxing to me. Be sure to use a good amount of it though if you plan to try it. Now that the hair is gone in all those areas I bought a regular electric razor like youd use on the face with 3 round razors on it. I plan to shave it every few days, and using an electric razor means no more shaving cream or anything is needed down there. I used the regular Nair with aloe, for 12 minutes although the bottle recommends no more than 10. Also it helps to have some neosporin around with pain relief that promotes fast healing, which is how I assume I got over the "chemical Burns" soo fast. Just be sure if you do this to wipe the area a few times over with a dampened wash cloth, do not rinse the area as recommended or else you will have alot more pain than is needed, I sampled just a few drops of water on the area immediately after use and it burned intensely. Pat it dry as recommended after you rub off the hair and lotion and youre done. A clean smooth "area" without alot of hastle.
