If prostate massage is good for a man's health, do gay men have better prostate health? ❓

Well surely that depends on how much the gay men practice prostate massage...

I think that Fuzzy nailed it. The title of this thread and the question posted may speak to some of the assumptions that straight guys make about gay people. Namely that they are all into anal play and that all of it involves vigorous prostate stimulation. As I commented earlier http://www.aneros.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=19737#19737 , there are some gay men who are not into anal sex. It should also be added that with those who are, one can't assume that all of them are into focused prostate stimulation either. It should be remembered that unless some maneuvering takes place, a penis or a conventional dildo engages the prostate only tangentially.

Although there have been some recent studies that have concluded some link between number of ejaculations per week and lower rates of prostate cancer, I am unaware of any that look at this strictly on the basis of sexual persuasion. (if someone has any specifics, please post them).

Please don't take this comment the wrong way, but the gay population has a much worse general level of health than the general population. I am not a doctor, but I have to read medical textbooks for work. I have read that incidence of cancer to the anus and rectum is much much higher among the gay population than among heterosexuals. Any conclusions drawn from statistics comparing the straight population with the gay population would also have to allow for higher venereal disease. And I think you have to make a distinction between responsible gays who practice safe sex exclusively, and those, who for whatever reason, go out of their way to engage in riskier practices. So the question as to whether gay men have less prostate disease than straight would really not lead to any intelligent conclusions without going into a lot of other factors. I hope I am making myself clear here.

Just to clarify my previous post, indeed there are a variety of factors that have ramifications upon the health in general and "prostate health" more specifically of any given population of men. That said, I assumed that the author of this thread was seeking to establish a link between prostate massage and prostate health, with the presumption that gay men engage in more prostate massage and therefore have healthier prostates to show for it.

While I am a believer in the concept of prostate massage promoting prostate health, I think that it would require some detailed research in order to make a case for gay men having healthier prostates than straight men . To produce any kind of meaningful data one would have to find a large group of gay men who were into prostate massage. (That is, one could not simply assume that there was prostate massage taking place on the basis of a person being gay.) Following that, other issues effecting prostate health would have to be considered.

While I am aware of some studies that have reported higher rates of anal and rectal cancer in gay populations (ostensibly owing to the prevalence and transmission of HPV), I am uncomfortable with the idea of making generalizations that associates all gay people with poor health. I do agree with Hula that there are mitigating factors to consider.

I think the short answer here is that your sexuality alone has no real bearing on your prostate health.
Of much more relevance to prostate health are factors such as prostate massage, aneros use, HPV, family history of prostate problems and so on.

What where the conclusions of the study? Just curious.

So what causes the anal cancer and stuff? The STDs? I assume that there is no cancer-causing attributes to prostate massage in itself (finger, Aneros...)?

So gays into prostate massage, do they have healthier prostates than heterosexuals?

In nutshell, there were two studies, one conducted through Harvard University back in the early 90's and the other more recently in Australia which appear to indicate that those who ejaculate more frequently have a decreased risk of developing prostate cancer (giving a whole new emphasis to the old adage use it or lose it! )

This brings up a concern that I've had from the beginning. If increased frequency of ejaculation decreases the incidence of prostate cancer (which would be the best scenario...right?), how does prostate massage in which there is no release of prostatic fluid affect the incidence of prostate cancer? In other words, would you be better off ejaculating at the end of every session rather than retaining the fluid in the prostate? (To me, its like stoking a fire with the aneros and then not letting off any of the generated steam.)

Guys,
There are so many factors that seem to have an influence on one’s proclivity to getting cancer that isolating one segment of the population based upon their sexual orientation is rather meaningless.

There is no doubt that one’s sexual practices can have significant health ramifications, this applies to the general population (men and women, be they straight, gay or bi) as a whole. Practicing safe sex will go a long way in preventing harmful health effects.

With regard to prostate cancer, there have been studies which show statistically some influencing factors. Among these factors are frequency of ejaculation, diet, exposure to carcinogens and your own DNA. The Australian study showed the frequency of ejaculation beneficial effect decreased markedly by age group. I suspect that age and other environmental factors also decrease this benefit over time.
The genetic component may be the most influential when you equalize all the other factors. Asian men have the lowest rates of prostate cancer; it is in their DNA to be less susceptible. IMHO, getting to know your own family health history is much more likely to reveal the health issues that will affect you than looking at studies of the general population.
The medical studies are great sources of information on how to live healthier lives and avoid as many negative factors as we can but ultimately your genes are the final determinant.

First of all, God does not hate gay men. He loves everyone, that is why he sent Jesus to die for you and me. People have it all wrong. God hates sin, not people!!!!!!! When people who call themselves "Christians" strike out and say that they hate gay people then they are not "Christians". Why? because God says to love your neighbor as yourself. If you hate your neighbor then you don't love God.

I have a friend of mine who is gay and we talk. I do not agree with his lifestyle but that is his choice and he understands my views also. That doesn't mean that we can't be friends!!!! God tells us to love the person and hate the sin, not people!!!!!
